Demands for more storage in the industry has increased beyond that the traditional storage mechanisms can supply and thus, the concept of Storage Area Networks (SANs) has evolved. This has resulted in the design of iSCSI (Internet SCSI) protocols that have SCSI commands and allow data transfer to take place over the network. Fiber channel protocol was the first such protocol that used Gigabit per second links to carry commands over long distances. The iSCSI Protocol maps the SCSI block oriented storage data over TCP/IP and enables storage devices to be accessed over standard Ethernet based TCP/IP networks, With the development of Gigabit Ethernet and the iSCSI protocol, reduction in costs and a uniform network infrastructure can be *** offers a flexible way to study the iSCSI – based storage systems. We wish to study a storage area network, which uses iSCSI Protocol to exchange data between its various nodes. This study will help us in understanding how iSCSI works in a storage area network. We have used ns2 for our simulation work. We have simulated an iSCSI initiator and an iSCSI target, which communicate through iSCSI. iSCSI lies upon TCP Protocol. R/W requests are made by the iSCSI initiator and data exchange takes place depending on these requests. The throughput is calculated and graph is plotted.

A threshold effect of coupling delays on intra-layer synchronization in duplex networks

This paper investigates the impact of inter-layer coupling functions and intra-layer coupling delays on intra-layer synchronization regions and sychronizability. It is found that the inter-layer coupling functions have great influence on intra-layer synchronization regions, as well as on the intra-layer synchronizability. In particular, there exists an inter-layer coupling function such that the inter-layer coupling strength neither improves nor weakens the intra-layer synchronizability. Furthermore, no matter which one of three inter-layer coupling functions is chosen, a small intra-layer delay always keeps the intra-layer synchronized regions almost unchanged, implying that the small delay neither enhances nor suppresses the intra-layer synchronizability. At the same time the delay greatly frustrates the synchronizability in each layer when it is greater than some threshold. Our results may have potential applications for interconnected technological networks where communication delays are inevitably present.

Mobile ad hoc network is a collection of mobile hosts, which can communicate with each other using wireless interfaces and can also dynamically form a network topology where each node can act as router to forwarding the packets to other nodes. These networks are in high demand due to the ease and speed in setting up such networks. Due to the inherent vulnerabilities of wireless medium and node mobility make such network highly susceptible to malicious attacks. Things are getting worst when some nodes getting hijacked or compromised and make this network to stop from the smooth workings. This paper proposes the host based intrusion detection architecture to identify the malicious node and provide security support to continue the smooth workings of this network.

The World Wide Web is an interlinked collection of billions of documents formatted using HTML. Ironically the very size of this collection has become an obstacle for information retrieval. The user has to shift through scores of pages to come upon the information he/she desires. Web crawlers are the heart of search engines. Web crawlers continuously keep on crawling the web and find any new web pages that have been added to the web, pages that have been removed from the web. Due to growing and dynamic nature of the web; it has become a challenge to traverse all URLs in the web documents and to handle these URLs. A focused crawler is an agent that targets a particular topic and visits and gathers only relevant web pages. In this dissertation I had worked on design and working of web crawler that can be used for copyright infringement. We will take one seed URL as input and search with a keyword, the searching result is based on keyword and it will fetch the web pages where it will find that keyword. This focused based crawler approach retrieve documents that contain particular keyword from the user's query; we are implementing this using breadth-first search. Now, when we retrieved the web pages we will apply pattern recognition over text. We will give one file as input and apply the pattern recognition algorithms. Here, pattern symbolizes text only and check how much text is available on the web page. The algorithms that I had used for pattern search are Knutt-Morri-Pratt, Boyer-Moore, finite automata algorithm.

This paper describes the design & development of small Linux operating system for browser based digital set top box. A set-top box is a device that enables a television set to receive and decode digital television (DTV) broadcasts and also enables a television set to become a user interface to access the Internet. A Small Linux root file system having all necessary basic files which are needed for booting the system in graphical user interface is customized in such a way that it supports direct to home (DTH) digital TV and a small size open source Web Browser. These customizations and developments are very specific to Digital TV services like watching free to air TV channels, recording of programs, broadcast a TV channel over local area network as a server and request for video on demand (VOD) as a client, more over it will support Internet Web Browser, USB, LAN connectivity and IR sensor for remote control. The current dynamics in this work will bring in the major changes in the user experience of watching digital television and surfing Internet on television.

Secured Hashing Algorithms are used to ensure the integrity and authenticity of data and data origin in order to achieve higher level of security. A proposed design for SHA-2 hashing functions (SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512) are implemented with fully iterative and pipelined architecture using Verilog HDL. For every hashing operation, throughput per slice plays a major role in optimized hardware design. In order to improve throughput per slice, the proposed design uses a Round Pipelined Technique (RPT) in hash functions. The SHA-2 algorithm outputs a message digest / hash of size 224, 256, 384 and 512-bits. Proposed research investigates optimization techniques in terms of area and frequency for SHA-2 hash functions on the FPGA and achieves higher throughput per slice. The proposed architecture is implemented on Xilinx Virtex-6 xc6vlx550t-2ff1759 FPGA device. Further, the fully iterative and Round Pipelined Technique based architectures are compared in terms of frequency and throughput per slice with other known published results. The proposed design for SHA-256 and SHA-512 with Round Pipelined Technique exhibits throughput per slice improvement of 57% and 17% respectively than other implementations.

Facial feature detection and extraction plays a significant role in face recognition. In this paper, we proposed a new approach for face feature description using support vector machine classifier. Searching image from the image contents is a major challenge in computer vision and pattern recognition. The textual label is assigned to the face feature according to the semantic meaning of the feature. The concept of the textual image description gives advantages to the user to search the image with the help of the visual attributes of the image. The face features like eyes, nose, mouth are labeled with the visual attributes like small, normal and large.

With ever growing threat of cyber terrorism, vulnerability of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems is the most common subject for most security researchers now. Attacks on SCADA systems are increasing and its impact needs to be studied to implement proper counter measures. Many of the SCADA systems are relatively insecure with chronic and pervasive vulnerabilities. This paper explains possible vulnerabilities present in SCADA systems and also present the impact analysis of Denial of Service (DoS) by modeling attack using influence diagram. Simulation of DoS attacks will help in analyzing and accessing the security of SCADA system and also used to analyze the impact. Experiments have been conducted on RTU by targeting “availability” of the system, results have been analyzed and impact has been studied.

Large-scale graphs usually exhibit global sparsity with local cohesiveness,and mining the representative cohesive subgraphs is a fundamental problem in graph *** k-truss is one of the most commonly studied cohesive subgraphs,in which each edge is formed in at least k 2 triangles.A critical issue in mining a k-truss lies in the computation of the trussness of each edge,which is the maximum value of k that an edge can be in a *** works mostly focus on truss computation in static graphs by sequential ***,the graphs are constantly changing dynamically in the real *** study distributed truss computation in dynamic graphs in this *** particular,we compute the trussness of edges based on the local nature of the k-truss in a synchronized node-centric distributed *** decomposing the trussness of edges by relying only on local topological information is possible with the proposed distributed decomposition ***,the distributed maintenance algorithm only needs to update a small amount of dynamic information to complete the *** experiments have been conducted to show the scalability and efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

Grid computing is a collaborative e-infrastructure to solve large multidisciplinary problems having interrelated demands of data, compute, scientific instruments and increased importance of collaboration. Grid is a distributed system which enables sharing, selection, and aggregation of heterogeneous geographically distributed autonomous resources dynamically depending on their availability, capability, performance, and users QoS requirements. Validating such a vast system has additional complexities of heterogeneity, multiple administrative policies, and issues of multi-layer software interactions. GARUDA is the Indian National Grid computing Initiative connecting over 65 partnering institutes across 30 cities of India and aggregating over 70TF-15TB Compute-Storage power. The authors present the software engineering challenges and validation methodologies for GARUDA, to make it a production level grid. Integrated validation of GARUDA through Application testing, Health Monitoring, Middleware-Software testing, Performance benchmarking and Stress testing are described.
