Reactive power is local and needs to be consumed locally; therefore, this paper investigates a sub-regional local market for reactive auxiliary services, where the power trading agency is responsible for receiving and aggregating the operating cost bids and opportunity loss bids from power generating companies. The power dispatch agency aims to minimize each local market's reactive power procurement costs, thereby minimizing reactive power generation subject to system constraints and voltage support. In this paper, a sub-regional reactive auxiliary services market clearing model with distributed energy participation is proposed and tested on an IEEE 24 bus system with each region as a node. The results show that the reactive market mechanism provided in this paper can incentivize extensive participation of new energy units and maintain sufficient reactive reserves and that the market power of individual units can be controlled within reasonable limits.

A New Image Quality Database for Multiple Industrial Processes

Recent years have witnessed a broader range of applications of image processing technologies in multiple industrial processes, such as smoke detection, security monitoring, and workpiece inspection. Different kinds of distortion types and levels must be introduced into an image during the processes of acquisition, compression, transmission, storage, and display, which might heavily degrade the image quality and thus strongly reduce the final display effect and clarity. To verify the reliability of existing image quality assessment methods, we establish a new industrial process image database (IPID), which contains 3000 distorted images generated by applying different levels of distortion types to each of the 50 source images. We conduct the subjective test on the aforementioned 3000 images to collect their subjective quality ratings in a well-suited laboratory environment. Finally, we perform comparison experiments on IPID database to investigate the performance of some objective image quality assessment algorithms. The experimental results show that the state-of-the-art image quality assessment methods have difficulty in predicting the quality of images that contain multiple distortion types. The arrival of Electric Vehicles (EVs) is a key element in the management of the future smart grid. A car is unused for 95% of its life time and the average use of an EV requires less than 80% of the battery capacity for daily trips. Therefore, it will be possible to use the stored electricity and inject it into the grid during faulty periods. Here comes the concept of the Vehicle-To-Grid (V2G) application which consists of using EVs batteries as a mobile storage capacity. It ensures the bidirectional power transfer between batteries of Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) and the grid as well as, offering ancillary services to the grid like voltage and frequency regulation. This paper studies the operation of the V2G application during balanced grid voltage sags, a new control strategy is proposed and utilized to support the grid by injection of reactive power. The Matlab Simulink environment is used to implement and evaluate the proposed control strategy. © 2020 IEEE.

With the wide application of wireless LAN, the real-time and differentiated services of IEEE 802.11 MAC are becoming more and more important. IEEE 802.11 uses CSMA/CA mechanism in MAC layer to coordinate access, but it does not meet the different requirements of different users for QoS. Considering the different requirements of different priority users for QoS, a solution is proposed for this problem. The core idea of this strategy is: in a multi rate network, according to the priority of nodes in the network, through adaptive optimization of relevant parameters, the probability of high priority nodes accessing the channel can be improved, and its throughput can be improved accordingly; The channel access probability of nodes with lower priority is reduced accordingly, and the throughput is reduced accordingly. Therefore, this policy can expand the throughput of each priority and realize the service differentiation function.

Because a CubeSat's Electrical Power System (EPS) must endure the hostile space environment, which includes radiation, temperature fluctuations, and electrostatic discharge, its dependability is essential to the mission's success. Based on real-world mission experience, this study presents the first organized paradigm that addresses the whole CubeSat EPS development lifecycle, including sizing, design, integration, and qualification. By conforming to the project life cycles of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS), the framework guarantees adherence to space standards and facilitates the early detection of possible design flaws. In order to guarantee energy sufficiency before hardware development, the framework offers early insights into power generation, storage needs, and subsystem consumption through its Mission Design and Preliminary Power Budget phases. While SIMULINK facilitates preliminary electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) analysis, which aids in identifying design hazards associated with heat dissipation and conducted emissions, COMSOL Multiphysics is utilized for thermal evaluation during the EPS Design phase. By addressing important concerns prior to manufacturing, these early tests increase reliability and lower development costs. The robustness and practical use of the suggested methodology are illustrated by a real-world CubeSat case study, which validates each stage through hardware implementation and environmental and functional testing. In addition to addressing a significant vacuum in the literature, this study enables more dependable and reproducible CubeSat EPS designs for upcoming space missions by offering a comprehensive, mission-driven, and standards-compliant development approach. © 2025 The Author(s)

The infrared images have wider practical value in industry, medicine and military. They capture the long wave at the infrared camera, which will cause unique distortions differently to natural images. The current research of image quality assessment (IQA) for infrared images has been largely overlooked so far. To fill this void, we describe a novel benchmark infrared imaging quality evaluation database, dubbed I2QED. The database includes 50 reference (original) images from other available infrared image datasets. The pristine images are distorted by introducing white noise, blur, non-uniformity and compression for the acquisition and transmission of the long wave signals. The 5000 distorted images with various human visual perception quality are obtained by five different levels of degradation for each type. The 5050 images including reference and distorted images are evaluated by 30 inexperienced observers to obtain mean opinion scores (MOS). We analyze the I2QED database using 13 traditional and advanced objective quality evaluation measures. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness and versatility of the proposed database, and weaknesses of existing algorithms. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

General analytical algorithm of mechanical properties for 1H−MX2 transition metal dioxides and dichalcogenides

2D transition-metal dioxides and dichalcogenides with 1H phase (1H−MX2) have a large number of members and a wide range of material properties, making them promising candidates for numerous applications. The comprehensive, accurate, and rapid evaluation on the mechanical properties of the 1H−MX2 family has been an important and challenging issue. Here, a general theoretical model is constructed based on molecular mechanics, which provides an accurate and rapid analytical algorithm for calculating the mechanical properties of the entire family of 1H−MX2. The validity of the constructed model is verified by molecular dynamics simulations upon the scale effect on the mechanical behavior of 1H−MoS2. Notably, we report a library composed of the mechanical properties of 34 types of 1H−MX2. It is found that the mechanical performances of 1H−MX2 depend on the period and group numbers of elements. The obtained results are in good agreement with the existing experimental and numerical results. Furthermore, the roles of molecular structure and force field on the mechanical properties are elucidated, which is beneficial in predicting the mechanical performances of the potential and unreported 1H−MX2. The findings offer an important theoretical basis for the reverse design and optimization of 1H−MX2 material-based nanodevices through nanostructure-property relationships.

Shijiazhuang is one of the cities in the North China *** recent decades,this city has experienced high levels of fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5)),which have potentially significant effects on human *** this study,the health effects of PM_(2.5)exposure in Shijiazhuang were estimated by applying an integrated exposure-response *** mortality,years of life lost(YLL),and the mortality benefits linked to reduced levels of PM_(2.5)were quantified for the period 2015–*** 2015,2016,and 2017,cerebrovascular diseases caused the highest premature mortality(2432,2449,and 2483,respectively),followed by ischemic heart diseases(1391,1479,and 1493,respectively),lung cancer(639,660,and 639,respectively),and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases(533,519,and 473,respectively).Notably,the total number of premature deaths caused by PM_(2.5)exposure in Shijiazhuang in 2015,2016,and 2017 were 4994,5107,and 5088,***,the YLL in the same years were 47001,47880 and 47381,***,the YLL per 1000 females was lower than that per 1000 ***,we noted that premature mortality and YLL decreased by 84.2%and 84.6%when the PM_(2.5)levels diminished to 10µg/m^(3).Overall,the results of this study improve our understanding of how high PM_(2.5)concentrations affect human health and suggest the application of more stringent measures in Shijiazhuang to alleviate the associated health risks.

Parametric Stability Score for Local Solutions of Constrained Parametric Nonlinear Programs

Nonlinear optimization problems arise in the context of many engineering processes and other real-world applications. Depending on the complexity of modeled phenomena and constraints, such problems can feature multiple local solutions of different nature. Primarily, the quality of a solution is measured by the value of an objective function, and hence, one aims to find a global optimum. In many cases, however, additional criteria arise. For instance, nonlinear programs, in addition to decision variables, might depend on parameters undergoing perturbations. Such disturbances might be caused by noisy measurement data, changes in the environment in a real-time setting or other factors. In this case, apart from good optimality, a practitioner might be interested in the behaviour of a solution under changes in parameters. Recently, the parametric stability score was introduced as a quality measure for solutions of unconstrained problems with respect to the influence of parameter perturbations. In this paper, we extend the concept to constrained optimization problems. The score is defined as the largest magnitude of a perturbation for which the perturbed solution does not deviate from the nominal one beyond an allowed tolerance. Our work is based on the results of parametric sensitivity analysis. This framework enables us to give a formal definition of the parametric stability score and provides tools for its efficient numerical approximation. We illustrate the approach with an example and discuss possible application scenarios for the concept.
