Large-scale human mobility data contains rich spatial and temporal information for urban sensing, crowd flow modeling, and urban planning. However, it is usually difficult to access wide-coverage, long-term, and consistent-time human mobility data. Most of the publicly available datasets are actually only records of discontinuous trajectories of a very small portion of urban citizens in asynchronous time due to the limited usage of apps for location data collection or the limited number of volunteers. To address this problem and empower open urban research, this paper constructs a high-quality human mobility dataset by generating large-scale citizen trajectories based on massive cellular signaling data. Particularly, we first propose a heatmap diffusion module to generate a probability heatmap that produces plausible trajectories at both the individual and city scales. Then, we propose a masked trajectory AutoEncoder, which can generate individual trajectory embeddings from partially given or empty trajectories. Third, a flexible framework is provided to incorporate the heatmap diffusion module with the masked trajectory embeddings, demonstrating significant flexibility in handling both fully masked trajectories for city-wide analysis and partially masked trajectories for specific locations. We have conducted extensive experiments to validate the utility of the regenerated trajectories at both individual and region levels for various applications. Numerous case studies further illustrate that our model learns not only the distribution of the trajectories but also the semantics of different urban *** summary, this paper provides a Heatmap Diffusion framework based on a Masked Trajectory AutoEncoder to regenerate flexible trajectories for open urban research. The rapid advancement of science has underscored the importance of collaboration among scientists. While many studies have explored the structure of collaboration networks, there is a lack of comprehensive quantitative research on the temporal patterns of these collaborations. This study addresses this gap by analyzing temporal scientific collaboration networks in physics, spanning from 1960 to 2021, using complex network theories and methods. By constructing five-year temporal collaborative networks and employing metrics such as network diameter, shortest path, and clustering coefficient, this research reveals an increase in connectivity and small-world characteristics over time. Additionally, community detection highlights a shift towards specialized collaboration patterns and increased cross-community interactions. The study also uncovers growing centrality and social stratification within the research system, with the "rich club" phenomenon indicating strong and dynamic collaborations among highly connected scientists. Temporal analysis shows that while ultra-high connectivity scientists engage in fluctuating relationships, medium-high connectivity scientists maintain more stable collaborations. These findings provide insights into the evolution of collaborative behaviors and inform science policy. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Bike-Sharing Systems (BSSs) have become a popular solution to urban sustainability concerns, providing affordable and environmentally friendly transportation. However, modeling and predicting shared-bike flow patterns are essential for developing intelligent transportation systems and facilitating city management. Despite the existence of several inflow and outflow prediction models, certain unresolved issues remain, including the inability to differentiate and capture heterogeneous dynamic relationships within daily flows, and the suboptimal utilization of historical flow data for forecasting. To address these limitations, we propose MVRC (Multi-View Relational Framework based on Clustering), a novel deep-learning framework for precise inflow and outflow prediction. The MVRC framework models three types of heterogeneous dynamic flow relationships during different periods of the day. Initially, we introduce a novel clustering method to group nearby stations exhibiting similar patterns, followed by creating a dynamic memory module to store and update edge attributes based on the time of day. Furthermore, the dynamic edge fusion mechanism effectively integrates heterogeneous, time-evolving flow features, capturing their varying impacts. To further enhance the model's capabilities, an offline component that leverages historical data is incorporated, improving performance during testing. Extensive experiments conducted on real datasets from New York City and Washington, D.C., demonstrate the superior prediction efficiency and framework effectiveness of the MVRC framework compared to existing state-of-the-art techniques. These results highlight the practicality and efficacy of MVRC in terms of prediction accuracy and stability. © 2025

FedLGMatch: Federated semi-supervised learning via joint local and global pseudo labeling

The bulk of existing Federated Learning (FL) algorithms pay attention to supervised setting and assume that clients have fully labeled data. However, it may be impractical for all clients to obtain plenty of labels due to high annotation costs. Hence, the Federated Semi-Supervised Learning (FSSL) as a promising paradigm has better prospect in many realistic applications (e.g. medical scenario). Under Labels-at-Server scenario, most pseudo labeling based FSSL approaches use only the global model to generate pseudo-labels for unlabeled data, while the local models are ignored. When the local data distribution is much more different from the central server (e.g., Non-IID setting), the generated pseudo-labels may contain much noise, thus, resulting in more serious confirmation bias. To tackle the crucial issue, a novel Federated Semi-Supervised Learning via Joint Local and Global Pseudo Labeling (FedLGMatch) framework is proposed in this paper. The prominent advantage of the proposed FedLGMatch is that it allows local models trained in the last communication round to assist global model in generating pseudo-labels, which successfully emphasizes more clean pseudo-label learning at each client. Experimental results also show that FedLGMatch achieves significant performance improvements than other state-of-the-art models on the standard benchmark datasets. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

The simulations and potential forecasting of dust storms are of significant interest to public health and environment *** storms have interannual variabilities and are typical disruptive *** computing platform for a dust storm forecasting operational system should support a disruptive fashion by scaling up to enable high-resolution forecasting and massive public access when dust storms come and scaling down when no dust storm events occur to save energy and *** the capability of providing a large,elastic,and virtualized pool of computational resources,cloud computing becomes a new and advantageous computing paradigm to resolve scientific problems traditionally requiring a large-scale and high-performance *** paper examines the viability for cloud computing to support dust storm *** a holistic study by systematically comparing cloud computing using Amazon EC2 to traditional high performance computing(HPC)cluster,we find that cloud computing is emerging as a credible solution for(1)supporting dust storm forecasting in spinning off a large group of computing resources in a few minutes to satisfy the disruptive computing requirements of dust storm forecasting,(2)performing high-resolution dust storm forecasting when required,(3)supporting concurrent computing requirements,(4)supporting real dust storm event forecasting for a large geographic domain by using recent dust storm event in Phoniex,05 July 2011 as example,and(5)reducing cost by maintaining low computing support when there is no dust storm events while invoking a large amount of computing resource to perform high-resolution forecasting and responding to large amount of concurrent public accesses.

This paper introduces a novel semi-supervised neuro-fuzzy system to predict ICU admissions among post-COVID organ transplant recipients. Addressing the challenges of small sample sizes and lacking labels in organ transplantation, our study takes on these issues by proposing a DBN-Based Dual Manifold Regularized Fuzzy Broad Learning System (D-DMR-FBLS). This system utilizes the streamlined and flat architecture of the Broad Learning System (BLS), integrating Deep Belief Networks (DBN) and Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) systems to enhance representation learning capacities during the Unsupervised Training Phase (UTP). The system combines the strong feature learning capabilities of DBN with the powerful fuzzy rule extraction capacity of the TSK system, enhancing the model’s predictive performance and generalization capability. Moreover, we propose two types of graph-based manifold regularization, sample-based and feature-based, within this novel D-DMR-FBLS framework. Our method enhances its predictive ability by exploiting both the similarity among unlabeled and labeled patient samples, as well as the correlations between features within the fuzzy feature space. Employed to predict ICU admission risks in post-transplant COVID-19 patients, the method has demonstrated superior performance over existing methods, particularly in scenarios with limited samples and labels, thereby providing more accurate decision support for medical professionals in optimizing resource allocation for transplant patients. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – science and Technology Publications, Lda.

This paper presents a comprehensive examination of the current state of underrepresentation of women in computer science (CS) degrees in Spain. It offers an overview of the situation across autonomous communities in Spain, highlighting the evolving trends within the country, regional variations, and the distinctions between public and private universities. The research employs descriptive statistical methods to analyze data obtained from the Spanish Ministry of Universities, Eurostat, as well as recent literature reviews. Furthermore, the study contextualizes the evolution of female enrollments in Spain by comparing it with data from other European countries. The primary objective is to gain a thorough understanding of the broader Spanish landscape and suggest future research directions aimed at reducing the gender gap in CS studies. © 2023 IEEE.
