Improved resampling particle filter for maneuvering point target tracking

The sample impoverishment during particles resampling is a challenging problem in using particle filter to track point target. The reason is that the impoverishment will lead to the divergence of particles and failure of tracking. To solve the problem, a new resampling algorithm is presented in this study. The idea is that random particle samples are drawn from the neighborhoods of previous samples with high weights according to Gaussian distribution instead of simple duplication. Therefore, during the resampling, the effect of sample impoverishment is reduced and diversity of particle samples is enriched because of the samples expansion while the low weights samples are discarded. To illustrate proposed method, the resampling algorithm with simple duplication and the resampling algorithm with random drawing samples based on Gaussian distribution are compared. Simulation results show that the tracking failure is reduced in the quantitative criteria-RMSE. © 2013 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

Quantum dot infrared photodetector (QDIP) is one of the important emerging devices in the field of infrared (IR) technology,and has received considerable attention in the past *** advantage using QDs as the active region of photodetectors originates from three-dimensional confinement for carriers,which offers normal incidence detection,and low dark currents and longer photocarrier lifetime (e.g.,compared to quantum wells (QWs)) owing to the phonon bottleneck effect.[1] Significant progress achieved in the past makes use of quantum dots and dots-in-a-well (DWELL) designs,based on n-type electrons.

The ability to nondestructively detect the presence of a single, traveling photon has been a long-standing goal in optics, with applications in quantum information and measurement. Realizing such a detector is complicated by the fact that photon-photon interactions are typically very weak. At microwave frequencies, very strong effective photon-photon interactions in a waveguide have recently been demonstrated. Here we show how this type of interaction can be used to realize a quantum nondemolition measurement of a single propagating microwave photon. The scheme we propose uses a chain of solid-state three-level systems (transmons) cascaded through circulators which suppress photon backscattering. Our theoretical analysis shows that microwave-photon detection with fidelity around 90% can be realized with existing technologies.

Feedback control is important for commercial manufacturers of polymer compounds, especially in the extrusion process. The inability to respond to disturbances in the extrusion process results in production of off- specification product and down-time. Due to the complexity of the system, it is difficult to accurately model an extrusion process. In this paper, we investigate two methods that do not require a strict model. This paper evaluates and compares a solution of traditional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control with an alternative framework of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) for viscosity regulation in polymer extrusion. The widely used PID control is easy to tunc, but is prone to cause cycling of the input signal and the control output. The simulations of ADRC in this paper show that only a small amount of knowledge is required of a process or processes for control to be achieved. ADRC is currently in use in programmable logic control code on multiple production lines of polymer hose extruders for barrel zone temperature control.

The goal of the work presented here is to influence the overall behaviour of specific animal societies by integrating computational mechatronic devices (robots) into those societies. To do so, these devices should be accepted by the animals aspart of the society and/or as part of the collectively formed environment. For that, we have developed two sets of robotic hardware for integrating into societies of two different animals: zebra fish and young honeybees. We also developed mechanisms to provide feedback from the behaviours of societies for the controllers of the robotic system. Two different computational methods are then used as the controllers of the robots in simulation and successfully adapted by evolutionary algorithms to influence the simulated animals for desired behaviours. Together, these advances in mechatronic hardware, feedback mechanisms, and controller methodology are laying essential foundations to facilitate experiments on modulating self-organised behaviour in mixed animal -- robot societies.

Nowadays, Web spam pages are a critical challenge for Web retrieval systems which have drastic influence on the performance of such systems. Although these systems try to combat the impact of spam pages on their final results list, spammers increasingly use more sophisticated techniques to increase the number of views for their intended pages in order to have more commercial success. This paper employs the recently proposed Layered Multi-population Genetic Programming model for Web spam detection task as well application of correlation coefficient analysis for feature space reduction. Based on our tentative results, the designed classifier, which is based on a combination of easy to compute features, has a very reasonable performance in comparison with similar methods.

In principle, quantum key distribution (QKD) offers unconditional security based on the laws of physics. Unfortunately, all previous QKD experiments assume perfect state preparation in their security analysis. Therefore, the generated key is not proven to be secure in the presence of unavoidable modulation errors. The key reason that modulation errors are not considered in previous QKD experiments lies in a crucial weakness of the standard Gottesman-Lo-Lütkenhaus-Preskill (GLLP) model, namely, it is not loss tolerant and Eve may in principle enhance imperfections through losses. Here, we propose a QKD protocol that is loss tolerant to state preparation flaws. Importantly, we show conclusively that the state preparation process in QKD can be much less precise than initially thought. Our method can also be applied to other quantum cryptographic protocols.

Nowadays one of the most important causes of mortality is cardiovascular disease, especially coronary artery stenosis. Therefore, it is important to find an accurate and fast way to diagnose them. Computed tomography angiography is a non-invasive imaging method for the heart and its vessel, which can be used instead of angiography in many cases. Indeed, the main focus is on developing an automatic method which can be as accurate as angiography with the least user's contribution. Automatic coronary artery segmentation is considered as the first step to reach this goal. Therefore, a hierarchical region growing algorithm is proposed in which the whole heart region vessels, aorta, left ventricle and other cardiovascular vessels are segmented for the purpose of coronary artery segmentation. Our method validation is assessed by a radiologist through comparing the results with manual segmentation of him. Proposed method's results are 86.81% in average similar to radiologist's segmentation in kappa statistic and its label consistency with radiologist's segmentation is 90.23%. Comparing to other methods, our method is automatic and both left and right coronary can be segmented in all data-sets. It also segments important branches of coronary artery. According to the radiologist comments and high similarity measure, proposed method is reliable and applicable. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper we propose first a predictive adaptive intra-RTD dispatch comprising: (1) Intra-RTD non-zero mean predictor which utilizes historic data about various uncertainties to predict the most likely non-zero mean imbalances;and, (2) Adaptive controller for non-zero mean intra-RTD imbalances using two-stage robust optimization. The result of applying these methods sequentially at the beginning of each RTD interval is the least-cost robust adaptation of RTD schedules in anticipation of the most likely non-zero mean imbalances. We illustrate how this proposed predictive adaptive intra-RTD dispatch can be implemented for a typical hour. Second, only hard-to-predict near-zero-mean imbalances are compensated using Automatic Generation control (AGC). The basic conclusion is that a combination of predictive adaptive intra-RTD and recently proposed Enhanced-AGC (E-AGC) should be used for the least cost on-line balancing of non-zero mean and zero mean imbalances, respectively.
