There have two effective ways to improve the overall efficiency of the object-based distributed storage system, one is network caching technology and the other is metadata server cluster load balancing strategy. Under the heterogeneous storage environments, object-based distributed file system face the key challenge of lacking caching mechanism for the high-frequency access files, metadata server load imbalance also reduce the overall efficiency. To address these challenges, we discuss the design and implementation of an object-based distributed file storage caching system, and propose a weight-based metadata server cluster load balancing strategy. It effectively improve the metadata processing capacity. Based on the results, it demonstrated the feasibility and the efficiency of our methods. © 2015 SERSC.

The OraCDP disaster recovery system uses CDP disaster recovery technology based on the combination of block level, combining with the communication coupling between the underlying I/O and Oracle database. The experimental results show that the OraCDP system can not only maintain the normal operation of the original system without any negative influence, but also guarantee the recovery of data and service at specific time quickly, fully and accurately. © 2015 SERSC.

Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS) are an essential backbone of national critical infrastructures. They help monitor and control crucial cyber-enabled services such as energy generation. Commonly ICPS monitors the physical process through Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. The SCADA ecosystem takes critical real-time and future system operational decisions based on the runtime state behavior of field sensors. Traditional SCADA systems use legacy and insecure communication protocols such as the Modbus protocol that lack adequate security mechanisms to provide robust runtime state behavior assurance of constrained field sensors. Therefore, constrained field sensors are commonly vulnerable to standard semantic attacks that gradually change the behavior state of infected devices. This paper discusses process integrity assurance techniques necessary to enhance the security of behavior-based protocols such as the Modbus protocol. The Runtime State Verification (RSV) protocol proposed in this paper aims to address semantic attacks in the SCADA ecosystem by integrating behavior-based Mandatory Results Automata (MRA) and a Hyperledger Fabric (HLF) network. The RSV protocol provides high process integrity assurance through enhanced behavior-based MRA suitable for the constrained field devices. A proof of concept of the RSV protocol has been evaluated in an emulated water-tube boiler. Preliminary evaluations of the RSV protocol aimed to measure the efficiency of the proposed protocol by monitoring an Combustion Efficiency (CE) process necessary to preserve optimal combustion, thus minimizing costs and future maintenance of water-tube boilers. We analyze the overall network overhead and latency of the proposed RSV protocol by evaluating the HLF network performance and comparing the proposed RSV protocol with the state-of-art BloSPAI protocol. This paper presents the results of applying an incremental simulation-based design process to study a robotic convoy system. Robot-in-the-loop simulation, as a major step in this process, allows the system to be measured with combined robot models and real robots. This capability effectively bridges the gap between conventional simulation where models are used and real system experiment where real robots are used. For each step in this incremental process, the simulation/experiment setup is described. The measurement data are then presented and compared. These experiments and results demonstrate the capabilities of robot-in-the-loop simulation and justify the effectiveness of using the incremental simulation-based design process. © 2005 IEEE.

The firing of ceramic ware in chamber furnaces is a transient multiphysical process,including turbulence combustion and fluid flow in the gas space,convective and radiation heat transfer from the flue gases to the furnace walls and ceramic ware,surface to surface radiation between the solid surfaces and conduction heat transfer in combination with endothermic or exothermic processes in the ceramic *** and conceptions for numerical analysis of that conjugate heat transfer(CHT)in such thermal aggregates are *** are validated on the base of information,obtained by in situ measurements at a furnace for firing of technical ***-uniform thermal and fluid flow fields in the furnace space that cause problems in the surrounding walls and wastes at the ceramic ware are ascertained in *** impossibility to improve the furnace operation at the existing construction and combustion installation is established.A variant for reconstruction of the furnace is investigated *** includes changes of the number,power and topology of the burners and different arrangement of the ceramic ware in the furnace *** temperature fields and reduction of the specific fuel consumption at the suggested configuration of the thermal aggregate are established.

Large Language Models (LLMs) are becoming ubiquitous to create intelligent virtual assistants that assist users in interacting with a system, as exemplified in marketing. Although LLMs have been discussed in modeling & simulation (M&S), the community has focused on generating code or explaining results. We examine the possibility of using LLMs to broaden access to simulations, by enabling non-simulation end-users to ask what-if questions in everyday language. Specifically, we discuss the opportunities and challenges in designing such an end-to-end system, divided into three broad phases. First, assuming the general case in which several simulation models are available, textual queries are mapped to the most relevant model. Second, if a mapping cannot be found, the query can be automatically reformulated and clarifying questions can be generated. Finally, simulation results are produced and contextualized for decision-making. Our vision for such system articulates long-term research opportunities spanning M&S, LLMs, information retrieval, and ethics. © 2024 IEEE.

Websites typically display only their most recent content. However, the dynamic nature of the web leads to frequent updates and deletions. Web archives preserve snapshots of earlier versions for those interested in tracking changes over time. Analyzing these changes often requires a manual process that relies on traditional methods focused on terms or phrase-level differences. This study explores the capability of Large Language Models (LLMs), specifically GPT-4o, through a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach for detecting changes in archived web pages. Using WARC-GPT, a RAG pipeline to interact with Web ARChive (WARC) files, we identify and analyze changes across a small set of U.S. federal environmental web pages that changed between 2016 and 2020. Our findings show that GPT-4o can effectively be used to detect inconsistencies in web archive content, including consideration of the change and the semantic context upon which the changes occurred. Our exploration represents an initial step toward using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for deeper and scalable web change analysis. © 2024 IEEE.

The MediSim system extends virtual environment technology to allow medical personnel to interact with and train on simulated casualties. The casualty model employs a three-dimensional animated human body that displays appropriate physical and behavioral responses to injury and/or treatment. Medical corpsmen behaviors were developed to allow the actions of simulated medical personnel to conform to both military practice and medical protocols during patient assessment and stabilization. A trainee may initiate medic actions through a mouse and menu interface;a VR interface has also been created by Stansfield's research group at Sandia National Labs. © 1997 The authors.

Especially in constructive simulations, there is a growing interest in the use of Human Behavior Representation (HBR) Models. Because of this interest many applications and models are developed. These are mainly from a human cognition and/or human interaction point of view. But most of these simulations are members of a Federation with a Federation Object Model (FOM) whose main task is not directly related with HBR but instead are focused on a weapon system, tactical scenario, moving platform or etc. Because of the very high complexity and numerous nonlinear relationships between entities, it is very difficult to develop and implement a pure HBR FOM. To develop a HBR FOM according to the Federation Development And Execution Process (FEDEP), first we should define federation objectives and determine what objectives drive "What should be in HBR FOM". In this paper we present a framework and it's development methodology for HBR FOM.

This paper presents a new region-based method for automatically synthesizing varied, natural looking 3D human face models by morphing local facial features according to intuitive control parameters. We automatically compute a one-to-one vertex correspondence among the unregistered face scans in a large database by deforming a generic mesh to fit the specific person's face geometry in a global-to-local fashion. With the obtained correspondence, we transform the generated data sets of feature shapes into vector space representations. We parameterize the example models using the face anthropometric measurements that reflect the facial physical structure, and predefine the interpolation functions for the parameterized example models based on radial basis functions. At runtime, the interpolation functions are evaluated to efficiently generate the appropriate feature shape by taking the anthropometric parameters as input. We use a shape blending approach for generating a seamlessly deformed mesh around the feature region boundary. The correspondence among all example textures is established by parameterizing the 3D generic mesh over a 2D image domain. The new feature texture with desired attributes is synthesized by interpolating the example textures. Our 3D face synthesis method has several advantages: (1) it regulates the naturalness of synthesized faces, maintaining the quality existing in the real face examples;(2) the region-based morphing and comprehensive face shape and texture control parameters allow more diverse faces to be generated readily;and (3) the automatic runtime face synthesis is efficient in time complexity and performs fast.
