Developing economies often struggle with limited resources and personnel, making market validation for startups a challenge. Existing validation methods can be costly and complicated, requiring significant time and resources. This study aimed to address these challenges by developing a web-based market validation tool for startups. Results showed that the tool was well received by respondents, with the majority finding it easy to use and navigate. Additionally, respondents rated the tool as highly valuable for their startup process. This study highlights the potential benefits of web-based market validation tools for startups in developing economies, offering a cost-effective and accessible solution. © 2023 The Authors. Accurate water level forecasting in a watershed as an early warning system is of great importance especially in flood prone areas. This could help the disaster management agencies in alerting the people with enough time as well as have a real time control of hydraulic structures to mitigate flood effects. This paper presents a strategy for days-ahead water level forecasting of a watershed that utilizes Support Vector Regression Machine (SVRM). Data preparation was conducted in order to solve anomalies in terms of the 11.52% missing data and 0.023% time inconsistences attributed primarily from the Water Level Monitoring Stations (WLMS) that serves as the sensor that captures the watershed data. Min-Max scaling method was then used in data transformation so that the dataset can be implemented by a SVRM model that uses the t – 12, t − 24, t − 72, t − 168 Architecture with a Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel having C = 115, Ε = 0.01 and γ = 0.001 as SVRM parameters. Through proper data preparation and SVRM implementation, the results which compared the actual and the forecasted water level shows a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 2.186 and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.00601. This study clearly suggests that SVRM has the potential to be a viable days-ahead water level forecasting model for a watershed. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Understanding and predicting water level rise is crucial for effective water resource management, flood control, disaster risk reduction, and adaptation to climate change. This study utilize the use of Support Vector Regression Machine (SVRM) models in predicting the water level of Mandulog River in the Philippines. To evaluate its predictive capability, two data architectures, various kernels, and parameters were examined to find the optimal configuration. Multiple kernels were compared for accurate pattern discovery, and parameter selection was performed to enhance predictive accuracy. The SVRM models achieved the lowest Mean Average Percentage Error (MAPE) of 2.186%, Root-Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of 0.00601 during the dry season, and MAPE of 2.226% and RMSE of 0.00602 during the rainy season. Both models were deemed suitable for watershed level forecasting. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

The progress of Information Retrieval Systems (IRS) research has been influenced by available technologies. With the rapid development of technologies associated with the IRS, there is a need to examine the extant literature related to its advancement. This study reviewed the literature on the IRS, particularly on the methods and gaps in developing the IRS. Specifically, it aimed to synthesize IRS methods implementation, including frameworks and recommendations for future studies from articles ranging from 1997 to 2022 using a methodological review. The methodological review followed the 2020 Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and only considered indexed articles from Scopus and Web of Science (WoS). The publications showed momentum in 2018 onwards. The authors working in IRS were mainly from China, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom. Besides the IRS, the recent leading theme is its application in the medical field. However, it should be noted that most articles mentioned that the IRS’s applications cut across other areas, including business and social sciences. Regarding the query presentation and indexing methodology, though the Vector Space was the most frequently used method, the probabilistic approach was the most widely used method for different applications. Meanwhile, for the matching process, the leading techniques were ranking-based, semantic approach, and ontology-based. For future works, researchers can work on checking assumptions, model or method accuracy, and parameter tuning for enhancement of IRS. Integrating user information, domain knowledge, rich thesauri, and other contextual information was strongly recommended by existing research. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Digital otoscopes are medical devices used to examine the ear and used by physicians in primary and special care settings. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of literature of digital otoscope adoption in tele-otology and determine the factors that influenced its adoption. Different literature on digital otoscope adoption in tele-otology were identified using Google Scholar in compliance with the guidelines of PRISMA 2020. Out of 151 journals in the literature bank only 21 journals have qualified. These studies were analysed and 9 major factors for the adoption of digital otoscopes in tele-otology were identified. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Clinical laboratories have evolved with technological advancements through integrating various subsystems into Health Information Systems (HIS), particularly the Laboratory Information System (LIS). The LIS automates processes, manages results, and interfaces with healthcare information sources. Challenges include workflow inefficiencies and data interpretation issues. Despite increased data accessibility, managing clinical data across systems remains complex. Integrating laboratory machines into LIS is essential for optimizing healthcare delivery, requiring effective integration technologies. This study aims to synthesize the existing empirical studies on the utilization of integration technologies for Software-to-Software (S2S) communication in automating clinical laboratory processes. This study systematically examined integration technologies in LIS using PubMed and following PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The three-phase methodology included a scoping analysis, methodological analysis, and a gap analysis, focusing on S2S communication, interoperability frameworks, data standards, communication protocols, and challenges in LIS integration technologies. Analysis of 28 sample studies revealed a complex landscape in LIS integration shaped by end-users, care providers, and researchers. Clinical laboratories prioritize integration, focusing on patient data and sustainability. Standards like HL7 and FHIR ensure interoperability. Eleven methodologies highlight system development in Health Information Systems (HIS). Interoperability is a common objective, with 22 out of 28 studies achieving success. Challenges include limited generalizability, poor validation, and post-implementation modifications. Issues like security, data incompatibility, and evolving standards persist. © 2024 The Authors

Access control solutions in electronic health record systems: A systematic review

Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are electronically-stored patient medical histories shared among healthcare institutions. Recent studies show that EHRs experience healthcare data protection challenges, and the difficulty lies in providing access to the right individuals at the appropriate time and place. This study synthesizes and analyzes existing literature on access control solutions in EHRs through a systematic literature review. Using the 2020 PRISMA guidelines, a total of 20 qualified journal articles were examined and each proposed mechanism was grouped according to the four categories of access control: Identification, Authentication, Authorization, and Accountability (IAAA). Our findings reveal an interconnection between these categories, with the most popular authorization mechanism being Attribute-based Access Control (ABAC). Methodologies analyzed include a credential system (12 studies), authentication (10 studies), and accountability (2 studies);these most commonly used unique IDs, digital signatures and access control logs respectively. Prominent research gaps found in the sample literature are methodology implementation and standards compliance limitations, of which the former includes the lack of multi-factor authentication, emergency access, patient consent, and accountability. From these findings we infer that further research is needed to protect EHRs from these information security threats. © 2024 The Authors
