Consider a set of sensors estimating the state of a process in which only one of these sensors can operate at each time-step due to constraints on the overall system. The problem addressed here is to choose which sensor should operate at each time-step to minimize a function of the error covariance of the state estimation at each time-step. Previously, the authors developed tractable algorithms to solve for the optimal and suboptimal sensor schedule. The suboptimal algorithm trades off the quality of the solution and the complexity of the problem through a tuning parameter. As the tuning parameter is increased the complexity of the problem significantly decreases but the overall affect on the quality of the solution has not been completely characterized as of yet. This work concentrates on developing an upper bound on the distance from the optimal solution through two different approaches. The first approach exploits the peak estimation error, and the second method decomposes the covariance into two factors to linearly propagate the effects of perturbations. Numerical simulations are also performed to demonstrate the performance of the suboptimal algorithm for various tuning parameters.

This work deal with a possibilities of using an aJ-80 embedded JAVA processor in real usage. Microprocessor aJ-80 join together the advantages of programming in a higher programming language (as Java) and the system of one-chip controlling components (ATMEL, MICROCHIP, PIC, MOTOROLA etc.). Tested platform is suitable for Real Time - RT. We found several problems suitable for testing of the processor aJ-80 and its RT features to evaluate test platform. Based on the evaluation, the performance of the hardware program of the processor aJ-80 is very effective. In this respect, the product is recommended to use in many hard RT areas.

Ubiquitous Computing (UbiCom) is idea which describe an information and communication technology systems which enable information and their tasks to support intelligent human computer interface, which is everywhere to use and also the technology background is invisible to user. Paper deal with a using of UbiCom principles to develop a mobile user adaptive system framework based on Predictive Data Push Technology (PDPT) Framework and Biotelemetrical Monitoring System (BMS) as two joined parts of complex User Adaptive System (UAS) framework. Main focus is in contribution of UAS to user or patient and his life quality.

Use of various wireless communications network standards or GPS for positioning is well known from countless previously published research articles. Joining of positioning principles with data artefacts prebuffering can provide a many advantages in using of mobile devices as a clients of remote server on-line systems. On of the key aspects can be seen in rapid increasing of data throughput of download connection (downlink). The user requested data artefact can be preloaded to mobile database cache (SQL Server CE), from where it is accessible through a user software application. Accessing time of artefacts from mobile cache (physically located on SD Card) is fraction in compare to a classical on-line accessing the data artefact from server through a web services.

The problem we would like to discuss and solve is based on a remote controlling of created packages containing predefined components with a predefined numbers of these components. In principle the problem acts as a check out control problem. By the help of mobile device with integrated bar code scanner an application for such mobile device can be developed as a remote client of server, which contains a database with predefined properties, numbers of packages, etc. A web services and mobile client application was created using a Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.

A huge number of components for development tool of Microsoft Visual Studio is possible to find on internet. They are however only extensive, or graphically modified standard components that belongs to standard Visual Studio. Components development for industrial using is made by specialized firms. Such components are considerably price expensive. Aim of this project is to form at least small parts of components for HMI (Human Machine interface) on a basis of PDA with Windows Mobile with a usage of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, eventually of other needed Open Source libraries.

The paper describes a problem of prebuffering on wireless connected mobile devices through a mobile database (Mobile SQL Server CE) as a solution for low throughput on wireless connection of mobile devices. As a second important area the optimal data artifact determination is described with a compare of two selected artifact size. The prebuffering control is based on wireless localization and positioning inside the buildings. Also the proposed technique is possible to adapt using others wireless communication networks or GPS positioning.

The aim of this project is stress testing of the system for data management and planning of the operations developed for home care agencies which has to be upgrading of the current system based on the older database of Microsoft Access product. The part of the system is a mobile application that allows employees to edit the records of patients directly in the terrain. The whole system, including applications developed for the stress testing is based on Microsoft technology .NET. Our Stress Testing application allows testing a selected problem areas to find any limitations before the tested developing solution will be set up at customer. By the help of our test application, the hardware solution for the server was selected on the base of selected home care agency needs.

Accurate and effective parameter identification is an important engineering task in high performance control system design. One emerging approach to effectively identify such nonlinear or dynamic unknown parameters is to use Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Linear Permanent Magnet (LPM) motor is a high performance actuator employed in many applications that require direct linear motion without mechanical transmission for high acceleration and accurate positioning. Therefore, accurate motor parameters are necessary to effectively control the LPM motors. This paper proposes a simple PSO based method with chirp inputs to identify the LPM motor's parameters. The simulations and experiments are conducted to verify the results and determine the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Clouds enable novel execution modes often supported by advanced capabilities such as autonomic schedulers. These capabilities are predicated upon an accurate estimation and calculation of runtimes on a given infrastructure. Using a well understood high-performance computing workload, we find strong fluctuations from the mean performance on EC2 and Eucalyptus-based cloud systems. Our analysis eliminates variations in IO and computational times as possible causes, we find that variations in communication times account for the bulk of the experiment-to-experiment fluctuations of the performance.
