Network data models have not received the level of attention accorded relational models in fuzzy database research. The lack of formality in the description of form and behavior of network models has served to inhibit deeper probing. Here, a formal definition of the record interrelationships is offered together with a concise logical description of the constraints enforced by DBTG network databases. Three approaches for incorporating imprecision via fuzzy set theory are given together with original nonprocedural query languages. It is found that the greatest barrier to straightforward incorporation of semantics dealing with imprecision is the functionality constraint — the condition that a record may have but a single owner.

The present article outlines progress made in designing an intelligent information system for automatic management and knowledge discovery in large numeric and scientific databases, with a validating application to the CAST-NEONS environmental databases used for ocean modeling and prediction. We describe a discovery-learning process (Automatic Data Analysis System) which combines the features of two machine learning techniques to generate sets of production rules that efficiently describe the observational raw data contained in the database. Data clustering allows the system to classify the raw data into meaningful conceptual clusters, which the system learns by induction to build decision trees, from which are automatically deduced the production rules.

A model for genetic algorithms with semantic nets is derived for which the relationships between concepts is depicted as a semantic net. An organism represents the manner in which objects in a scene are attached to concepts in the net. Predicates between object pairs are continuous valued truth functions in the form of an inverse exponential function (e − β | x | ). 1 : n relationships are combined via the fuzzy OR (Max[…]). Finally, predicates between pairs of concepts are resolved by taking the average of the combined predicate values of the objects attached to the concept at the tail of the arc representing the predicate in the semantic net. The method is illustrated by applying it to the identification of oceanic features in the North Atlantic.

Genetic data can be used to optimize drug treatment based on the ge-netic profiles of individual patients, thereby reducing adverse drug events and improving the efficacy of pharmacotherapy. The Genomic Clinical Decision Support (Genomic CDS) ontology utilizes Web Ontology Language 2 (OWL 2) reasoning for this task. The ontology serves a clear-cut medical use case that requires challenging OWL 2 DL reasoning. We present an update of the Ge-nomic CDS ontology which covers a significantly larger number of clinical de-cision support rules and where inconsistencies presented in previous versions of the ontology have been removed.

The term "integrated system" denotes the seamless collaboration of numerous (potentially unrelated) subsystems to achieve a specific goal. It involves combining various components—hardware, software, networks, and workflows—into a unified system that operates cohesively. Widely utilized across scientific and technological domains, integrated systems aim to elevate coherence, efficiency, and overall functionality quality. The Integrated System Design and Technology (ISDT) conference convenes a distinguished group of leading scientists with diverse backgrounds and notable achievements in technological innovation with the goal of fostering cross-disciplinary research and innovation. This gathering serves as an enabler for addressing major scientific and societal challenges that necessitate integrated systems, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in overcoming complex issues. The book at hand includes peer-reviewed research results that were presented and critically discussed duringthe ISDT 2023 which were held in Antalya, Turkey, in May 2023.

The envisioned role of computer programs in health care is perhaps the most important. Everything we know today in medicine might not have been possible without the valuable contribution of computers. Uncertainty is the central, critical fact about medical reasoning. Particularly in an intensive care unit (ICU), where decisions must often be made quickly, or that physicians will follow it rather than openly or surreptitiously limiting care on their own. The provisioning of Decision Support systems (DSS) in an ICU would enable the discovery of patterns in health data which might be important for the fight against incorrect diagnosis. Many of this intelligent DSS are based on the fuzzy set theory which describes complex systems mathematical model in terms of linguistic rules. Fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic, founded in 1965 by Lotfi A. Zadeh, are a highly suitable and applicable basis for developing such systems in medicine. Over the past three decades experience has shown that the expectations were not always fulfilled in this field. This paper addresses the capabilities as well as limitations of DSS on three concrete applications. All systems established as real-time applications at an ICU and have reached the state of extensive clinical integration and testing at the Vienna general hospital.

In this research, inductive inference is done with an informant on the class of regular languages. The approach is to evolve formal language accepters which are consistent with a set of sample strings from the language, and a set of sample strings known not to be in the language. Deterministic finite automata (DFA) were chosen as the formal language accepters to alleviate the computational difficulties of nondeterministic constructs such as rewrite grammars. Genetic programming (GP) offers two significant improvements for regular language induction over genetic algorithms. First, GP allows the size of the solution (the DFA) to be determined at run time in response to population pressure. Second, GP's potential for assuring correct dependencies in complex individuals can be exploited to assure that all states in a DFA are reachable from the start state. The contribution of this research is the effective translation of DFAs to S-expressions, the application of renumbering, and of editing to the problem of language induction. DFAs or transition tables form the basis of many problems. By using the techniques found in this paper, many of these problems can be directly translated into the domain of genetic programming.< >
