Wind speed (WS) has played a vital role in local urban and sub-urban weather, agriculture, and ecosystem. Several meteorological parameters are influencing WS such as relative humidity (at 2 m, %), surface pressure (kPa), maximum temperature (at 2 m, °C), minimum temperature (at 2 m, °C), average temperature (at 2 m, °C), and all sky insolation incident on a horizontal surface (kW-h/m2/day). The current research was conducted to predict WS at different locations at Vietnam using the feasibility of computer aid models (i.e., multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and random forest generator (Ranger)). Pearson correlation (PC) was investigated to select the high significant predictors to predict the WS at 10 m high. All inputs (maximum number, 6) are chosen by the PC approach for PhuongNinh, DaNang, and HaNoi;and for minimum number of inputs i.e four, are selected for PhuongHung, CanTho, and SaPa city;that exhibit the relationship with WS, citywise. The sequence selection of input parameters differed in each station as per the PC analysis. Based on the statistical evaluation and graphical presentation, MARS model attained the best prediction results, followed by XGBoost and Ranger. MARS predictive model remains at the top performance among others based on 95% confidence interval. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Imagined speech production with electrocorticography (ECoG) plays a crucial role in brain-computer interface system. A challenging issue is the great variation underlying the frequency bands of the ECoG signals’ encode information, which makes current methods difficult to generate imagined speech with stable quality among different persons. To this end, we propose a robust model to generate high-quality imagined speech from ECoG. A frequency enhancement branch is first designed to adaptively modulate the frequency information, whose product is fed into the following multi-scale channel attention module for robust feature extraction and fusion. By incorporating both the mel-spectrum and audio as training constraints, a multi-constraint decoder branch is finally constructed for imagined speech production. The performance of our model is evaluated on a high-quality dateset, i.e, Single Word Production Dutch-iBIDS. It yields Pearson correlation scores that are all above 0.8, and the standard deviationsare are all below 0.2 in different volunteers. experimental results demonstrate that our model is effective and robust for ECoG based imagined speech production, and has advantages over peer methods.

Leveraging GPT-4 for Food Effect Summarization to Enhance Product-Specific Guidance Development via Iterative Prompting

Food effect summarization from New Drug Application (NDA) is an essential component of product-specific guidance (PSG) development and assessment, which provides the basis of recommendations for fasting and fed bioequivalence studies to guide the pharmaceutical industry for developing generic drug products. However, manual summarization of food effect from extensive drug application review documents is time-consuming. Therefore, there is a need to develop automated methods to generate food effect summary. Recent advances in natural language processing (NLP), particularly large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and GPT-4, have demonstrated great potential in improving the effectiveness of automated text summarization, but its ability with regard to the accuracy in summarizing food effect for PSG assessment remains unclear. In this study, we introduce a simple yet effective approach, iterative prompting, which allows one to interact with ChatGPT or GPT-4 more effectively and efficiently through multi-turn interaction. Specifically, we propose a three-turn iterative prompting approach to food effect summarization in which the keyword-focused and length-controlled prompts are respectively provided in consecutive turns to refine the quality of the generated summary. We conduct a series of extensive evaluations, ranging from automated metrics to FDA professionals and even evaluation by GPT-4, on 100 NDA review documents selected over the past five years. We observe that the summary quality is progressively improved throughout the iterative prompting process. Moreover, we find that GPT-4 performs better than ChatGPT, as evaluated by FDA professionals (43% vs. 12%) and GPT-4 (64% vs. 35%). Importantly, all the FDA professionals unanimously rated that 85% of the summaries generated by GPT-4 are factually consistent with the golden reference summary, a finding further supported by GPT-4 rating of 72% consistency. Cloud computing enables remote execution of users' tasks. The pervasive adoption of cloud computing in smart cities' services and applications requires timely execution of tasks adhering to Quality of Services (QoS). However, the increasing use of computing servers exacerbates the issues of high energy consumption, operating costs, and environmental pollution. Maximizing the performance and minimizing the energy in the cloud data center is challenging. In this paper, we propose a performance and energy optimization bi-objective algorithm to trade off the contradicting performance and energy objectives. An evolutionary algorithm-based multi-objective optimization is for the first time proposed using system performance counters. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated using a realistic cloud dataset in a cloud computing environment. Our experimental results achieve higher performance and lower energy consumption compared to a state-of-the-art algorithm. © 2021 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Smart connected healthcare is an emerging technology in the context of smart cities. The connected network aims to provide efficient and effective remote patient care. In such scenarios, edge and clouds come into the picture to offload computation from sensors and mobile devices, monitoring patient's health conditions, having limited processing capabilities to the edge and/or the cloud. The problem of optimizing the energy consumption of the edge and cloud servers in this offloading scenario is crucial. However, existing research efforts focus on sensors or cloud energy optimization. They do not consider the edge and cloud as part of the offloading strategy. In this paper, we address this void by proposing a novel energy-aware offloading algorithm for smart connected healthcare, which optimizes the energy of the edge-cloud computing platform for compute-intensive applications. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm is a promising approach to energy savings. © 2021 IEEE.

Renewable energy is gaining wide attention to address the issues, such as depleting resources and environmental degradation, linked with the current non-renewable energy. However, storing renewable energy is challenging. Consequently, energy trading is required to transfer the surplus amount of renewable energy from the prosumers to the consumers. The current centralized energy trading system is less secure and involves large transmission losses and high overheads. The decentralization, replication, immutability, and transparency characteristics of blockchain show a promising potential to address the inherent issues of centralized energy trading. However, the existing blockchain-based energy trading suffers from the drawbacks such as limited scalability, high energy loss, and low transaction throughput. In this paper, we propose a secure and privacy-preserving lightweight blockchain for energy trading that reduces the computational and communication overhead compared to the bitcoin network. This is by clustering the prosumers and perform the energy trading through a cluster head. Our experimental results show the potential of our architecture. © 2021 IEEE.

Edge-cloud computing is an emerging computational model that allows offloading of service requests by the autonomous mobile agents from the edge-server to the cloud-server. This is to reduce the network latency prevalent in the cloud-IoT model. However, Quality-of-Service (QoS)-Aware computation offloading in a heterogeneous and dynamic edge-cloud environment remains an open problem. In this paper, we propose a queuing theory-based edge-cloud computing framework for QoS-aware offloading in mobile autonomous agents. This framework model decides whether to execute an incoming request to the edge-server on the edge itself or to offload to one of the heterogeneous cloud servers such that the request’s execution time is the minimum. To model a request’s execution time, we consider the processing capabilities and the queues overheads of the edge and cloud servers, and the edge-cloud communications’ time. The details of the evaluation results, using dataset generated from real-life scenarios, are presented in the paper. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Graph Structure Learning (GSL) has recently garnered considerable attention due to its ability to optimize both the parameters of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and the computation graph structure simultaneously. Despite the proliferation of GSL methods developed in recent years, there is no standard experimental setting or fair comparison for performance evaluation, which creates a great obstacle to understanding the progress in this field. To fill this gap, we systematically analyze the performance of GSL in different scenarios and develop a comprehensive Graph Structure Learning Benchmark (GSLB) curated from 20 diverse graph datasets and 16 distinct GSL algorithms. Specifically, GSLB systematically investigates the characteristics of GSL in terms of three dimensions: effectiveness, robustness, and complexity. We comprehensively evaluate state-of-the-art GSL algorithms in node- and graph-level tasks, and analyze their performance in robust learning and model complexity. Further, to facilitate reproducible research, we have developed an easy-to-use library for training, evaluating, and visualizing different GSL methods. Empirical results of our extensive experiments demonstrate the ability of GSL and reveal its potential benefits on various downstream tasks, offering insights and opportunities for future research.
