educational recommender systems are increasingly becoming a core feature of modern educational systems. Often the recommender component of a system is tightly integrated, or might be remotely located without accessing data from other local systems This paper proposes a framework called ECLAIR in which local educational systems can work and share data with a global recommender system that spans multiple educational institutions. In particular an Al-driven recommendation system is intricately integrated within a multi-node learning management system. Situated at the intersection of large-scale data analysis and personalized education, ECLAIR efficiently processes heterogeneous data from diverse LMS, while ensuring data security and privacy. The proposed ECLAIR's architecture, data pipeline, and processing mechanisms are explored in detail, focusing on its seamless integration with the existing infrastructure. By leveraging MongoDB change streams and relational databases, ECLAIR guarantees real-time data synchronization, secure storage, and efficient processing. Its unique Ingestor tool transforms selected xAPI data points into a relational table format, bolstering system functionality. The successful launch of ECLAIR serves as a testament to the potential of Al in enhancing personalized learning experiences, improving data security, and bolstering system efficiency. Nevertheless the paper emphasizes the need for ongoing research, specifically concerning privacy-preserving mechanisms and efficient management of data heterogeneity. It demonstrates ECLAIRs pivotal role in the rapidly evolving landscape of eLearning and its potential for future advancements, scalability, and adaptability, setting a new precedent for Al-powered eLearning recommendation systems. © 2023 Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in education.

data-driven platforms with rich data and learning analytics applications provide immense opportunities to support collaborative learning such as algorithmic group formation systems based on learning logs. However, teachers can still get overwhelmed since they have to manually set the parameters to create groups and it takes time to understand the meaning of each indicator. Therefore, it is imperative to explore predictive indicators for algorithmic group formation to release teachers from the dilemma with explainable group formation indicators and recommended settings based on group work purposes. Employing learning logs of group work from a reading-based university course, this study examines how learner indicators from different dimensions before the group work connect to the subsequent group work processes and consequences attributes through correlation analysis. Results find that the reading engagement and previous peer ratings can reveal individual achievement of the group work, and a homogeneous grouping strategy based on reading annotations and previous group work experience can predict desirable group performance for this learning context. In addition, it also proposes the potential of automatic group formation with recommended parameter settings that leverage the results of predictive indicators. © (2023). All Rights Reserved.

Revisit the γ-Ray Flare Associated with Blazar Mrk 421

A Very High-energy(VHE) flare was observed by Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov Telescopes on MJD 57788. This VHE flare was characterized by increased VHE flux and short timescales. In this study, we used one-zone synchrotron self-Compton, two-zone, and spine/layer models to explore this VHE flare's origin. The results indicate that this γ-ray flare can be explained by Inverse Compton Scattering radiation from the layer contributed gamma radiation and results in the γ-ray flare in a different way than the two-zone model. The difference between the two models lies in the performance of spectral energy distribution after γ-ray flare as well as a possible difference in the timescales of the flare.

Chatbots have been increasingly playing a greater role in English as a foreign language education, offering learners the opportunity to practise with a conversational agent at any time and in different contexts. To grasp how this field has developed and identify emerging trends and opportunities, we conducted a systematic bibliometric analysis of research on chatbots in English language learning from 2006 to 2023. The analysis highlights the increasing importance of Large Language Models in language learning, exploring their potential to overcome previous limitations of chatbot technology. The implications of these findings for future research are discussed, particularly the potential for chatbot designs tailored to the specific needs of English language learners. © 2024 CEUR-WS. As the most widely distributed vegetation type on Earth, grasslands are the second largest ecosystem after forests, and are known as the 'skin of the earth'. However, the frequency of rodent infestation has been increasing year by year in recent years due to climate change, loose soil and other factors. As the current traditional monitoring methods are time-consuming and laborious, while the deep learning method has the advantages of low cost, high efficiency and high accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes a combination of UAV remote sensing and deep learning methods to monitor grassland mouse hole. First, because there is no publicly available grassland mouse hole dataset, this study used a UAV to capture images to create a grassland mouse hole dataset. Second, an improved YOLOv7 model, YOLOAPM, is proposed with the goal of improving the accuracy of small target recognition. Through ablation and comparison experiments, the validity of the improved model as well as the method of this paper are verified to be improved compared to other models. Finally, in order to facilitate the monitoring task of the researchers, a monitoring system is established and the mouse hole identification of this paper is embedded into the system. © 2024 IEEE.

Recent decades have witnessed several infectious disease outbreaks,including the coronavirus disease(COVID-19)pandemic,which had catastrophic impacts on societies around the *** the same time,the twenty-first century has experienced an unprecedented era of techno-logical development and demographic changes:exploding population growth,increased air-line flights,and increased rural-to-urban migration,with an estimated 281 million international migrants worldwide in 2020,despite COVID-19 movement *** this review,we synthesized 195 research articles that examined the association between human movement and infectious disease outbreaks to understand the extent to which human mobility has increased the risk of infectious disease *** article covers eight infectious diseases,ranging from respiratory illnesses to sexually transmitted and vector-borne *** review revealed a strong association between human mobility and infectious disease spread,particularly strong for respiratory illnesses like COVID-19 and *** significant research into the relationship between infectious diseases and human mobility,four knowl-edge gaps were identified based on reviewed literature in this study:1)although some studies have used big data in investigating infectious diseases,the efforts are limited(with the exception of COVID-19 disease),2)while some research has explored the use of multiple data sources,there has been limited focus on fully integrating these data into comprehensive analyses,3)limited research on the global impact of mobility on the spread of infectious disease with most studies focusing on local or regional outbreaks,and 4)lack of standardiza-tion in the methodology for measuring the impacts of human mobility on infectious disease *** tackling the recognized knowledge gaps and adopting holistic,interdisciplinary methods,forthcoming research has the potential to substantially enhance our comprehension of the intricate inter

Despite criticism for loss of information and power, dichotomization of variables is still frequently used in social, behavioral, and medical sciences, mainly because it yields more interpretable conclusions for research outcomes and is useful for decision making. However, the artificial choice of cut-points can be controversial and needs proper justification. In this work, we investigate the properties of point-biserial correlation after dichotomization with underlying bimodal Gaussian mixture distributions. We propose a dichotomous grouping procedure that considers the largest standardized difference in group mean while minimizing information loss. © 2024, The Author(s).

IMGTP: A Unified Framework for Improving and Measuring the Generalizability of Trajectory Prediction Models

Accurately predicting nearby agents' future trajectories is fundamental for ensuring the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving. However, existing learning-based trajectory prediction models struggle with poor generalization to out-of-distribution (OOD) scenes, potentially leading to failed predictions in real-world applications. To tackle this challenge, we introduce IMGTP, a unified framework for systematically evaluating, improving, and measuring the generalization performance of trajectory prediction models in OOD scenes. IMGTP consists of three primary components: the Argoverse-Shift dataset, the FrenÃ©t+ strategy, and an approach for OOD measurement. First, the Argoverse-Shift is a cross-domain dataset that highlights the significant differences in data distributions across domains, serving as a testing platform for models' generalization ability. Second, the FrenÃ©t+ strategy leverages map centerlines and the FrenÃ©t Frame to enhance the generalizability of baseline models by mitigating the domain gap resulting from road geometry variations. Third, we provide a comprehensive evaluation methodology for OOD measurement, quantifying the range of data that can be effectively handled by prediction models. This measurement approach employs the accuracy rate of the correctly predicted samples and their corresponding mean distance as well as standard deviation to the training set center as indicators of the model's generalization ability. The mean distance also serves as a valid criterion for OOD detection and uncertainty quantification. Experimental results demonstrate that our IMGTP framework enhances the generalization capability of mainstream trajectory prediction models by substantially improving their prediction performance in unseen domains. In-situ synthesized SiC/TiC/SiTiOC hybrid nanofiber mats for broad-range temperature microwave absorption

Efficient, temperature-insensitive electromagnetic attenuation materials are critical for high microwave absorption at high temperatures. This study presents SiC/TiC/SiTiOC hybrid nanofiber mats constructed using an in-situ synthesis method;these mats incorporate SiC/TiC as the microwave loss unit and SiTiOC as the antioxidant unit, offering an innovative approach to high-temperature microwave absorption. The introduction of high-conductivity TiC not only optimizes the dielectric constant and impedance matching of the material but also enhances its thermal cycling stability. This design ensures steady electromagnetic attenuation, enabling the hybrid nanofiber mats to maintain robust absorption performance in the X-band, even at high temperatures. At 873 K, the material demonstrates an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.6 GHz and a minimum reflection loss of-45.55 dB. Compared to single-system absorbers, such as SiC/C nanofiber materials, with a single system, the multicomponent SiC/TiC/SiTiOC hybrid nanofiber mats deliver reliable absorption performance in the temperature range of 293–873 K. This study confirms that highly conductive titanium-based ceramic materials used for dielectric property regulation effectively address the challenges of poor temperature stability and limited reusability in high-temperature carbon-ceramic absorbing materials, providing valuable insights and guidance for designing efficient microwave absorbers that can operate across a wide temperature range.
