Adaptive learning in two-player Stackelberg games with application to network security

We study a two-player Stackelberg game with incomplete information such that the follower’s strategy belongs to a known family of parameterized functions with an unknown parameter vector. We design an adaptive learning approach to simultaneously estimate the unknown parameter and minimize the leader’s cost, based on adaptive control techniques and hysteresis switching. Our approach guarantees that the leader’s cost predicted using the parameter estimate becomes indistinguishable from its actual cost in finite time, up to a preselected, arbitrarily small error threshold. Also, the first-order necessary condition for optimality holds asymptotically for the predicted cost. Additionally, if a persistent excitation condition holds, then the parameter estimation error becomes bounded by a preselected, arbitrarily small threshold in finite time as well. For the case where there is a mismatch between the follower’s strategy and the parameterized function that is known to the leader, our approach is able to guarantee the same convergence results for error thresholds larger than the size of the mismatch. Cavity optomechanical (COM) sensors, featuring efficient light-motion couplings, have been widely used for ultrasensitive measurements of various physical quantities ranging from displacements to accelerations or weak forces. Previous works, however, have mainly focused on reciprocal COM systems. Here, we propose how to further improve the performance of quantum COM sensors by breaking reciprocal symmetry in purely quantum regime. Specifically, we consider a spinning COM resonator and show that by selectively driving it in opposite directions, highly nonreciprocal optical squeezing can emerge, which in turn provides an efficient way to surpass the standard quantum limit that otherwise exists in conventional reciprocal devices. Our work confirms that breaking reciprocal symmetry, already achieved in diverse systems well beyond spinning systems, can serve as a new strategy to further enhance the abilities of advanced quantum sensors, for applications ranging from testing fundamental physical laws to practical quantum metrology. The rapid development of high-speed railways (HSRs) puts forward high requirements on the corresponding communication system. Millimeter wave (mmWave) can be a promising solution due to its wide bandwidth, narrow beams, and rich spectrum resources. However, with the large number of antenna elements employed, energy-efficient solutions at mmWave frequencies are in great demand. Based on a mmWave HSR communication system with multiple mobile relays (MRs) on top of the train, a dynamic power-control scheme for train-ground communications is proposed. The scheme follows the regular movement characteristics of high-speed trains and considers three phases of train movement: the train enters the cell, all MRs are covered in the cell, and the train leaves the cell. The transmit power is further refined according to the number of MRs in the cell and the distance between the train and the remote radio head. By minimizing energy consumption under the constraints of the transmitted data and transmit power budget, the transmit power is allocated to multiple MRs through the multiplier punitive function-based algorithm. Comprehensive simulation results, where the velocity estimation error is taken into account, are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme over several baseline schemes. These days' smart buildings have high intensive information and massive operational parameters, not only extensive power consumption. With the development of computation capability and future 5 G, the ACP theory(i.e., artificial systems,computational experiments, and parallel computing) will play a much more crucial role in modeling and control of complex systems like commercial and academic buildings. The necessity of making accurate predictions of energy consumption out of a large number of operational parameters has become a crucial problem in smart buildings. Previous attempts have been made to seek energy consumption predictions based on historical data in buildings. However, there are still questions about parallel building consumption prediction mechanism using a large number of operational parameters. This article proposes a novel hybrid deep learning prediction approach that utilizes long short-term memory as an encoder and gated recurrent unit as a decoder in conjunction with ACP theory. The proposed approach is tested and validated by real-world dataset, and the results outperformed traditional predictive models compared in this paper.

Stochastic Stability of Discrete-time Phase-coupled Oscillators over Uncertain and Random Networks

This article studies stochastic relative phase stability, i.e., stochastic phase-cohesiveness, of discrete-time phase-coupled oscillators. Stochastic phase-cohesiveness in two types of networks is studied. First, we consider oscillators coupled with 2π-periodic odd functions over underlying undirected graphs subject to both multiplicative and additive stochastic uncertainties. We prove stochastic phase-cohesiveness of the network with respect to two specific, namely in-phase and anti-phase, sets by deriving sufficient coupling conditions. We show the dependency of these conditions on the size of the mean values of additive and multiplicative uncertainties, as well as the sign of the mean values of multiplicative uncertainties. Furthermore, we discuss the results under a relaxation of the odd property of the coupling function. Second, we study an uncertain network in which the multiplicative uncertainties are governed by the Bernoulli process representing the well-known Erdös-Rényi network. We assume constant exogenous frequencies and derive sufficient conditions for achieving both stochastic phase-cohesive and phase-locked solutions, i.e., stochastic phase-cohesiveness with respect to the origin. For the latter case, where identical exogenous frequencies are assumed, we prove that any positive probability of connectivity leads to phase-locking. Thorough analyses are provided, and insights obtained from stochastic analysis are discussed, along with numerical simulations to validate the analytical results. © 2021, CC BY.

With the explosive growth of mobile data, the demand of high-speed railway (HSR) passengers for broadband wireless access services urgently needs the support of ultra-high-speed scenario broadband wireless communication. Millimeter-wave (mmWave) can achieve high data transmission rates, but it is accompanied by high propagation loss and vulnerability to blockage. To address this issue, developments of directional antennas and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) enhance the robustness of the mmWave train-ground communication system. In this paper, we propose a UAV and MRs relay assistance (UMRA) algorithm to effectively overcome link blockage, which can maximize the number of transmission flows on the premise of meeting QoS requirements and channel qualities. First, we formulate a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem for UAV trajectory design and transmission scheduling in the full-duplex (FD) mode. Then, in UMRA, the relay decision algorithm and transmission scheduling algorithm based on graph theory are proposed, which make a good tradeoff between computation complexity and system performance. Extensive simulation results show that a suitable UAV position will greatly improve the performance of the UMRA algorithm and make it close to the optimal solution. Compared with the other two existing benchmark schemes, with the high channel quality requirements and large-area blockage, UMRA can greatly improve the number of completed flows and system throughput. In this paper, we develop and analyze a gossip-based average consensus algorithm that enables all of the components of a distributed system, each with some initial value, to reach (approximate) average consensus on their initial values after executing a finite number of iterations, and without having to reveal the specific value they contribute to the average calculation. We consider a fully-connected (undirected) network in which each pair of components (nodes) can be randomly selected to perform pairwise standard gossip averaging of their values, and propose an enhancement that can be followed by each node that does not want to reveal its initial value to other (curious) nodes. We assume that curious nodes try to identify the initial values of other nodes but do not interfere in the computation in any other way;however, as a worst-case assumption, curious nodes are allowed to collaborate arbitrarily and are assumed to know the privacy-preserving strategy (but not the actual parameters chosen by the nodes that want to preserve their privacy). We characterize precisely conditions on the information exchange that guarantee privacy-preservation for a specific node. The protocol also provides a criterion that allows the nodes to determine, in a distributed manner (while running the enhanced gossip protocol), when to terminate their operation because approximate average consensus has been reached, i.e., all nodes have obtained values that are within a small distance from the exact average of their initial values. © 2021, CC BY.

Air navigation aids infrastructure for civil aviation is one of the key enablers for implementation of new air navigation concept called Performance Based Navigation (PBN), which will allow more efficient use of airspace and, therefore, increase capacity to accommodate increasing air traffic. To implement PBN, the air traffic service route in the designated airspace must be covered with navigation aids infrastructure to provide adequate navigation performance to aircraft operating in such airspace. Coverage of ground-based navigation aids such as Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) depends on the conditions of the terrain around the installation site. To provide sufficient navigation coverage while being cost efficient, the location and number of the navigation aids equipment has to be optimized taking into account terrain geometry, radio propagation, airport location, and existing navigation aids network. For this reason, Geographic Information System (GIS) plays essential role in determining optimal network of navigation aids equipment. In this work, GIS platform for navigation aids infrastructure assessment and optimization is developed. The proposed platform enables cooperation between air navigation service provider and airspace users. The main goal is to support navigation aids planning with integrated and flexible tool. The platform is integrated with terrain and obstacle database, navigation aids database, and aeronautical information database (i.e. airspace boundary, air traffic services route, approach and departure procedures.). It is able to assess coverage of existing navigation aids network in 3-dimension in order to detect the coverage gaps. It also identifies obstructing obstacles or terrain. In addition, it optimizes number of additional equipment and associated installation site to satisfy required navigation performance. In this paper, we investigate the synthesis problem of edit functions for opacity enforcement in systems modelled as partially-observed finite-state automata. For better plausible deniability for the edit functions, in cases where the intruder may learn/know their existence, a synthesis problem for nondeterministic edit functions under a publicly-known setting was introduced in the literature, but not yet fully solved. In light of this, we revisit the publicly-known edit mechanism by proposing a sound and complete approach for solving the synthesis problem of nondeterministic publicly-known edit functions. For practical applications, the edit function is assumed to have limited erasure and insertion ability. Our approach is based on a new labelled finite-state structure, and results in wider applicability than previously-proposed in the literature. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
