With the rapid development of technology, smart devices have become indispensable tools for people, and IoT devices are ubiquitous, playing an important role in our daily lives. When using IoT device applications and services, users must go through complex authentication processes, which are time-consuming and pose various security issues. Not only must users be authenticated, but the devices must also be identified to ensure security. Physically Unclonable Functions (PUF) can be considered as hardware fingerprints due to their randomness and unpredictability, used to identify the uniqueness of devices. Given the limited computational power of IoT devices, the need for lightweight mechanisms is even more pronounced. Therefore, this protocol proposes a three-party mutual authentication using a smartphone involving the user, the server, and the IoT device. The PUF within the device generates a session key to authorize the IoT device to use and access the service. Finally, the contributions of this mechanism are highlighted through security analysis and comparison with related works. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The considerable surge in energy consumption due to population growth and the use of new technology has posed significant challenges to energy security and the environment. Managing energy consumption on the consumer side is crucial as the demand for energy continues to increase. Consumers need to monitor their daily usage and understand consumption standards to prepare themselves for energy efficiency and cost savings. To address these challenges, a Smart Energy Management System (SEMS) based on the Internet of Energy (IoE) has been developed. This system uses day-Ahead planning and accurate energy availability forecasting to manage energy demand in a smart environment with high sustainable energy penetration. The Fuzzy based Weighted Federated Learning (FWFML) approach is integrated into the system to optimize energy management. The SEMS system monitors energy usage at the user level, and a review of management plans has been introduced to improve energy efficiency in terms of 93.5% accuracy, and 6.5% miss-rate. This research work also highlights future challenges in developing SEMS to increase energy efficiency in a more robust manner. © 2024 IEEE.

The health industry has kept growing over the years with breakthroughs. However, in skin disease recognition such as cancer, there is still a battle to improve how recognition is implemented to get the desired result. The paper focuses on skin cancer recognition using deep learning. In addition, a cloud-based model-based architecture that uses deep learning algorithms in its core applications to create models that help predict skin cancer with improved accuracy is considered. System analysis and specification are also done in conjunction with a description of procedures and requirements. Implementation and testing are also done and finalized with the conclusion and future work. The main outcomes of the results and conclusion will be drawn from the implementation and testing that are carried out on the data. In addition to the fact that the implications of the findings would become valuable and further used as a benchmark for future research work in the research domain. © 2023 IEEE.

Intelligent supply line surveillance is critical for modern smart grids. Smart sensors and gateway nodes are strategically deployed along supply lines to achieve intelligent surveillance. They collect data continuously and transmit it to the control centre in real-time. It enables real-time monitoring, fault detection, and efficient energy management across distribution networks. This advanced surveillance system ensures continuous monitoring of supply lines, detecting anomalies, and optimizing operations to maintain the stability and reliability of the smart grid. However, the reliance of all participating nodes on public communication channels to transmit supply line surveillance data exposes these systems to critical cyber attacks. These cyber attacks include impersonation, physical tampering, ephemeral secret leakage, and desynchronization attacks. To address these issues, existing key-exchange protocols often fail to ensure robust security while imposing high computation and communication overheads, limiting their practicality for resource-constrained environments. Therefore, we propose a secure and efficient key exchange and tamper-resistant authentication protocol using Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs). The PUF mechanism provides robust resistance against physical tampering and cloning attacks, ensuring enhanced physical security for supply line devices. We validate the security robustness of the devised protocol using the Random or Real (ROR) model. Furthermore, informal security analysis demonstrates the protocol's robustness in rigorously resisting various attacks, including physical tampering, impersonation, ephemeral secret leakage and desynchronization. Moreover, we determine the performance evaluation that reveals the protocol's superior efficiency compared to competing protocols, achieving significant reductions of 28.64% in computation overhead and 9.96% in communication overhead. © 2014 IEEE.

The energy Internet (EI) presents a novel paradigm for renewable energy distribution that utilizes communication and computing technologies to revolutionize the conventional intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) and power grid into a structure that provides assistance to open innovation. The EI offers sustainable and bidirectional transmission for the improvement and analysis of energy convention among electric vehicles (EVs) and service providers. To ensure efficient, reliable, and secure operation, EI must be safe from security attacks. Therefore, efficient and secure key negotiation is a significant issue for the EI-based Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) architecture. Thus, to ensure the system's security, we have devised a robust scheme to facilitate a secure key agreement between the entities involved for the secure and efficient renewable energy distribution for the EI-based energy vehicles in V2G. The devised scheme's robustness is solicited through the widely accepted formal random or real (RoR) model. In addition, the informal security analysis is conducted on the devised scheme, which is evident that the designed scheme achieves all the required security features of EI-based ITS. Moreover, the performance evaluation results endorse that the designed scheme achieves the desired security and minimizes the communication, computation, and energy overhead by 29.33%, 27.94%, and 28.08% in comparison to the existing competitive schemes. © 2014 IEEE.

Vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) plays an essential role in helping the development of smart cars and intelligent transportation systems. By easing congestion and speeding up data transfer, VANET makes it possible for connected cars to function more smoothly. However, VANETs are affected by different types of cyber attacks, such as distributed denial of services (DDoS) attacks. A digital twin (DT) is a replica of a physical system that operates in tandem with the actual thing, allowing for continuous monitoring and management. The DT prepares the way for the monitoring of a physical entity on a regular basis and for its automated management. The improved efficiency in keeping tabs on the physical world is largely attributable to DT. For this reason, academics are advocating for its use in a variety of settings. In this research, we use DT to solve the problem of identifying and stopping malignant nodes on a VANET infrastructure. In this paper, we proposed a framework that uses the concepts of DT for the identification of malignant nodes. the development of side-channel attacks makes secrets visible due to the physical leakage of confidential operations. In order to prevent the crack of cryptography, various cost sensitive countermeasures of side channel attacks are also being developed. This paper proposes a zero payload deformative method, which can increase the resistant sidechannel attacks of Advanced Encryption Standard cryptography by 10 to 100 times. Lung and colon cancers are two of the most common and deadliest cancers worldwide, claiming countless lives each year. The ability to diagnose these cancers early can make a big difference in patient survival rates. Moreover, recent advancements in deep learning technology show significant promise in enhancing diagnostic accuracy. In this study, we propose a computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system that utilizes pre-Trained Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to accurately classify histopathological images of lung and colon cancers. We utilized the publicly available LC25000 dataset, which contains 25,000 images, to train and evaluate several well-known deep learning models, such as Visual Geometry Group 16 (VGG16), and Visual Geometry Group19 (VGG19). After fine-Tuning model parameters such as learning rate, batch size, and the number of training cycles (epochs), our CNN+VGG19 model achieved an impressive accuracy of 99.04%. These findings demonstrate t he potential of combining CNN architectures with transfer learning to develop more reliable diagnostic tools. Our work contributes to ongoing efforts to improve early cancer detection and offers a helpful tool for doctors in detecting lung and colon cancers. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes an enhanced resource selection (eInP-RS) scheme for efficient intra-platoon message delivery of cooperative awareness messages (CAMs) and decentralized environmental notification messages (DENMs). To achieve this goal, the eInP-RS scheme allows each vehicle to transmit CAM and DENM packets on a C-V2X channel (CH1) and an 802.11p channel (CH2), separately, and introduces four mechanisms to enhance the standardized sensing-based SPS scheme. A contention window (CW) size adjustment mechanism is introduced to enable a vehicle to adjust its CW size according to the information it collects on CH1 in order to avoid potential packet collisions on CH2;a resource partition mechanism is introduced to divide frequency-time resources in a selection window into two sets in order for vehicles moving in opposite directions to select different resources and thus avoid potential merging collisions on CH1;an intra-platoon cooperation mechanism is introduced to enable the PL of a platoon to know the resource and channel occupation information of the platoon's hidden nodes on CH1 and CH2;and a packet collision detection mechanism is used to enable a non-platoon vehicle to detect packet collisions occurring on both channels after a lane-changing maneuver to avoid potential merging collisions. Simulation results show that the proposed eInP-RS scheme outperforms the standardized sensing-based SPS scheme in terms of the intra-platoon CAM/DENM delivery ratio and the average intra-platoon DENM delivery delay. © 2024 IEEE.

Smart Grids (SG) rely on Home Area Networks (HAN) and Neighborhood Area Networks (NAN) to ensure efficient power distribution, real-time monitoring, and seamless communication between smart devices. Despite these advantages, the use of public communication channels in HAN and NAN networks introduces critical challenges, such as vulnerability to impersonation, physical tampering, and scalability issues in resource-constrained environments. These issues compromise the stability, reliability, and security of SG environments. Existing protocols often fail to adequately address these challenges, particularly in ensuring resistance to physical tampering of supply lines and impersonation attacks. Additionally, they struggle to minimize the computation, communication, and energy costs associated with securing a resource-constrained SG environment. Therefore, we propose a robust key exchange and tamper-resistant protocol for HAN and NAN networks to address these limitations. The proposed protocol leverages the Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) mechanism to offer physical tampering resistance to smart meters. We validate our protocol formally using the Random or Real (RoR) model, which confirms its security robustness. Additionally, our informal security analysis highlights the protocol's resilience against impersonation, physical tampering attacks, etc. We analyze and compare the performance of the proposed protocol, which further demonstrates our protocol's effectiveness and security compared to competing protocols. Moreover, the proposed protocol achieves resource efficiency with 45.99% and 58.85% substantial reductions in computation overhead and energy overhead, respectively, compared to competing protocols. These results showcase the protocol's enhanced security and practicality for resource-constrained SG environments. © 2014 IEEE.
