Batch is an important pattern in data streams, which refers to a group of identical items that arrive closely. We find that some special batches that arrive periodically are of great value. In this paper, we formally define a new pattern, namely periodic batches. A group of periodic batches refers to several batches of the same item, where these batches arrive periodically. Studying periodic batches is important in many applications, such as caches, financial markets, online advertisements, networks, etc. We propose a one-pass sketching algorithm, namely the HyperCalm sketch, which takes two phases to detect periodic batches in real time. In phase 1, we propose a time-aware Bloom filter, namely HyperBloomFilter (HyperBF), to detect the start of batches. In phase 2, we propose an enhanced top-k algorithm, called Calm Space-Saving (CalmSS), to report top-k periodic batches. We theoretically derive the error bounds for HyperBF and CalmSS. Extensive experiments show HyperCalm outperforms the strawman solutions 4× in term of average relative error and 13.2× in term of speed. We also apply HyperCalm to a cache system and integrate HyperCalm into Apache Flink. All related codes are open-sourced.

Although the excellent representation ability of improved Dense Trajectory (iDT) based features for action video had been proved on several action datasets, the performance of action recognition still suffers from large camera motion of videos. In this paper, we improve the iDT method by advancing a novel salient region boundary based dense sampling strategy, which reduces the number of trajectories while preserves the discriminative power. We first implement the iDT sampling based on motion boundary image, then introduce a global contrast based salient object segmentation method in interest points sampling step of action recognition. To overcome the flaws of global color contrast-based salient region sampling, we apply morphological gradient to generate a more robust mask for sampling dense points, as motion boundaries are much clearer. To evaluate the proposed method, we conduct extensive experiments on two benchmarks including HMDB51 and UCF 50. The results show that our sampling strategy can improve the performance of action recognition with minor computational cost of mask production. In particular, on the HMDB51 dataset, the improvement over the original iDT result is 3%. Meanwhile, any other dense features of action recognition can achieve more competitive performance by utilizing our sampling strategy and Fisher vector encoding method simply. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

Structural controllability of complex networks has been a research focus in recent years. However, few works considered the structural controllability of biological networks, especially for dynamic biological networks. In this paper, structural controllability of one static and five dynamic transcriptional regulatory networks (TRNs) for Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) have been investigated. The five dynamic networks included two endogenous and three exogenous ones. We clarified the controllability properties of these networks, as well as explored the differences among different types of networks. Our results revealed that the structural properties of different types of networks are significantly different. We found that the TRNs are rather difficult to be fully controlled. However, the dynamic TRNs were relatively easier to be controlled than the static one, and one needs relatively more external inputs to control the exogenous TRNs than the endogenous ones. Based on the structural controllability analysis of subnetworks with the same sizes, as well as randomly perturbed networks by preserving degree distributions, we further illustrated that the structural controllability of the six networks may be mainly dominated by their degree distributions. Our investigations clarify the control properties of TRNs in S. cerevisiae, it provides some insights on real-world control of biological networks. © 2018 IEEE.

In the case of power grid cascading trip, this study puts forward a strategy to prevent cascading trip by changing the output of generator set. Firstly, according to the specific performance of the power grid under the cascade tripping, combined with the action behavior of the line current-type backup protection, and an expression equation for measuring the safety level index between the power grid and the cascading trip failure is given. Secondly, the vulnerable branch is found out through the safety level index, the output of the key power generation nodes on the branch is taken as the optimization variable, and the optimization model is established to improve the safety level index under the chain trip of the power grid. Finally, a combination of sensitivity analysis and particle swarm optimization(PSO) was used to analyze an example on the IEEE-39 node system. The results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the model and method, and provide a reference for preventing chain trip accidents. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Aiming at the cascading fault phenomenon of power system, this paper analyzes the disturbed branches involved in the initial fault and their relationship with the power generating nodes. Firstly, according to the performance of the initial fault branch in the cascading fault phenomenon and the action of relay protection, an expression form of evaluating the severity of the initial fault branch is given. Secondly, the relationship between the current of the residual system branch and the injection power of the nodes after the initial fault removal is analyzed. Then, on the basis of synthesizing the severity of the disturbed branch and its correlation with the power generating nodes, the key power generating nodes on the seriously disturbed branch are selected by clustering analysis. Finally, based on the key power generation nodes, the optimal power generation output model considering the power generation operation cost was established, the model was solved by particle swarm optimization (PSO), the model was simulated by IEEE39 bus system in MATLAB environment, and the correctness of the established model and method was verified. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Indoor 3D mapping provides a useful three-dimensional structure via an indoor map for many applications. To acquire highly efficient and relatively accurate mapping for large-scale GPS/GNSS-denied scene, we present an upgraded backpacked laser scanning system and a car-mounted indoor mobile laser scanning system. The systems provide both 3D laser scanning point cloud and camera images. In this paper, a simultaneous extrinsic calibration approach for multiple multi-beam LIDAR and multiple cameras is also proposed using the Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM)-based algorithm. The proposed approach uses the SLAM-based algorithm to achieve a large calibration scene using mobile platforms, registers an acquired multi-beam LIDAR point cloud to the terrestrial LIDAR point cloud to acquire denser points for corner feature extraction, and finally achieves simultaneous calibration. With the proposed mapping and calibration algorithms, we can provide centimetre-lever coloured point cloud with relatively high efficiency and accuracy. © Authors 2018. CC BY 4.0 License.

The security and resilience of power systems are gradually challenged. As a typical index measuring the security and resilience of power systems, the frequency stability issue is becoming prominent. Due to the increase in the complexity of power systems, the frequency stability boundary is gradually becoming fuzzy, leading to traditional analytical-modeling algorithms hardly applicable for frequency stability constrained dispatch. Existing data-driven methods for characterizing frequency stability boundary typically requires massive simulation calculations, leading to unnecessary computing power consumption. To this end, zeroth-order (ZO) optimization, which aims to solve optimization problems embedding non-analytic functions, is adopted for solving the frequency stability constrained dispatch in this paper. In contrast to traditional data-driven methods, we directly embed frequency stability simulation check into power system dispatch. The gradient of frequency stability simulation check is estimated through ZO optimization, thereby realizing the interaction optimization between power system dispatch and real-time simulation. In this way, the solution for the frequency stability constrained dispatch is modified towards the optimal point along the gradient descent direction. Cases studies based on IEEE-9 bus system verifies that, compared with traditional data-driven methods, the solution approach we propose could reduce the system cost while significantly improving the calculation efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

2020 was an unprecedented year,with rapid and drastic changes in human mobility due to the COVID-19 *** understand the variation in commuting patterns among the Chinese population across stable and unstable periods,we used nationwide mobility data from 318 million mobile phone users in China to examine the extreme fluctuations of population movements in 2020,ranging from the Lunar New Year travel season(chunyun), to the exceptional calm of COVID-19 lockdown,and then to the recovery *** observed that cross-city movements,which increased substantially in chunyun and then dropped sharply during the lockdown,are primarily dependent on travel distance and the socio-economic development of *** the Lunar New Year holiday,national mobility remained low until mid-February,and COVID-19 interventions delayed more than 72.89 million people returning to large *** network analysis revealed clusters of highly connected cities,conforming to the social-economic division of urban agglomerations in *** the mass migration back to large cities was delayed,smaller cities connected more densely to form new *** the recovery period after travel restrictions were lifted,the netflows of over 55% city pairs reversed in direction compared to before the *** findings offer the most comprehensive picture of Chinese mobility at fine resolution across various scenarios in China and are of critical importance for decision making regarding future public-health-emergency response,transportation planning and regional economic development,among others.

This paper investigates the formation stabilization control problem of a group of networked nonholonomic unicycle agents with a static leader. A distributed observer is presented for each agent to estimate the position and orientation of leader. A feedback controller is then constructed to make the agents form the desired geometric shape centered at the leader. The control protocol consists of the observer and the feedback controller. With this protocol, each agent computes the control signals only using its own state and its neighbors' information. Based on Lyapunov method and Barbalat lemma, stability analysis shows that all the unicycle agents globally asymptotically make into the desired shape centered at the position of leader, and that their orientations tend to the orientation of leader, provided that the communication graph has a spanning tree with at least one root agent knowing the information of leader. Finally, a numerical simulation is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control law.
