Complex software intensive simulation systems must respond to changing technology, environments, and requirements. Hence, dynamic extensibility and adaptability is a significant concern in an application domain. However, existing interoperability and composability solutions are limited in dealing with (1) dynamically evolving content needs of existing simulations and (2) run-time inclusion of new components into a simulation system. simulations that are dynamically extensible, while being interoperable require principled designs that facilitate engineering extensibility, interoperability, and composability in the first place. We propose and examine the utility of a strategy based on an agent-mediated meta-simulation architecture.

This paper presents a robust simulation environment targeted for teaching and learning the complex dynamics of computer networks. The general-purpose DEVS-suite simulator supports animation with I/O and state trajectories of computer network models developed using parallel DEVS modeling approach. The simulator offers high-level model abstraction as compared with simulators such as NS-2. The combined capabilities afforded by the robust DEVS-suite simulator assists in understanding the fundamentals of computer network topologies and the logics of communication protocols. This newly developed DEVS-Suite offers an expressive, yet relatively simple to use, simulation environment for students and educators to develop and experiment with computer network models.

Websites typically display only their most recent content. However, the dynamic nature of the web leads to frequent updates and deletions. Web archives preserve snapshots of earlier versions for those interested in tracking changes over time. Analyzing these changes often requires a manual process that relies on traditional methods focused on terms or phrase-level differences. This study explores the capability of Large Language Models (LLMs), specifically GPT-4o, through a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach for detecting changes in archived web pages. Using WARC-GPT, a RAG pipeline to interact with Web ARChive (WARC) files, we identify and analyze changes across a small set of U.S. federal environmental web pages that changed between 2016 and 2020. Our findings show that GPT-4o can effectively be used to detect inconsistencies in web archive content, including consideration of the change and the semantic context upon which the changes occurred. Our exploration represents an initial step toward using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for deeper and scalable web change analysis.

The energy Internet (EI) presents a novel paradigm for renewable energy distribution that utilizes communication and computing technologies to revolutionize the conventional intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) and power grid into a structure that provides assistance to open innovation. The EI offers sustainable and bidirectional transmission for the improvement and analysis of energy convention among electric vehicles (EVs) and service providers. To ensure efficient, reliable, and secure operation, EI must be safe from security attacks. Therefore, efficient and secure key negotiation is a significant issue for the EI-based Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) architecture. Thus, to ensure the system's security, we have devised a robust scheme to facilitate a secure key agreement between the entities involved for the secure and efficient renewable energy distribution for the EI-based energy vehicles in V2G. The devised scheme's robustness is solicited through the widely accepted formal random or real (RoR) model. In addition, the informal security analysis is conducted on the devised scheme, which is evident that the designed scheme achieves all the required security features of EI-based ITS. Moreover, the performance evaluation results endorse that the designed scheme achieves the desired security and minimizes the communication, computation, and energy overhead by 29.33%, 27.94%, and 28.08% in comparison to the existing competitive schemes. © 2014 IEEE.

Internet based virtual reality offers the opportunity to render content in three dimensions. In addition, the Internet provides a medium to support collaborative activities. In this work, we describe how collaborative capabilities are integrated into the Interactive Land use VRML Application (ILUVA). ILUVA is a VRML based application that supports highly interactive functionality, live updates, and the dynamic generation of VRML content. The collaborative functions have been added in the context of an Internet chat session in which multiple users may participate from the Internet. In addition to the usual functions supported by chat applications, user information sharing is supported. The union or intersection of sessions from different users may be produced and reviewed in the world.

With the development of Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology, the notion of smart city concept comes to reality. Smart city covers a broad range of scenarios for citizens in their everyday life, such as smart home, smart traffic and smart healthcare. However, considering the IoT technology itself still under security threats, smart city security and resilience is a critical factor for truly embracing the smart age of everyday life. Current technology has a difficult time providing security in smart city architectures because of its decentralized and distributed nature. As a recently new technology, Blockchain uses a decentralized and distributed security approach to adding security to a decentralized and distributed IoT system. This paper presents a blockchain based solution to provide security and resilience in smart cities and analyze potential security concerns in the integration of blockchain technology into smart city infrastructure. Each of the concerns are discussed in detail.

Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) utilizes an architecture that can host a large number of nodes without pre-established trust to provide decentralized services. The blockchain is the most widely used architecture of distributed ledger, where transactions across the whole network are visible to all participants in a chain to prevent tampering. However, transactions may contain sensitive information such as business contract. To secure the system and protect user privacy, we propose a multi-channel architecture that leverages Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX). We illustrate how SGX capabilities help to defend against attacks on distributed ledgers, by way of SGX enforcement on the participating machines. We adopt the design and implementation of a two layer architecture for securing the blockchain mining process and enhancing the transaction privacy. The security analysis and performance evaluation show that the design and protocols are capable of protecting privacy, defending against adversarial attacks and scalable. © 2020 Society for modeling & simulation International (SCS)

Fractional order systems, which involve integration and differentiation of non integer order, are increasingly being used in the fields of control systems, robotics, signal processing and circuit theory. Traditionally, the analysis of fractional order systems has been performed using paper-and-pencil based proofs or computer algebra systems. These analysis techniques compromise the accuracy of their results and thus are not recommended to be used for safety-critical fractional order systems. To overcome this limitation, we propose to leverage upon the high expressiveness of higher-order logic to formalize the theory of fractional calculus, which is the foremost mathematical concept in analyzing fractional order systems. This paper provides a higher-order-logic formalization of fractional calculus based on the Riemann-Liouville approach using the HOL theorem prover. To demonstrate the usefulness of the reported formalization, we utilize it to formally analyze some fractional order systems, namely, a fractional electrical component Resistoductance, a fractional integrator and a fractional differentiator circuit.

The occurrence of natural or man-made emergencies can be quite complex and demand flawless preparedness, through tested strategies, in order to ensure the safety of the individuals. For large-scale infrastructures, whether commercial or residential, having a reliable evacuation strategy is crucial. Formulation and evaluation of these evacuation strategies is however a daunting challenge. In this paper, we propose a Crowd simulation and Analysis framework for the formulation and evaluation of effective evacuation strategies in large buildings, using real-scale building structures and agent based approach. We further propose an algorithm to devise an evacuation strategy. We first demonstrate the functionality of our algorithm using a simplistic example and then apply the algorithm in a campus evacuation case study using three scenarios. The main goal of this research is to assist regulatory authorities in developing effective disaster management plans through the use of M&S methods and tools.
