Accountable privacy-enhanced multi-authority attribute-based authentication scheme for cloud services*✰

Current attribute-based authentication (ABA) schemes have three major drawbacks: first, the single attribute authority (AA) becomes the system bottleneck, i.e., if the AA is corrupted, the entire system will stop working; second, user privacy is not completely secured; and third, malicious users may exploit their anonymity. To overcome these defects, we improved a previously established privacy-preserving decentralized ciphertext policy attribute-based encryption (PPD-CP-ABE) scheme, obtaining a PPD-CP-ABE with verifiable outsourced decryption (PPD-CP-ABE-VOD). This improved scheme uses outsourced decryption, secure two-party computation protocol, and zero-knowledge proofs. We transformed the PPD-CP-ABE-VOD scheme into a new privacy-enhanced multi-authority ABA scheme using an identity tracing mechanism based on linear encryption. This new scheme has the following advantages over similar schemes. First, it introduces multiple AAs and does not require users to trust AA fully. Second, it protects users’ attributes, global identifiers, and access behavior, thus strengthening user privacy protection. Finally, it balances user privacy protection and user accountability. Theoretical and experimental analyses have shown that the new scheme is comparable to recently proposed ABA systems in terms of performance in the key generation and authentication phases, despite appending multiple security properties.

Dielectric elastomer actuator (DEA) is a kind of flexible intelligent material actuators and widely used in motion driving devices of soft biomimetic robots. However, both the butterfly-like hysteresis and the square term of the control input make the controller design become challenging. To this end, this article proposes an effective control scheme for a motion platform driven by DEA with the following contributions: first, a new butterfly-like KP (BKP) hysteresis nonlinear mathematical model is constructed to accurately curve the butterfly-like hysteresis in DEA. Second, an implicit inverse compensation control algorithm is proposed, where a novel searching mechanism is designed to extract the actual control signal from the hysteresis temporary controller with input square term. Third, the conical dielectric elastomer motion platform with spring is constructed and the effectiveness of the proposed BKP hysteresis model and input square implicit inverse control strategy is verified through the constructed motion platform. © 1996-2012 IEEE.

PVDM-YOLOv8l: a solution for reliable pedestrian and vehicle detection in autonomous vehicles under adverse weather conditions

Ensuring the safe navigation of autonomous vehicles in intelligent transportation system depends on their ability to detect pedestrians and vehicles. While transformer-based models for object detection have shown remarkable advancements, accurately identifying pedestrians and vehicles in adverse weather conditions remains a challenging task. Adverse weather introduces image quality degradation, leading to issues such as low contrast, reduced visibility, blurred edges, false detection, misdetection of tiny objects, and other impediments that further complicate the accuracy of detection. This paper introduces a novel Pedestrian and Vehicle Detection Model under adverse weather conditions, denoted as PVDM-YOLOv8l. In our proposed model, we first incorporate the Swin-Transformer method, which is designed for global extraction of feature of small objects to identify in poor visibility, into the YOLOv8l backbone structure. To enhance detection accuracy and address the impact of inaccurate features on recognition performance, CBAM is integrated between the neck and head networks of YOLOv8l, aiming to gather crucial information and obtain essential data. Finally, we adopted the loss function Wise-IOU v3. This function was implemented to mitigate the adverse effects of low-quality instances by minimizing negative gradients. Additionally, we enhanced and augmented the DAWN dataset and created a custom dataset, named DAWN2024, to cater to the specific requirements of our study. To verify the superiority of PVDM-YOLOV8l, its performance was compared against several commonly used object detectors, including YOLOv3, YOLOv3-tiny, YOLOv3-spp, YOLOv5, YOLOv6, and all the versions of YOLOv8 (n, m, s, l, and x) and some traditional models. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed model achieved a 6.6%, 5.4%, 6%, and 5.1% improvement in precision, recall, F1-score and mean Average Precision (mAP) on the custom DAWN2024 dataset. In the image restoration task, how to make full use of spatial and channel feature information to improve the reconstruction quality of the model without significantly increasing the computational complexity is an important research issue. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a CS module (Channel Compression and Split-Attention) specifically for optimizing image denoising tasks. The module first compresses the features through a preliminary convolution operation, then introduces the split attention convolution mechanism to split the features by channel and dynamically weight them, thereby enhancing the model's adaptive attention to different feature channels and improving feature expression capabilities. Through experiments on multiple image denoising datasets, the results show that the CS module significantly improves the image reconstruction quality, especially in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). At the same time, the introduction of the CS module does not lead to a significant increase in computational complexity, maintaining a high computational efficiency, which verifies the practicality and superiority of the module in image denoising tasks. © 2024 IEEE.

Computer vision plays a vital role in automating environmental analysis by enabling real-time object detection and classification in diverse conditions. Litter pollution poses significant health and environmental risks due to inefficient disposal, and manual oversight is labor intensive. Effective litter detection is crucial for large-scale environmental monitoring. However, existing models face challenges such as the complexity of detecting shadowy objects in varying lighting conditions (e.g., during rain or under sun rays), difficulty in recognizing small objects, low accuracy, and poor real-time performance. Existing two-stage detectors, such as Faster R-CNN, also struggle with these issues. This paper introduces an automated deep learning-based image processing approach for accurate litter detection across different locations, using an enhanced version of YOLOv9s called LD-YOLOv9s. Key improvements in this novel approach include replacing convolutional layers with DynConvLayer in the backbone, integrating an SDConv-ADown module to substitute down-sampling layers in the neck, and using MPD-IoU instead of CIoU. These modifications reduce the chances of overlooking small objects, such as caps or lids, which had the least class meaning in the dataset, achieving a mAP of 78.3% with an inference time of 6.7ms. A significant contribution of this work is the LD-2024 dataset, curated from indoor and outdoor environments with manually annotated images. Performance comparisons were made with several YOLO versions (YOLOv3, YOLOv5, YOLOv6, YOLOv7, YOLOv8, YOLOv9 variants) and traditional object detectors (Faster R-CNN, center Net, Retina Net, Cascade R-CNN). Ablation studies validate the effectiveness of LD-YOLOv9s, which outperforms conventional methods, achieving a 6.3% improvement in mean average precision (mAP) over YOLOv9s on the LD-2024 dataset.

This paper focuses on the large-scale optimization which is very popular in the big data era. The gradient sketching is an important technique in the large-scale optimization. Specifically, the random coordinate descent algorithm is a kind of gradient sketching method with the random sampling matrix as the sketching matrix. In this paper, we propose a novel gradient sketching called GSGD (Gaussian Sketched Gradient Descent). Compared with the classical gradient sketching methods such as the random coordinate descent and SEGA (Hanzely et al., 2018), our GSGD does not require the importance sampling but can achieve a fast convergence rate matching the ones of these methods with importance sampling. Furthermore, if the objective function has a non-smooth regularization term, our GSGD can also exploit the implicit structure information of the regularization term to achieve a fast convergence rate. Finally, our experimental results substantiate the effectiveness and efficiency of our algorithm. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

In order to achieve more efficient and accurate DDoS detection while ensuring data privacy, this paper proposes a DDoS detection method based on FLAD. Firstly, this paper uses the FLAD algorithm to train a global DDoS detection model without leaving local traffic data, protecting the privacy and security of traffic data between different hosts, and improving aggregation efficiency by dynamically adjusting the aggregation weights to adapt to different sub-dataset increments. Secondly, a DDoS traffic detection method based on the integration of LSTM and CNN is proposed, which extracts and analyzes the temporal correlation of traffic data by calculating the statistical characteristics of traffic data within a time period, to achieve real-time detection of traffic feature data. Again, combined with the concept of SDN, real-time defense against DDoS based on ODL-API is implemented, and precise matching of DDoS detection results with network entity information is achieved, realizing the technology of real-time and precise issuance of multiple flow rules, effectively blocking DDoS malicious attack traffic, protecting important entities in the topology, and maintaining stable traffic in the topology. This paper focuses on solving the detection problem of DDoS traffic data increments and uneven data distribution through the FLAD algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves the accuracy of DDoS attack detection by more than 4% and the F1 Score by more than 7% compared to the FedAvg aggregation algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

In decentralized optimization, m agents form a network and only communicate with their neighbors, which gives advantages in data ownership, privacy, and scalability. At the same time, decentralized stochastic gradient descent (SGD) methods, as popular decentralized algorithms for training large-scale machine learning models, have shown their superiority over centralized counterparts. Distributed stochastic gradient tracking (DSGT) (Pu & Nedić, 2021) has been recognized as the popular and state-of-the-art decentralized SGD method due to its proper theoretical guarantees. However, the theoretical analysis of DSGT (Koloskova et al., 2021) shows that its iteration complexity is (equation presented) where the doubly stochastic matrix W represents the network topology and CW is a parameter that depends on W. Thus, it indicates that the convergence property of DSGT is heavily affected by the topology of the communication network. To overcome the weakness of DSGT, we resort to the snapshot gradient tracking skill and propose two novel algorithms, snap-shot DSGT (SS DSGT) and accelerated snap-shot DSGT (ASS DSGT). We further justify that SS DSGT exhibits a lower iteration complexity compared to DSGT in the general communication network topology. Additionally, ASS DSGT matches DSGT's iteration complexity (equation presented) under the same conditions as DSGT. Numerical experiments validate SS DSGT's superior performance in the general communication network topology and exhibit better practical performance of ASS DSGT on the specified W compared to DSGT.
