We present new local-memory multiprocessor algorithms for solving sparse triangular systems of equations that arise in the context of Cholesky factorization. Unlike in the existing algorithms, we use the notion of the elimination tree and achieve significant improvement in the performance of both the forward and backward substitution phases. Our algorithms also incorporate the generalization of an important technique of Li and Coleman that gave rise to the best performance for dense triangular system solution.

This paper presents a chat application that make use of speech as interaction mode between users in their mother tongue. This system is based on Machine Translation (MT) which automatically translates a sentence from one language to other. Now-a-days, Chat has become increasingly important as an effective means to communicate in social networks. But in existing personal chat systems, chat services are text-based only. To circumvent this issue, innovative, practical XMPP-based chat system architecture is proposed in this paper that creates a Speech based chat services by integrating state-of-the-art technologies like Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Text to Speech (TTS) and Machine Translation (MT). The proposed system eliminates the need to have a common language for chat communication. In this chat system the user speak in their own language after selecting the language of their comfort. The audio will be recognized in real time. The text is translated to the language opted by end user and the system synthesizes it. Here, we discuss an interface prototype that can overcome the language barrier to some extent. © 2015 IEEE.

Malware Crimes are ubiquitous nowadays. One of the challenges faced by Cyber Forensics Investigators is to retrieve the details of a suspicious program, which might be malware, from a computer. Another challenge is that anti-forensics techniques are often adopted by criminals after committing cybercrimes to hide the presence of suspicious programs and their associated details. In such cases, footprints of the suspicious programs and the related details may be deleted or overwritten from the Suspect's computer. This paper presents a detailed procedure to reconstruct or retrieve crucial information related to those suspicious programs from various sources on a Windows Computer. This type of analysis reveals the traces of these programs from their remnants available on a computer. This paper describes methodologies for examining the storage media as well as random access memory content of the Suspect's computer to retrieve such footprints. It also includes the steps for analyzing various Windows 10 artefacts that may hold the footprints of malware even after it is deleted or overwritten from the original location. The paper also explains the results of experiments conducted to identify the traces of suspicious executables which are deleted or still existing on the Computer. © 2020 IEEE.

On-line handwriting recognition means recognizing the user's handwriting as the user is writing the character/stroke, i.e. the recognition is concurrent to the writing process. This paper describes a Multilingual Online handwriting recognition system in Android using SFAM Artificial Neural Network Technique. The app allows the user to select any of the target languages supported. The handwriting sequences are collected by the digitization of the pen/stylus movements as an array of x, y coordinates which is called a stroke. The structural and directional information are extracted from each character/stroke. The extracted features as a feature vector are passed as input to a SFAM artificial neural network (ANN) classifier. The SFAM classifier then performs a comparison of the input data with the trained data and finds the nearest prototype from the database that 'resonates' with the input pattern. The labels/recognized characters are assigned their corresponding Unicode code points and displayed using appropriate fonts. © 2015 IEEE.

Iris recognition is seen as a highly reliable biometric technology. The performance of iris recognition is severely impacted when encountering irises captured in realistic conditions. The selection of the features subset and the classification is an important issue for iris biometrics. In this paper we propose new methods for feature extraction and template creation during enrollment to improve the performance of iris recognition systems. The experiments are based on storing i) multiple templates (template group) for a user ii) Single template by taking average mean of multiple templates iii) Single template calculated from multiple templates using Direct Linear Discriminant Analysis (DLDA). We used CASIA Iris Interval database for our experiments. Experiments report significant improvement in the performance of iris recognition. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.

Web application performance plays vital role in application usability and adaptability to its intended users. There are many factors, which attributes towards overall performance enhancements. One of them is that how efficiently a web application under peak load stores or retrieves the webattached documents. In this paper, we have described a document storage and retrieval technique for improving web application performance. A technique suggested for the document storage purpose is based on the verification of results performed with various types and sizes of document attachments. Statistics based on research reveals that India has approximately ninety million people with varying degrees of Learning Disabilities (LD) and an average class in schools has about five students with learning disabilities. Epidemiological studies of learning disabilities in India are burdened by problems ranging from identification, assessment, to socio-cultural factors unique to India. Therefore, it is believed that number of children with LD may be much larger than five to a class of fifty students. Hence it is necessary for us to develop suitable technologies to assist the education of these learning disabilities children. This paper presents a PROTYPE called Interactive Text book for assisting students with learning disability. Here the book will be same as normal text book with out any special markers and identifiers. Once the children focus on a text, the 3D images, audio and videos that explains the text more graphically will be augmented on that page. This enhances the students understanding and makes the learning process easier for them. © 2013 IEEE.

Periocular recognition is an emerging field of research and people have experimented with some feature extraction techniques to extract robust and unique features from the periocular region. In this paper, we propose a novel feature extraction approach to use periocular region as a biometric trait. In this approach we first applied Local Binary Patterns (LBPs) to extract the texture information from the periocular region of the image and then applied Direct Linear Discriminant Analysis (DLDA) to produce discriminative low-dimensional feature vectors. The approach is evaluated on the UBIRIS v2 database and we achieved 94% accuracy which is a significant improvement in the performance of periocular recognition. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.

Intentionally inflicting injury on another individual, whether physical, psychological, or financial, is a crime. It is a widespread and complex societal problem that has an impact on people's quality of life, economic progress, and national prestige. Many scholars have studied the rise in criminality in recent years, as various social, economic, and environmental developments happened in all parts of the world as a result of increased urbanization, with governors facing even greater issues. Focus has been placed on improving urban transportation, health, and public safety. The conventional crime rate conveys the information about the number of occurrences recorded by the police for a certain population. It's a measure of how many incidents of criminal activity were reported to the authorities. The rate is determined by dividing the total number of crimes reported to and investigated by law enforcement agencies by the population at large. The rate accounts for all crimes equally, regardless of category or severity. For instance, one murder is equivalent to one rape. Here, the crime index value is calculated which is very important for crime analysis. With the help of the Crime Index, the user can easily visualize the increase or decrease in the crime rate as recorded by the police. It achieves so by not considering the change in volume of a certain crime, but also the severity of that crime in contrast to other crimes © 2022 IEEE.

With the pace of high cutting-edge technical solutions, the ease of availability and affordability are the parameters which affect the accessibility of it to the general mass. This motivated us for a handy real-time analysis of human cognitive state using smartphones. In a technology-driven society, it is very important to measure and predict meaningful brain signals in real time. As electroencephalograph (EEG) represents a solution that has high temporal resolution, it becomes a useful tool for society. One such application is to understand that attention is useful for learning and relaxation is useful for health. This research paper provides a framework that gives insight into mobile-based real-time mental state visualization along with levels of attention and relaxation. The framework is built with an Indian-made, eight-channel EEG device (neuphony). This is the first study to show a brain-mobile interface for omnipresent, prevalent computing. We eventually construct a sophisticated mobile-based EEG monitoring system by combining signal processing algorithm with an Android mobile application and we verify its effectiveness using real-time EEG data. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
