An integrated visual modeling and simulation tool called Component-based System modeling and simulation (CoSMoS) is extended to support behavioral specification of parallel atomic DEVS model. An approach based on Statecharts and Graphical modeling Framework has been developed and implemented for specifying behaviors of atomic models. One or more Statecharts can be developed for any atomic model and stored in a relational database. The behavioral modeling complements atomic and coupled DEVS structural modeling where families of models with semi-automated code generated for the DEVS-Suite simulator are systematically stored and retrieve. The behavioral modeling enriches visual development of models that have DEVS-compliant specifications with modular, component-based visual representations. The visual representation of hierarchal coupled models are automatically generated or restored. An example model is employed to show the degree of details supported both in visual representation and database representation. This paper proposed predictive quantization-hased filtering method that uses average speed-based dynamic quantum size to effectively reduce communication overhead that DEVS/HLA-based distributed traffic simulation has. Average speed-based dynamic quantum size monitors dynamically changing road situation at fixed time unit and set vehicles 'average speed to dynamic quantum size. Then it generates individual quantum size offactors such as the distance from the leading vehicle, speed and acceleration that decide traffic models 'behavior by using dynamic quantum size. Therefore, the suggested methodology has an advantage in that it effectively reduces communication overhead among federates of distributed traffic simulation. This paper verified validity of the suggested method by doing distributed modeling the 32km block from East Seoul to Hobup of JOOJ'/GBOO highway in Korea and analyzing the simulation.

We present a heuristic-based real-time reach planning algorithm for virtual human figures. Given the start and goal positions in a 3D workspace, our problem is to compute a collision-free path that specifies all the configurations for a human arm to move from the start to the goal. Our algorithm consists of three modules: spatial search, inverse kinematics, and collision detection. For the search module, instead of searching in joint configuration space like most existing motion planning methods do, we run a direct search in the workspace, guided by a heuristic distance-to-goal evaluation function. The inverse kinematics module attempts to select natural posture configurations for the arm along the path found in the workspace. During the search, candidate configurations will be checked for collisions taking advantage of the graphics hardware-depth buffer. The algorithm is fast and easy to implement. It allows real-time planning not only in static, structured environments, but also in dynamic, unstructured environments. No preprocessing and prior knowledge about the environment is required. Several examples are shown illustrating the competence of the planner at generating motion plans for a typical human arm model with seven degrees of freedom.

The objective of this study was to develop a fast method for real time computation of Central of Pressure (CoP) sway area and to investigate the correlations among the velocity, acceleration, path length, sway area, and mean frequency of CoP signals during quiet standing in healthy children and in children with cerebral palsy. The sway area was computed using a fast search and sort based on a numerical approximation of the Green-Gauss method. Subjects were tested during eyes open and eyes closed trials to determine the significance of the visual input. Both RMS of CoP velocity and acceleration showed strong correlations with NPL and NSA in the eye open test (r≤0.728) and in the eye closed test (r≤0.919) of normal children. These findings were also consistent in children with cerebral palsy in both eye tests. The developed fast method in computing the sway area by using CoP velocity and CoP acceleration were validated through correlation analysis. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

The last few years have seen great maturation in understanding how to use computer graphics technology to portray 3D embodied characters or virtual humans. Unlike the off-line, animator-intensive methods used in the special effects industry, real-time embodied agents are expected to exist and interact with us "live." They can be represent other people or function as autonomous helpers, teammates, or tutors enabling novel interactive educational and training applications. We should be able to interact and communicate with them through modalities we already use, such as language, facial expressions, and gesture. Various aspects and issues in real-time virtual humans will be discussed, including consistent parameterizations for gesture and facial actions using movement observation principles, and the representational basis for character believability, personality, and affect. We also describe a Parameterized Action Representation (PAR) that allows an agent to act, plan, and reason about its actions or actions of others. Besides embodying the semantics of human action, the PAR is designed for building future behaviors into autonomous agents and controlling the animation parameters that portray personality, mood, and affect in an embodied agent.

Federated learning is a distributedmachine learningmethod that can solve the increasingly serious problemof data islands and user data privacy,as it allows training data to be kept locally and not shared with other *** trains a globalmodel by aggregating locally-computedmodels of clients rather than their ***,the divergence of local models caused by data heterogeneity of different clients may lead to slow convergence of the global *** this problem,we focus on the client selection with federated learning,which can affect the convergence performance of the global model with the selected local *** propose FedChoice,a client selection method based on loss function optimization,to select appropriate local models to improve the convergence of the global *** firstly sets selected probability for clients with the value of loss function,and the client with high loss will be set higher selected probability,which can make them more likely to participate in ***,it introduces a local control vector and a global control vector to predict the local gradient direction and global gradient direction,respectively,and calculates the gradient correction vector to correct the gradient direction to reduce the cumulative deviationof the local gradient causedby *** experiments to verify the validity of FedChoice on CIFAR-10,CINIC-10,MNIST,EMNITS,and FEMNIST datasets,and the results show that the convergence of FedChoice is significantly improved,compared with FedAvg,FedProx,and FedNova.

This paper deals with modeling and simulation of surface forest fire spread and suppression using the discrete event system specification (DEVS) cellspace approach. The event-based modeling approach allows for timely simulation-based predictions of forest, fire spread and suppression in uniform and non-uniform environmental conditions. This paper proposes a conceptual model for a coupled forest cell model comprising of a forest cell agent atomic model and a forest cell atomic model The forest cell agent atomic model will allow for modeling and simulation of more complex fire suppression strategies to control fire spread. The proposed basic model provides an advance toward developing a real-time or fast-as-can decision support simulation system for predicting forest fire spread and the effects of fire suppression attempts.

Distributed ledger technology (DLT) provides decentralised services by removing the need of trust among distributed nodes in the distributed system. Transactions across the network are visible to all participants. However, some transactions may contain sensitive information such as business contracts or even personal health records. To protect user privacy, the architecture of distributed multi-channel ledger with membership service as a critical component can be adopted. The proposed multi-channel membership service architecture combines two promising technologies, distributed ledger and Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX). With SGX remote attestation and isolated execution, each node is enrolled as a trusted entity to the channels, which separate different applications and provide better flexibility. We propose security properties for membership service in distributed ledger and illustrate how SGX help to achieve these properties in each phase. Security analysis and evaluation show that the proposed architecture could enhance the privacy preservation and capabilities against attacks. Copyright © 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

An integrated modeling and simulation tool called Componentbased System Modeler and Simulator (CoSMoS) is developed. It supports visual development of families of models that have well-defined logical specifications. The logical componentbased models persist in relational databases and may be automatically translated into specific target simulation and markup programming languages. The underlying systemtheoretic modeling framework of CoSMoS lends itself for the well-known discrete-time, continuous, and discrete-event modeling approaches. Currently, CoSMoS supports developing parallel DEVS-compliant models which can be executed using the DEVS-Suite simulator. The underlying process lifecycle of the CoSMoS enables systematic transitioning from visual model development and design of experiments to simulation execution and experimentation. simulation data can be used for run-time animation and viewing of time-based trajectories or exported for post processing. This tool helps to simplify simulation-based system design, verification, and validation. The core capabilities of the CoSMoS are exemplified with a conceptual model of an anti-virus network software system.

DEVS/NS-2 is a new integrated network simulation tool that provides efficient high and low level network modeling capabilities. DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) serves as a base framework to support well-defined mathematical formalism specification for structure and behavior of dynamic systems. The NS-2 is a discrete event network simulator, whose primary use is intended to build and run various detailed network models and protocols. The interoperable simulation of the two powerful modeling and simulation systems, DEVS and NS-2, allows to attain significant benefits in terms of reduction of the cost, increased high and low level networks modeling power, and enhanced reusability.
