Globally, 210 nations have been affected by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), which has been classified as a pandemic. The modern health system, as well as the economic, educational, and social sides of society, have all been severely impacted. While the rate of transmission keeps increasing, several cooperative strategies between stakeholders to create cutting-edge methods of screening and detecting COVID-19 instances among people at a comparable rate have been noticed. Also, the importance of computational models connected to the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution in accomplishing the desired feat has been emphasized. Unfortunately, there is a gap in the precision of COVID-19 case detection, prediction, and contact tracking. For patients with COVID-19 in isolation units, teleultrasound (TUS), particularly with the support of fifth generation (5G) wireless transmission technology, can offer rapid monitoring, quick clinical progress assessment, and assistance with guiding interventional procedures. Also, it helps conserve medical resources like equipment and supplies while lowering the risk of infection among medical personnel. The review of computer models presented in this work can be used to improve the effectiveness of COVID-19 pandemic case detection and prediction. We concentrate on adoptable big data, AI, and nature-inspired computing solutions for the current pandemic. According to the review, models inspired by nature have shown strong performance in feature selection for medical problems. In pandemic-related cases like COVID-19, contact tracing using big data analytics should also be investigated. © 2023 IEEE.

The load frequency control (LFC) is crucial for stabilizing the frequency of the power grid in the intermittency of renewable energy sources. Modern LFC systems utilize open communication and automation networks that expose power systems to potential cyberattacks, which could lead to frequency instability throughout the network. Current research often treats frequency control and cybersecurity independently, which could lead to ineffective solutions and increased system instability. This paper introduces a cyber-resilient LFC strategy that improves both control performance and security. We employ reinforcement learning for adaptive frequency control and integrate it with a graph convolutional neural network to enhance control responses during a cyberattack event. Our strategy also includes a graph auto encoder-based attack detector that is trained in various scenarios and has shown more than 92% in detection rate while tested on the Iberian power system topology, which includes 486 buses. This highlights the robustness and reliability of our approach in ensuring resilience against cyberattacks within the realm of frequency control in power systems. © 2024 IEEE.

The Bamboo Forest Growth Optimization(BFGO) algorithm is an algorithm proposed by the growth law of bamboo forest, which has the advantages of fast convergence and not easily falling into local optimum. In this paper we have experimented the BFGO with several other population intelligence optimization algorithms on 23 benchmark test functions and proved its superiority. Also we apply the bamboo forest optimization algorithm to nighttime image enhancement in this paper, and the algorithm achieves better results on this application. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In a data center network (DCN), there are numerous hosts connected by well-organized switches, usually involving a large amount of data transmission to offer cloud services. How to manage flows in a DCN by deciding packet routes is critical. This paper applies the software-defined networking (SDN) technique to flow management in fat-tree DCNs. Unlike previous studies, we consider that flows have different values and associate flows with profits to reflect their values. The practical profit acquired from each flow will depend on the proportion of successfully sent packets. The paper proposes a profit-oriented flow management (POFM) scheme to maximize the profit obtained while reducing packet loss in flows. In POFM, once a link becomes congested, some flows on that link may be rerouted to other paths. When no alternative path can be found, POFM adjusts the data rates of flows on the congested link based on multiple factors, including their demanded rates, profits, and transmission durations. With simulations, we show that POFM can effectively raise the overall profit and decrease the packet loss rate in the DCN. ©2024 IEEE.

Charity giving is a fundamental aspect of society, but there are concerns about the accountability and transparency of the donation process. Blockchain technology has emerged as a potential solution, offering a secure and auditable platform for managing charitable contributions. In this paper, we explore the concept of empowering donors through blockchain technology and examine how it can help ensure that contributions reach the right recipients. We review existing literature on the topic and identify key areas for future research, including the development of hybrid blockchain solutions along with the implementation of novel consensus mechanisms. Moreover, providing the idea of decentralized autonomous organizations, self-executing smart contracts, and integration of blockchain with artificial intelligence and Internet of things. By providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of the field and outlining a roadmap for future research, we hope to stimulate further exploration of the potential of blockchain technology to revolutionize charity giving, and create a more accountable and transparent system for managing charitable funds. Some research questions are designed for each novel idea. Our analysis suggests that blockchain has the potential to empower donors and ensure that their contributions make a positive impact in the world, but further research is needed to fully realize its potential. © 2023 IEEE.

Efficient Object Detection Acceleration Methods for Autonomous-driving Embedded Platforms

Object detection in autonomous vehicles is typically operated in an embedded system to reduce power consumption. The use of an object detection algorithm with high accuracy and real-time detection speed in the embedded systems is essential for ensuring safe driving. This study proposes a parallel processing method for GPU and CPU operations to enhance the detection speed of the model. In addition, this study proposes data augmentation and image resize techniques that consider the camera input size of autonomous driving, which increases the accuracy significantly while improving the detection speed. The application of these proposed schemes to a baseline algorithm, tiny Gaussian YOLOv3, improves the mean average precision by 1.14 percent points (pp) for the Berkeley Deep Drive (BDD) dataset and 1.34 pp for the KITTI dataset compared to the baseline. Furthermore, in the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier, which is an embedded platform for autonomous driving, the proposed algorithm improves the detection speed by 22.54 % for the BDD, and 24.67 % for the KITTI compared to the baseline, thereby enabling high-speed real-time detection on both datasets. © 2022 Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers. The Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) places a strong emphasis on advancing education within its domain. Various educational programs and resources have contributed to the professional development of CASS members for more than 20 years now. A major transformation within the Society was started in 2021 with a clear vision to become a premier educational resource within circuits and systems areas of interest. This article provides a comprehensive review of flagship educational programs and past initiatives. Insights from the lessons learned and future trends in the education ecosystem guided society's strategies and frameworks for improving and developing new educational products and services.
