Anomaly detection is essential to ensure the safety of industrial processes. This paper presents an anomaly detection approach based on the probability density estimation and principle of justifiable granularity. First, time series data are transformed into a two-dimensional information granule by the principle of justifiable granularity. Then, the test statistic is constructed, and the probability density and cumulative distribution functions of the test statistic are calculated. Next, the confidence level determines the test threshold. Finally, the time series data of a key parameter in the sintering process is used as a case study. The experimental result demonstrates that the proposed approach can detect abnormal time series data effectively, providing an accurate and effective solution for detecting time series anomalies in industrial processes.

In recent years, the number of car accidents has been gradually increasing. A major factor in this increase is the drowsiness of drivers. There are many image recognition research studies on drowsiness detection but tend to neglect the case of low-light conditions. This paper focuses on detecting drowsy drivers in low-light conditions. In this paper, a behavioralbased drowsy driver detection system (DDDS) was proposed. The proposed DDDS applies a preprocessing algorithm that improves illumination and then focuses on detecting the driver’s face and eyes to calculate eye blink duration. A deep neural network model was used for facial recognition, and Haar Cascade classifiers were used for eyes detection. Every single eye was based to a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model to predict its state as either ‘‘Open’’ or ‘‘Closed’’. The proposed CNN was developed using a dataset of 1452 samples and gave an accuracy of 97.92% on the testing dataset, 15% of the 1452 samples. Different case scenarios in poor light conditions were implemented to evaluate the proposed DDDS. The system was able to identify the state of the driver even in harsh and severe poor light conditions.

Due to the inherent non-stationarity and individual differences present in electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, developing a generalizable model that performs well on new subjects is challenging in EEG-based emotion recognition. Most existing domain adaptation (DA) methods typically mitigate these discrepancies by aligning the marginal distributions of domain feature representations. However, when there is a significant difference in the class-conditional distribution between domain features and labels, the domain-invariant features learned by aligning marginal distributions may have limited discriminative ability for unlabeled target instances or even prove counterproductive. To address this issue, we propose a Neighborhood Semantic Aware Learning-based Dynamic Graph Attention Convolution (NSAL-DGAT) approach that learns target semantic information by considering the inter-domain semantic topological structure, thereby improving classifier adaptation for target instances. Specifically, the proposed NSAL framework is designed to capitalize on the insight that after domain feature alignment, some target samples and their neighboring source samples exhibit similar semantics. By leveraging the neighborhood topological structure, we extract and incorporate semantic target features to train a more transferable classifier. Besides, we implement an entropy weighting mechanism to emphasize representative target semantic information, encouraging target instances to prioritize high-confidence individuals within the source neighborhood. We have conducted extensive experiments on the public SEED dataset and our collected the Hearing-Impaired EEG Dataset (HIED). The experimental results underscore the efficacy of our proposed NSAL-DGAT approach, showcasing state-of-the-art accuracy in subject-dependent as well as subject-independent scenarios. This work presents an innovative learning-based approach to tackle the tracking control problem of Euler-Lagrange multi-agent systems with partially unknown dynamics operating under switching communication topologies. The approach leverages a correlation-aware cooperative al-gorithm framework built upon Gaussian process regression, which adeptly captures inter-agent correlations for uncertainty predictions. A standout feature is its exceptional efficiency in deriving the aggregation weights achieved by circumventing the computationally intensive posterior variance calculations. Through Lyapunov stability analysis, the distributed control law ensures bounded tracking errors with high probability. Simulation experiments validate the protocol's efficacy in effectively managing complex scenarios, establishing it as a promising solution for robust tracking control in multi-agent systems characterized by uncertain dynamics and dynamic communication structures.

This paper investigates a partial-information pursuit evasion game in which the Pursuer has a limited-range sensor to detect the Evader. Given a fixed final time, we derive the optimal evasion strategy for the Evader to maximize its distance from the pursuer at the end. Our analysis reveals that in certain parametric regimes, the optimal Evasion strategy involves a ‘risky’ maneuver, where the Evader's trajectory comes extremely close to the pursuer's sensing boundary before moving behind the Pursuer. Additionally, we explore a special case in which the Pursuer can choose the final time. In this scenario, we determine a (Nash) equilibrium pair for both the final time and the evasion strategy.

Sleep quality is critical for human well-being. Lack of sleep and poor sleep quality impair daily cognitive functions and health. While stress has been recognized as a detrimental factor on sleep quality, the relationship between pre-sleep stress level, resting EEG and subsequent sleep structure remains to be explored. This study presents a novel approach that evaluates pre-sleep stress levels using a 2-channel EEG to predict slow-wave sleep (SWS) deficiency. We recorded forehead EEG immediately before sleep onset, then utilized power spectra and entropy analysis to extract stress-related neurological features, including beta/delta correlation, alpha asymmetry, fuzzy entropy (FuzzEn), and spectral entropy (SpEn). We found that individuals with SWS deficiency exhibited signs of stress, such as a robust beta/delta correlation, higher alpha asymmetry, and increased FuzzEn. Conversely, individuals with ample SWS displayed weak beta/delta correlation and reduced FuzzEn in EEG recordings. Finally, we tested the robustness of the selected neuro markers with two supervised learning models and found that the selected markers predict SWS deficiency with an accuracy above 70%. Our study demonstrated that stress-related neurological markers derived from pre-sleep EEG can effectively predict SWS deficiency. The proposed method can be integrated with a portable EEG device and sleep-improving interventions to develop a personalized sleep-improvement solution.

Practicing mindfulness, focusing attention on the internal and external experiences occurring in the present moment with open and nonjudgement stance, can lead to the development of emotional regulation skills. Yet, the effective connectivity of brain regions during mindfulness has been largely unexplored. Studies have shown that mindfulness practice promotes functional connectivity in practitioners, potentially due to improved emotional regulation abilities and increased connectivity in the lateral prefrontal areas. To examine the changes in effective connectivity due to mindfulness training, we analyzed electroencephalogram (EEG) signals taken before and after mindfulness training, focusing on training-related effective connectivity changes in the frontal area. The mindfulness training group participated in an 8-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program. The control group did not take part. Regardless of the specific mindfulness practice used, low-gamma band effective connectivity increased globally after the mindfulness training. High-beta band effective connectivity increased globally only during Breathing. Moreover, relatively higher outgoing effective connectivity strength was seen during Resting and Breathing and Body-scan. By analyzing the changes in outgoing and incoming connectivity edges, both F7 and F8 exhibited strong parietal connectivity during Resting and Breathing. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the changes in effective connectivity of the right lateral prefrontal area predicted mindfulness and emotional regulation abilities. These results partially support the theory that the lateral prefrontal areas have top-down modulatory control, as these areas have high outflow effective connectivity, implying that mindfulness training cultivates better emotional regulation. © 2023 Wiley Periodicals LLC.

This study proposes an anti-slip control system for electric trains based on the fuzzy logic theory, which prevents the wheels from slipping during the acceleration and simultaneously tracks the desired speed profile. To improve the control performance, the train longitudinal velocity and the slip ratio are estimated. By using a field-oriented control (FOC), the angular speed of the traction motor is controlled. The fuzzy control system determines the desired angular speed of the traction motor as the reference input of FOC to obtain the desired slip ratio and track the desired speed profile. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the control system in various wheel–rail surface conditions based on the real parameters of ER24PC locomotive. © 2020 Chinese Automatic control Society and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd

Erasable itemset mining has been a valuable mining problem for manufacturers. It can extract less profitable materials from a product dataset and provide managers with good decision-making and a trade-off between cost and profit. However, the traditional erasable itemset mining methods seldom consider the time factor. For time-sensitive industries such as agro-processors, the time range is important in determining which materials are less profitable. Hong et al. first proposed the concept of temporal erasable itemset mining and seven lifespan options. They also proposed a unified temporal erasable (UTE) mining algorithm for getting incomplete temporal erasable itemsets. Howerever, the UTE algorithm does not satisfy the property of downward closure. In this work, we propose an improved algorithm to improve the performance of the UTE algorithm based on a lower-bound strategy and satisfying the property of downward closure. The proposed algorithm uses a hash table to store information that will be reused during the mining process to avoid scanning a dataset multiple times. The designed lower-bound strategy can preserve the downward closure property, narrowing the search space of candidate itemsets. In numerical experiments, we compare the performance using several metrics between the proposed method and the previous work. From the results of experiments, our proposed method outperforms the existing method on various metrics, such as execution time and the number of candidate erasable itemsets.

High-utility-itemset mining, extended from frequent-itemset mining, considers external utilities of items in quantitative databases to obtain the itemsets with high utility. To easily understand those patterns with high utility values, fuzzy utility mining adopts fuzzy sets to increase the readability of the derived utility itemsets. However, real-world databases are usually dynamic. New transactions may be intermittently added, and the corresponding mined patterns must be updated to keep correct knowledge. In this paper, we propose an incremental method based on our previously proposed batch-processing fuzzy utility tree-based mining algorithm. The proposed approach adopts the fast-update (FUP) strategy. It considers newly coming data to readjust the head table and the tree structure, which generate desired itemsets in two phases. The experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithm outperforms the tree-based batch mining method.
