Kidney disease (KD) is a gradually increasing global health concern. It is a chronic illness linked to higher rates of morbidity and mortality, a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and numerous other illnesses, and expensive medical expenses. The machine learning (ML) models are applied for KD prediction with higher accuracy and precision. The KD dataset has uncertainty and vague information, so, we used the neutrosophic set (NS) to deal with vague and uncertainty information in the KD dataset. The KD dataset is converted into the N-KD dataset with three membership functions: truth, indeterminacy, and falsity. Three ML models are used in this study such as logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and k-nearest neighbor (KNN). These ML models are applied to the N-KD dataset. The results show the LR has higher accuracy and precision on the N-KD dataset than the original KD dataset. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

Solving dynamic optimization problems using parent–child multi-swarm clustered memory (PCSCM) algorithm

The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm faces several inherent challenges when applied to dynamic and large-scale optimization problems. These challenges encompass the issues of outdated particle memory, inadequate scalability in high-dimensional search spaces, the incapability to detect environmental changes, a continual trade-off between exploration and exploitation, and the potential loss of population diversity within the problem space. To address these challenges, we propose a novel hybrid PSO algorithm, denoted as Parent–Child Multi-Swarm Clustered Memory (PCSCM). PCSCM is explicitly designed to leverage an enhanced memory system, capable of mitigating the issue of outdated particle memory after convergence, and efficiently adapting to changing environmental conditions. This innovative memory system retains and retrieves promising solutions from the past when environmental alterations occur. Additionally, PCSCM introduces clustering mechanisms for particles within each swarm, aimed at augmenting diversity within the problem space. This clustering strategy substantially bolsters the algorithm’s performance in tracking evolving optimal solutions and positively contributes to its scalability. Crucially, the clustering approach is implemented not only for the main population but also for stored solutions in memory, which collectively strike a balance between exploration and exploitation. In the proposed method, particle swarms are divided into parent and child swarms, with parent swarms dedicated to preserving diversity;while, child swarms focus on identifying local solutions. These clustering and memory strategies are consistently applied within each sub-swarm to effectively address the challenges posed by high-dimensional search spaces. SEED-VII: A Multimodal Dataset of Six Basic Emotions with Continuous Labels for Emotion Recognition

Recognizing emotions from physiological signals is a topic that has garnered widespread interest, and research continues to develop novel techniques for perceiving emotions. However, the emergence of deep learning has highlighted the need for comprehensive and high-quality emotional datasets that enable the accurate decoding of human emotions. To systematically explore human emotions, we develop a multimodal dataset consisting of six basic (happiness, sadness, fear, disgust, surprise, and anger) emotions and the neutral emotion, named SEED-VII. This multimodal dataset includes electroencephalography (EEG) and eye movement signals. The seven emotions in SEED-VII are elicited by 80 different videos and fully investigated with continuous labels that indicate the intensity levels of the corresponding emotions. Additionally, we propose a novel Multimodal Adaptive Emotion Transformer (MAET), that can flexibly process both unimodal and multimodal inputs. Adversarial training is utilized in the MAET to mitigate subject discrepancies, which enhances domain generalization. Our extensive experiments, encompassing both subject-dependent and cross-subject conditions, demonstrate the superior performance of the MAET in terms of handling various inputs. Continuous labels are used to filter the data with high emotional intensity, and this strategy is proven to be effective for attaining improved emotion recognition performance. Furthermore, complementary properties between the EEG signals and eye movements and stable neural patterns of the seven emotions are observed. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

An Energy-Aware Resource Management Strategy Based on Spark and YARN in Heterogeneous Environments

Apache Spark is a popular framework for processing big data. Running Spark on Hadoop YARN allows it to schedule Spark workloads alongside other data-processing frameworks on Hadoop. When an application is deployed in a YARN cluster, its resources are given without considering energy efficiency. Furthermore, there is no way to enforce any user-specified deadline constraints. To address these issues, we propose a new deadline-aware resource management system and a scheduling algorithm to minimize the total energy consumption in Spark on YARN for heterogeneous clusters. First, a deadline-aware energy-efficient model for the considered problem is proposed. Then, using a locality-aware method, executors are assigned to applications. This algorithm sorts the nodes based on the performance per watt (PPW) metric, the number of application data blocks on nodes, and the rack locality. It also offers three ways to choose executors from different machines: greedy, random, and Pareto-based. Finally, the proposed heuristic task scheduler schedules tasks on executors to minimize total energy and tardiness. We evaluated the performance of the suggested algorithm regarding energy efficiency and satisfying the Service Level Agreement (SLA). The results showed that the method outperforms the popular algorithms regarding energy consumption and meeting deadlines. © 2017 IEEE.

Nowadays, a large amount of data is being generated and these data are usually stored in distributed environments such as cloud, fog, and edge environments. Data replication, which is commonly used to manage large amounts of data, improves overall accessibility and availability. Due to the importance of data replication, a lot of research has been done on replication methods in these environments. In this paper, a systematic review has been conducted to analyze the existing studies on data replication methods in cloud, fog, edge, and edge-cloud environments. The advantages, disadvantages, and some of the main challenges of the existing methods are explained and a taxonomy of data replication methods is provided. The selected papers are analyzed based on various criteria related to data replication, such as recovery, storage cost, load balancing, replica consistency, security, mobility, and data migration. Nowadays, machine learning (ML) has attained a high level of achievement in many contexts. Considering the significance of ML in medical and bioinformatics owing to its accuracy, many investigators discussed multiple solutions for developing the function of medical and bioinformatics challenges using deep learning (DL) techniques. The importance of DL in Internet of Things (IoT)-based bio- and medical informatics lies in its ability to analyze and interpret large amounts of complex and diverse data in real time, providing insights that can improve healthcare outcomes and increase efficiency in the healthcare industry. Several applications of DL in IoT-based bio- and medical informatics include diagnosis, treatment recommendation, clinical decision support, image analysis, wearable monitoring, and drug discovery. The review aims to comprehensively evaluate and synthesize the existing body of the literature on applying deep learning in the intersection of the IoT with bio- and medical informatics. In this paper, we categorized the most cutting-edge DL solutions for medical and bioinformatics issues into five categories based on the DL technique utilized: convolutional neural network, recurrent neural network, generative adversarial network, multilayer perception, and hybrid methods. A systematic literature review was applied to study each one in terms of effective properties, like the main idea, benefits, drawbacks, methods, simulation environment, and datasets. After that, cutting-edge research on DL approaches and applications for bioinformatics concerns was emphasized. In addition, several challenges that contributed to DL implementation for medical and bioinformatics have been addressed, which are predicted to motivate more studies to develop medical and bioinformatics research progressively. A new era of data access and management has begun with the use of cloud computing in the healthcare *** the efficiency and scalability that the cloud provides, the security of private patient data is still a majorconcern. Encryption, network security, and adherence to data protection laws are key to ensuring the confidentialityand integrity of healthcare data in the cloud. The computational overhead of encryption technologies could leadto delays in data access and processing rates. To address these challenges, we introduced the Enhanced ParallelMulti-Key Encryption Algorithm (EPM-KEA), aiming to bolster healthcare data security and facilitate the securestorage of critical patient records in the cloud. The data was gathered from two categories Authorization forHospital Admission (AIH) and Authorization for High Complexity *** use Z-score normalization forpreprocessing. The primary goal of implementing encryption techniques is to secure and store massive amountsof data on the cloud. It is feasible that cloud storage alternatives for protecting healthcare data will become morewidely available if security issues can be successfully fixed. As a result of our analysis using specific parametersincluding Execution time (42%), Encryption time (45%), Decryption time (40%), Security level (97%), and Energyconsumption (53%), the system demonstrated favorable performance when compared to the traditional *** suggests that by addressing these security concerns, there is the potential for broader accessibility to cloudstorage solutions for safeguarding healthcare data.
