As the interest of location based-service and ubiquitous environment is proliferated, the development of technologies to determine mobile station location indoors and outdoors is basically demanded for providing various services based on user's location. Representatively, GPS(Global Positioning System) is the most well-known positioning system, but actually isn't an adequate system indoors because of the weakness of positioning signals, NLOS(Non-line of sight) and multipath. Therefore, recently in order to replace it, new technologies using WLAN have been presented. In the thesis, as estimating NLOS errors between mobile station and access points using reference points, a triangulation positioning method based on signal strength will be proposed. Also, indoor positioning experiment results will be shown.

We state results on the existence of smooth Lyapunov functions for hybrid systems whose solutions satisfy a class-KLL estimate with respect to two measures. The class-KLL estimate, a natural extension of class-KL estimate, is in terms of the elapsed time and the number of jumps that have occurred. The main result is that a smooth Lyapunov function exists if and only if the class-KLL estimate is robust. In turn, sufficient conditions for robustness are given. Special cases include systems with compact attractors. Most of the results parallel, and unify, what has been developed previously for differential inclusions and difference inclusions.

Motivated by questions in stability theory for hybrid dynamical systems, we establish some fundamental properties of the set of solutions to such systems. Using the notion of a hybrid time domain and general results on set and graphical convergence, we establish under weak regularity and local boundedness assumptions that the set of solutions is sequentially compact and "upper semicontinuous" with respect to initial conditions and system perturbations. The latter means that each solution to the system under perturbations is close to some solution of the unperturbed system on a compact hybrid time domain. The general facts are then used to establish several results for the behavior of hybrid systems that have asymptotically stable compact sets. For example, it is shown that the basin of attraction for a compact attractor is (relatively) open, the attractivity is uniform from compact subsets of the basin of attraction, and asymptotic stability is robust with respect to small perturbations.

The accurate classification of protein structure is critical and essential for protein function determination in Bioinformatics and Proteomics. A reasonably high rate of prediction accuracy for protein structure classification has been achieved recently in coarse-grained protein class assignment according to their primary amino acid sequences, such as classifying proteins into four classes in SCOP. However, it is still quite a challenge for fine-grained protein fold assignment, especially when the number of possible folding patterns as those defined in SCOP is large. In our previous work, hierarchical learning architecture (HLA) neural networks have been used to differentiate proteins according to their classes and folding patterns. A better prediction accuracy rate for 27 folding categories was 65.5% which improves previous results by Ding and Dubchak with 56.5% prediction accuracy rate. The success of the protein structure classification depends heavily on the computational methods used and the features selected. Here combinatorial fusion analysis (CFA) techniques are used to facilitate feature selection and combination for improving prediction accuracy rate of protein structure classification. The resulting classification has an overall prediction accuracy rate of 87.8% for coarse-grained 4 classes and 70.9% for fine-grained 27 folding categories by applying the concept of CFA to our previous work using neural network with the HLA framework. These results are significantly higher than others and our previous work. They further demonstrate that the CFA techniques can greatly enhance the machine learning method (such as NN in the paper) in the protein structure prediction problem.
