In this paper,the asynchronous controller problem is considered for Markov jump systems(MJSs) subject to actuator *** asynchronous phenomenon between the controller and the plant is addressed by introducing a hidden Markov model and the closed-loop hidden MJSs are *** on the closed-loop hidden MJSs and using convex hull technique and linear matrix inequality technique,a controller design algorithm is derived to ensure that the closed-loop hidden MJSs satisfy the stochastic ***,a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed asynchronous controller design algorithm.

This paper proposes an overall design scheme of Line-of-sight(LOS) tracking control for the integrated satellite system with vibration isolation platform(VIP) and control moment gyroscopes(CMGs). First, the three-axis attitude and motion trajectory are established for tracking the on-orbit dynamic target. To improve the accuracy and stability of target tracking, the VIP is applied to isolate CMGs micro vibration, and then controller parameters of integrated satellite system are synthetically designed based on the classical control theory. Subsequently, the effectiveness of the control scheme is verified by frequency and time domain simulation. The numerical examples show that the tracking accuracy can be increased by 80% and the stability can be improved by two orders of magnitude after adding VIP in the presence of the sample time of controller and the rotor static and dynamic imbalance.

Recently, the electrical switching of antiferromagnetic (AFM) order has been intensively investigated because of its application potential in data storage technology. Herein, we report the current switching of the AFM Néel vector in epitaxial Pd/CoO films as a function of temperature. Using combined measurements of Hall resistance (HR) and x-ray magnetic linear dichroism (XMLD) below and above the AFM Néel temperature, we unambiguously identified both magnetic and nonmagnetic contributions to the current-induced HR change. Through magnetic field-induced HR measurements, we quantitatively determined the percentage of current-induced CoO spin switching. Further, we showed that the thermal effect dominated the CoO magnetic switching more in samples with a thinner Pd layer and that samples with a thicker CoO layer required higher thermal activation for current-induced magnetic switching. These results provide a clear and comprehensive picture of current-induced AFM spin switching across the AFM Néel temperature.

ScalaBFS: A scalable BFS accelerator on HBM-enhanced FPGAs

High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) provides massive aggregated memory bandwidth by exposing multiple memory channels to the processing units. To achieve high performance, an accelerator built on top of an FPGA configured with HBM (i.e., FPGA-HBM platform) needs to scale its performance according to the available memory channels. In this paper, we propose an accelerator for BFS (Breadth-First Search) algorithm, named as ScalaBFS, that builds multiple processing elements to sufficiently exploit the high bandwidth of HBM to improve efficiency. We implement the prototype system of ScalaBFS and conduct BFS in both real-world and synthetic scale-free graphs on Xilinx Alveo U280 FPGA card real hardware. The experimental results show that ScalaBFS scales its performance almost linearly according to the available memory pseudo channels (PCs) from the HBM2 subsystem of U280. By fully using the 32 PCs and building 64 processing elements (PEs) on U280, ScalaBFS achieves a performance up to 19.7 GTEPS (Giga Traversed Edges Per Second). When conducting BFS in sparse real-world graphs, ScalaBFS achieves equivalent GTEPS to Gunrock running on the state-of-art Nvidia V100 GPU that features 64-PC HBM2 (twice memory bandwidth than U280). Organic waste pollution is a severe environmental and human health issue that needs to be addressed urgently. Photocatalysis has emerged as an effective method for removing contaminants from organic wastes. Porous metal oxides derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely developed and applied to organic waste degradation processes. This study successfully synthesized p-n heterojunction NiO-ZnO doped with carbon and nitrogen using Ni-ZIF-8 as a template through a two-step calcination process. The inert atmosphere preserved the carbon and nitrogen contents present in Ni-ZIF-8, resulting in carbon- and nitrogen-doped NiO-ZnO. The presence of the p-n heterojunction system and carbon and nitrogen doping was confirmed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and optical characterization. Carbon and nitrogen-doped NiO-ZnO exhibit broad light absorption, low recombination rates, and low charge resistance, which are beneficial for methylene blue (MB) degradation. Specifically, C, N-NiO(20)-ZnO demonstrated the best MB degradation performance, achieving ~100% degradation within 150 min and maintaining high stability over four cycles. Scavenger tests indicated that •OH played a crucial role in MB degradation. This research provides new insights into the synergistic effect of the p-n heterojunction system and carbon and nitrogen doping to enhance the degradation performance of organic waste. © 2024, The Authors. Recent progress in material data mining has been driven by high-capacity models trained on large ***,collecting experimental data(real data)has been extremely costly owing to the amount of human effort and expertise ***,we develop a novel transfer learning strategy to address problems of small or insufficient *** strategy realizes the fusion of real and simulated data and the augmentation of training data in a data mining *** a specific task of grain instance image segmentation,this strategy aims to generate synthetic data by fusing the images obtained from simulating the physical mechanism of grain formation and the“image style”information in real *** results show that the model trained with the acquired synthetic data and only 35%of the real data can already achieve competitive segmentation performance of a model trained on all of the real *** the time required to perform grain simulation and to generate synthetic data are almost negligible as compared to the effort for obtaining real data,our proposed strategy is able to exploit the strong prediction power of deep learning without significantly increasing the experimental burden of training data preparation.

The growing global population challenges the food industry to ensure it remains safe for consumption. Food waste caused by imbalances between production and handling creates significant economic, environmental, and social risks. However, packaging technology innovation has emerged as a powerful tool, offering a solution by extending shelf life and maintaining food product quality. Consumers' increasing interest in eco-friendly packaging has driven research into renewable materials and low-toxicity bioactive components. Gallic acid, a promising phenolic compound, holds potential for food preservation and sustainable packaging development. Its antibacterial and antifungal properties against resistant microbes and biofilm formation, its ability to prevent lipid and protein oxidation, and its potential as a color indicator for monitoring food freshness all contribute to food preservation. Its incorporation into edible polymers offers a strategy for innovative edible packaging. Depending on the dosage and material composition, loading gallic acid within the polymer matrix can improve packaging properties, including UV barrier, mechanical strength, and water vapor and oxygen permeability. This article reviews the potential of gallic acid for developing biodegradable, active, intelligent, and edible packaging. Future directions include evaluating gallic acid's toxicity, dispersion within the matrix, pro-oxidative activity, compatibility with biodegradable polymers (especially those derived from agricultural by-products), migration into food products, and stability under different environmental conditions. The sustainability perspective (environment, economic, and social) is also discussed. © 2024 The Authors

Interdisciplinary Papers Supported by Disciplinary Grants Garner Deep and Broad Scientific Impact

Interdisciplinary research has emerged as a hotbed for innovation and a key approach to addressing complex societal challenges1-7. The increasing dominance of grant-supported research in shaping scientific advances8-16, coupled with growing interest in funding interdisciplinary work2,7,14,17-20, raises fundamental questions about the effectiveness of interdisciplinary grants in fostering high-impact interdisciplinary research outcomes. Here, we quantify the interdisciplinarity of both research grants and publications, capturing 350,000 grants from 164 funding agencies across 26 countries and 1.3 million papers that acknowledged their support from 1985 to 2009. Our analysis uncovers two seemingly contradictory patterns: Interdisciplinary grants tend to produce interdisciplinary papers, which are generally associated with high impact. However, compared to disciplinary grants, interdisciplinary grants on average yield fewer papers and interdisciplinary papers they support tend to have substantially reduced impact. We demonstrate that the key to explaining this paradox lies in the power of disciplinary grants in propelling high-impact interdisciplinary research. Specifically, our results show that highly interdisciplinary papers supported by deeply disciplinary grants garner disproportionately more citations, both within their core disciplines and from broader fields. Moreover, disciplinary grants, particularly when combined with other similar grants, are more effective in producing high-impact interdisciplinary research. Amidst the rapid rise of support for interdisciplinary work across the sciences, these results highlight the hitherto unknown role of disciplinary grants in driving crucial interdisciplinary advances, suggesting that interdisciplinary research requires deep disciplinary expertise and investments. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.
