In the digital era, data communication security is one of the main challenges. This research proposes a new method for secure image communication, which is a mixed triple logistic map and BB84 quantum key distribution. This approach combines the strengths of classical and quantum cryptographic systems to improve security. BB84 quantum key distribution protocol for securely distributing encryption keys. The resulting key is then processed into a hash value using the SHA-256 algorithm. These hash values are converted into ASCII values, which are used to generate three key sequences using the modified logistic map. The three key sequences are combined to form a keystream used in image encryption. Several security metrics are used to evaluate encryption security, including entropy, the Chi-Square test, and pixel correlation. The analysis results show that the encrypted image has an entropy close to eight. In addition, all chi-square values smaller than 293 indicate a uniform distribution. The correlation of nearby pixels in the encrypted image is also very low, where all values are less than 0.01, which indicates the loss of local patterns in the encrypted image. These results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively secures image communications, providing high security and resistance to conventional and quantum cryptographic attacks.

The GakuNin LMS operated by the National Institute of informatics (NII) provides an information security teaching course called "Princess Rin-Rin's security column". Gunma University extensively encourages students, faculty members, and staff to take this course. In this paper, we have classified the participants who took this course at Gunma University in the first semester of 2022 according to their course status and the results of the final test. Hierarchical clustering and K-means clustering, which are unsupervised learning methods, were used for the classification. The course status was classified into eight clusters, and the result of the final test was into four clusters. We have identified the most excellent cluster of the final test by investigating the clusters where the participants complete the final test with fewer attempts and in a shorter period of time. Furthermore, we have identified clusters of course status that include relatively good participants compared to the overall average using the relation between the clusters of course status and the clusters of final tests. © 2023 The Authors. This paper presents a novel method for estimating the states of upstream networks by analyzing TCP flows at key traffic aggregation points in home and enterprise environments. Utilizing a machine learning framework that incorporates frequency domain features from RTT time series, we conducted a preliminary evaluation on a simulated virtual network. The results demonstrate the method’s capability to accurately classify the network state of a single flow within a basic model. Our findings suggest the method’s potential for broader application in network state estimation.

Neural embedding of beliefs reveals the role of relative dissonance in human decision-making

Beliefs serve as the foundation for human cognition and decision-making. They guide individuals in deriving meaning from their lives, shaping their behaviors, and forming social connections. Therefore, a model that encapsulates beliefs and their interrelationships is crucial for quantitatively studying the influence of beliefs on our actions. Despite its importance, research on the interplay between human beliefs has often been limited to a small set of beliefs pertaining to specific issues, with a heavy reliance on surveys or experiments. Here, we propose a method for extracting nuanced relations between thousands of beliefs by leveraging large-scale user participation data from an online debate platform and mapping these beliefs to an embedding space using a fine-tuned large language model (LLM). This belief embedding space effectively encapsulates the interconnectedness of diverse beliefs as well as polarization across various social issues. We discover that the positions within this belief space predict new beliefs of individuals. Furthermore, we find that the relative distance between one's existing beliefs and new beliefs can serve as a quantitative estimate of cognitive dissonance, allowing us to predict new beliefs. Our study highlights how modern LLMs, when combined with collective online records of human beliefs, can offer insights into the fundamental principles that govern human belief formation and decision-making processes. © 2024, CC BY.

Image Scenario classification is widespread for many IoT applications. Classifying scenario helps in making proper decisions. The study aims at classifying six different scenarios using a deep neural network algorithm. The proposed InceptionV3 classification algorithm could predict the scenarios and achieve 92.00% accuracy. A quick comparison is shown with the traditional machine learning algorithms, SVM and MLP. The study shows the power of the deep neural algorithm and classifies the scene image dataset with higher precision.

Design Thinking (DT) has become a fundamental tool for innovation and software quality improvement since it focuses on the user experience with approaches that provide for multidisciplinarity, prototyping, and stakeholder active collaboration. This paper aims to present a set of evidence in the software development context that employs Design Thinking concepts and practices in their activities, i.e., identifying tools, models, practices, and challenges experienced through DT in development teams. Thus, as methodology, through a set of steps guided by the research protocol, this research carried out a systematic mapping using three scientific bases, IEEE, ACM, and SCOPUS, which after verification and analysis of the results, 86 primary studies were worked on. These results can help practitioners and researchers in the area to better understand the challenges and implement more effective solutions to improve their tasks in software development using design thinking approaches. They also provide a mapping of the research about design thinking in software development, identifying areas where further research is needed. © 2023 IEEE.

We propose a bond-percolation model intended to describe the consumption, and eventual exhaustion, of resources in transport networks. Edges forming minimum-length paths connecting demanded origin-destination nodes are removed if below a certain budget. As pairs of nodes are demanded and edges are removed, the macroscopic connected component of the graph disappears, i.e., the graph undergoes a percolation transition. Here, we study such a shortest-path-percolation transition in homogeneous random graphs where pairs of demanded origin-destination nodes are randomly generated, and fully characterize it by means of finite-size scaling analysis. If budget is finite, the transition is identical to the one of ordinary percolation, where a single giant cluster shrinks as edges are removed from the graph;for infinite budget, the transition becomes more abrupt than the one of ordinary percolation, being characterized by the sudden fragmentation of the giant connected component into a multitude of clusters of similar size. Data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia show that millions of hectares were burned by fires in Indonesia with 2015 being the greatest incidence in the last of ten years. Therefore, a research is required to examine the distribution pattern of hotspots for forest fires. This study used Chronnet to display the clustering of forest fire hotspot data in the Wallacea Region (North Maluku) between 2012 and 2022. The NASA FIRMS provided the MODIS data used in the study. Several findings have been made from the implemented Chronnet method. The degree of connectivity map shows a medium degree which suggests that the North Maluku frequently experiences forest and land fires of a moderate intensity. The strength map shows a complex pattern of fire activity, with high-intensity flames creating major concerns in some, particularly in West Halmahera Regency and low to moderate fire events occurring in most other places. The results from the Chronnet cluster show that most fires occurred in production forests, indicating the need for stronger fire prevention and regulations. While protected forests had fewer incidents, there are still several clusters that require attention. Additionally, the frequent fires in non-forest areas emphasize the need for better land-use planning and coordination. Finally, although conservation forests remained unaffected, it is crucial for the government to prioritize maintaining this record. © 2024 IEEE.

Software systems often encounter various errors or exceptions in practice, and thus proper error handling code is essential to ensure the reliability of software systems. Unfortunately, error handling code is often bug-prone, while sufficiently testing them is challenging as such code often cannot be triggered under normal conditions. Motivated by this, recent studies have proposed to leverage software fault injection (SFI) based fuzzing to discover potential bugs in complicated error handling code. Despite the promising results achieved, their effectiveness and efficiency are still compromised in practice due to the huge search space of error sites, inadequate fuzzing guidance, and the overhead induced by context-sensitive SFI. To achieve effective and efficient testing of error handling code, this study presents AFL-FI, which first utilizes a similarity-based method to identify suspicious error sites, and then incorporates the idea of error site coverage to guide the fuzzing process. Finally, the design of lightweight context-sensitive SFI enables AFL-FI to execute test cases efficiently. We evaluate AFL-FI on eight large-scale open-source projects, and the results show that it can outperform existing state-of-the-art fuzzing tools significantly in terms of branch code coverage. More importantly, AFL-FI has discovered 13 previously unknown bugs, and all of them have been confirmed while 12 of them have been fixed. Besides, our evaluation also demonstrates that all the key designs of AFL-F I are effective that contribute significantly to its overall performance. © 2024 IEEE.

This article is concerned with a new optimization problem named 'phase change rate maximization' for single-input-single-output linear time-invariant systems. The problem relates to two control problems, namely robust instability analysis against stable perturbations and minimum-norm strong stabilization. We define an index of the instability margin called 'robust instability radius (RIR)' as the smallest H∞-norm of a stable perturbation that stabilizes a given unstable system. This article has two main contributions. It is first shown that the problem of finding the exact RIR via the small-gain condition can be transformed into the problem of maximizing the phase change rate at the peak frequency with a phase constraint. Then, we show that the maximum is attained by a constant or a first-order all-pass function and derive conditions, under which the RIR can be exactly characterized, in terms of the phase change rate. Two practical applications are provided to illustrate the utility of our results. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
