The main point of this paper is to present a time domain strategy for drug dosage to treat psychiatric disorders. A time domain model of emotion is obtained from an extension of a recently developed fractional nonlinear dynamic model of happiness. First, the Fractional Optimal control law for incommensurate multi state systems is obtained. It will be then applied as an optimal drug administration procedure in the line of psychiatric disorders treatment. Results of this paper show that optimal control scheme is a proper approach to face the difficulties of analysis and control the incommensurate systems. It can be also clearly seen from the simulation results that this approach is very effective in the case that control methods are used as treatment techniques.

This paper describes a theoretical framework for the design of controllers to satisfy probabilistic safety specifications for partially observable discrete time stochastic hybrid systems. We formulate the problem as a partial information stochastic optimal control problem, in which the objective is to maximize the probability that the state trajectory remains within a given safe set in the hybrid state space, using observations of the history of inputs and outputs. It is shown that this optimal control problem, which has a multiplicative payoff structure, is equivalent to a terminal payoff problem when the state space is augmented with a binary random variable capturing the safety of past state evolution. This allows us to derive a sufficient statistic for the probabilistic safety problem as a set of Bayesian filtering equations updating a conditional distribution on the augmented state space, as well as an abstract dynamic programming algorithm for computing the maximal probability of safety and an optimal control policy.

Investigation of the Impact of the Upstream Induction Zone on LIDAR Measurement Accuracy for Wind Turbine control Applications using Large-Eddy Simulation

Several sources of error exist in lidar measurements for feedforward control of wind turbines including the ability to detect only radial velocities, spatial averaging, and wind evolution. This paper investigates another potential source of error: the upstream induction zone. The induction zone can directly affect lidar measurements and presents an opportunity for further decorrelation between upstream wind and the wind that interacts with the rotor. The impact of the induction zone is investigated using the combined CFD and aeroelastic code SOWFA. Lidar measurements are simulated upstream of a 5 MW turbine rotor and the true wind disturbances are found using a wind speed estimator and turbine outputs. Lidar performance in the absence of an induction zone is determined by simulating lidar measurements and the turbine response using the aeroelastic code FAST with wind inputs taken far upstream of the original turbine location in the SOWFA wind field. Results indicate that while measurement quality strongly depends on the amount of wind evolution, the induction zone has little effect. However, the optimal lidar preview distance and circular scan radius change slightly due to the presence of the induction zone.

In this paper, we derive an inner bound for two-user state-dependent multiple-access relay channel (MARC) via decode and forward strategy (DF) in which the states of channel are known non-causally at the relay. The inner bound is obtained by using a combination of binning scheme and codeword splitting. Codeword splitting at the relay is applied to generating two codebooks, one for utilizing a joint codebook between the relay and the transmitters and another for utilizing the channel state information. Furthermore, we obtain an outer bound for this model. Actually, our work is a generalization of Zaidi et al. work on the relay channel with informed relay to the MARC.

In this paper, the design and implementation of a novel passive safe joint is reported. This safe joint is designed for applications, such as an air hockey playing robot playing against a human, in which the force applied by the linkage should be kept below a certain threshold. The proposed mechanism benefits from the compliance of two ramps controlled by the nonlinear behavior of a spring. The passivity of the design, the small footprint, the low cost of production, and the ability to rotate 360 degrees are the main advantages of this design. The mechanism has been designed, evaluated, implemented and tested showing its effectiveness. Finally it has been incorporated in an air hockey robot showing its capability in action.

In this study, a developed automatic sleep stage classification system with a portable EEG recording device, (Mindo-4s) is implemented by JAVA-based sleep graphical user interface (GUI) in android platform. First, the parameters of the developed sleep stage classification system, including extracting effective sleep features and a hierarchical classification structure consisting of preliminary wake detection rule, adaptive adjustment scheme, and support vector machine, were trained by our existing sleep database, which collected using polysomnogram (PSG), in MATLAB program. Finally, this classification system would be reedited by JAVA language, and the corresponding JAVA-based sleep GUI software was working in android platform and Mindo-4s. The connection between JAVA-based sleep GUI software and the portable Mindo-4s was through Bluetooth communication. The performance of this JAVA-based sleep GUI can reach 72.43% average accuracy comparing to the result from manual scoring. This JAVA-based sleep GUI can on-line display, record and analyze the forehead EEG signals simultaneously. After sleep, the user can received a complete sleep report, including sleep efficiency, sleep stage distribution, from JAVA-based sleep GUI. Thus, this system can provide a preliminary result in sleep quality estimation, and help the sleep doctor to decide someone needs to have a complete PSG testing in hospital. Using this system is more convenient for long-term and home-based daily caring than traditional PSG measurement. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

Many systems repeat the same operation over and over again on a finite duration. Repetitive processes have this characteristic where repeated sweeps, termed passes, are made over the finite pass length and when each is complete the process resets to the starting location and the next pass begins. The distinguishing feature of these processes is that the output, or pass profile, produced on each pass explicitly contributes to the dynamics of the next one and can result in oscillations that increase in amplitude from pass-to-pass. For applications, it is necessary to have a stability theory on which to base control law design for stabilization and performance. This paper gives a reflective overview of the stability theory for linear repetitive processes with particular attention to the forms of stability possible, their characterizations, and suitability for control law design. A particular feature is that the strongest form of stability for these processes can, especially for applications, lead to difficulties in control law design for stability and performance. One alternative in such cases is also considered.

Identifying the structure and arrangement of the teeth is one of the dentists' requirements for performing various procedures such as diagnosing abnormalities, dental implant and orthodontic planning. In this regard, robust segmentation of dental computerized Tomography (CT) images is required. However, dental CT images present some major challenges for the segmentation that make it difficult process. In this research, we propose a multi-step approach for automatic segmentation of the teeth in dental CT images. The main steps of this method are presented as follows: 1-Primary segmentation to classify bony tissues from nonbony tissues. 2-Separating the general region of the teeth structure from the other bony structures and arc curve fitting in the region. 3-Individual tooth region detection. 4-Final segmentation using mean shift algorithm by defining a new feature space. The proposed algorithm has been applied to several Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) data sets and quality assessment metrics are used to evaluate the performance of the algorithm. The evaluation indicates that the accuracy of proposed method is more than 97 percent. Moreover, we compared the proposed method with thresholding, watershed, level set and active contour methods and our method shows an improvement in compare with other techniques.
