This study investigates the optimization of signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) in superconducting quantum computing readout signals through adaptive filtering. Quantum computing technology has the potential to revolutionize various fields by delivering exponential speedup in solving certain computational problems. However, the technology's practical implementation is hindered by the difficulty of extracting clean, reliable signals during the readout phase, with various sources of noise presenting a significant barrier to clean signals. This noise, often present in readout profiles due to imperfect isolation, degrades the system's overall SNR, thus impeding the ability to extract the quantum state accurately. The research leverages the power of adaptive filtering to improve the SNR of quantum computing readout signals. Specifically, an adaptive filter is implemented in a PYNQ overlay on an FPGA, and eventually will be connected to a quantum computing system. The system models the noise with a Least Mean Squares (LMS) adaptive filter, and then subtracts the estimated noise from the received signal to improve the SNR. A Direct Memory Access (DMA) channel is used to handle the signal processing, delivering efficient, high-speed data transfer between the PYNQ system and the hardware. The study explores the benefits of this adaptive filtering technique, potentially providing a significant contribution to practical and fast quantum computing.

The feasibility-seeking approach provides a systematic scheme to manage and solve complex constraints for continuous problems, and we explore it for the floorplanning problems with increasingly heterogeneous constraints. The classic legality constraints can be formulated as the union of convex sets. However, the convergence of conventional projection-based algorithms is not guaranteed when the constraints sets are non-convex, which is the case with unions of convex sets. In this work, we propose a resetting strategy to greatly eliminate the divergence issue of the projection-based algorithm for the feasibility-seeking formulation. Furthermore, the superiorization methodology (SM), which lies between feasibility-seeking and constrained optimization, is firstly applied to floorplanning. The SM uses perturbations to steer the iterates of a feasibility-seeking algorithm to a feasible solution with shorter total wirelength. The proposed algorithmic flow is extendable to tackle various constraints and variants of floorplanning problems, e.g., floorplanning with I/O assignment problems. We have evaluated the proposed algorithm on the MCNC benchmarks. We can obtain legal floorplans only two times slower than the branch-and-bound method in its current prototype using MATLAB, with only 3% wirelength inferior to the optimal results. We evaluate the effectiveness of the algorithmic flow by considering the constraints of I/O assignment, and our algorithm achieves 8% improvement on wirelength. © 2023, CC BY.

Advancements in quantum computing underscore the critical need for sophisticated qubit readout techniques to accurately discern quantum states. This abstract presents our research intended for optimizing readout pulse fidelity for 2D and 3D Quantum processing Units (QPUs), the latter coupled with Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) cavities. Focusing specifically on the application of the Least Mean Squares (LMS) adaptive filtering algorithm, we explore its integration into the FPGA-based control systems to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of qubit state detection by improving signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). Implementing the LMS algorithm on the Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC Gen 3 devices (RFSoC 4x2 FPGA and ZCU216 FPGA) using the Quantum Instrumentation Control Kit (QICK) open-source platform, we aim to dynamically test and adjust the filtering parameters in real-time to characterize and adapt to the noise profile presented in quantum computing readout signals. Our preliminary results demonstrate the LMS filter's capability to maintain high readout accuracy while efficiently managing FPGA resources. These findings are expected to contribute to developing more reliable and scalable quantum computing architectures, highlighting the pivotal role of adaptive signal processing in quantum technology advancements.

Radiotelescopes are typically composed of large reflector antennas located outdoors. These antennas are designed to achieve high levels of gain, which is possible due to their large size and RF systems designed for working at high frequencies. However, various sources of error (such as mounting imperfection or deformations caused by gravity and weather effects) are difficult to identify and can significantly degrade the performance of the radiotelescope, reducing its gain. The correct diagnosis of these errors has been a challenge in radioastronomy. The most widely used technique is microwave holography, in which mechanical errors are detected through long electromagnetic acquisitions. The measured far-field is processed to obtain the aperture field and thus the errors affecting the surface or the phase distribution. In this paper, a novel methodology is proposed to diagnose reflector errors using holography. The proposed approach defines a system that models all possible aperture errors as a combination of basis functions, directly relating the errors to the acquired far-field and reducing the number of samples required for analysis. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Traditional multislice iterative phase retrieval (MIPR) from snapshot two-dimensional measurements suffers from the two limitations of pre-defined support and iterative stagnation. To eliminate the requirements for priori knowledge of support masks, this paper proposes a multislice iterative phase retrieval algorithm based on compressed support detection and hybrid input-output algorithm (CSD-MIPR-HIO). The CSD-MIPR-HIO algorithm firstly uses compressed support detection to adaptively detect the support masks of each plane from single 2D diffraction intensity, and then uses a hybrid input-output (HIO) iterative algorithm for MIPR. The proposed method breaks the limitations of traditional MIPR algorithms on priori knowledge of support masks and achieve high-quality reconstruction in noisy environments. Numerical and optical experiments confirm the feasibility, superiority, and robustness of our proposed CSD-MIPR-HIO method. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

With accelerated evolution of the internet, people can express their sentiments towards organizations, politics, products, events, etc. Analyzing these sentiments becomes very beneficial for businesses, government and individuals. To some extent, text sentiment analysis involves Internet content security. Aspect level sentiment classification aims to recognize the sentiment expressed towards a special target given a context sentence, which is more fine-grained than sentence level or document level sentiment analysis. Most previous works concentrate on the semantic information between the contexts and the aspect terms, but they ignore the structural information of the sentences. In this paper, we propose a new method based on Graph Attention Network (GAT) to deal with the complex connections among words in sentences through structural features. A lot of experiments are conducted on two datasets: Laptop and Restaurant from SemEval2014, the results show that our model outperforms other previous works, which confirms the effectiveness of taking sentence structural information into account. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This work presents the design of a passive reflectarray-based Intelligent Reflective Surface (IRS) to improve the coverage in a 5G scenario at 28 GHz. The IRS generates a wide beam in azimuth with a narrow beam in elevation, using a Phase-Only Synthesis with the Intersection Approach to design it. The resulting phase-shift distribution radiates a field pattern that covers an angular range of 12.75° and 2° in azimuth and elevation. Due to the IRS is placed on a building face, the surrender wall effect is analyzed. Different building materials are electromagnetically characterized in the Ka-band. Then, the effect of the wall is included in the radiated field. The results clearly demonstrate that the wall produces a strong reflection on the specular direction, deeply affecting the coverage. These preliminary results show the importance of including the wall in the design process.

The micro-generation of electricity has been studied day-by-day to provide electrical power in a clean and efficient way. Generating energy with sources such as wind and solar radiation can suffer seasonal interference such as low wind speed and the occurrence of clouds. When facing these events, producer-consumers (prosumers) need to inject electricity in the system via the public grid. This paper incorporates the Net-Metering mechanism into a micro-grid optimization problem to provide a compensation of energy between the microgrid (MG) and the public grid. A swarm-intelligent algorithm (C-DEEPSO) is proposed to solve the problem. Furthermore, the performance of two energy storage systems, Lithium Titanate Spinel (Li4Ti5O12 (LTO)) and Vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB), is assessed in terms of the final $/kWh costs provided by the MG, using different compensation policies. Using real data from a Spanish region, the results obtained indicate that, when apply the VRFB system in conjunction with a conservative policy of 25% compensation, the kWh price shows to be lower than when using the LTO. The approach proposed in this work is able to generate annual savings figures around thousands of dollars in power generation costs in microgrids. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) can control the phase of reflected signals, and has become a hotspot in the field of wireless communication. In this paper, we propose a direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm for RIS assisted multi-user wireless communication systems with squared-sine error criterion and Lawson norm constraint. This algorithm utilizes the sparsity of the signal and can achieve fast and accurate DOA estimation under the interference of impulsive noises. To suppress the line-of-sight (LOS) interference and thus to maximize the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), we also propose a random optimal phase selection (ROPS) technique to design the control matrix of RIS elements. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs better than the existing methods.
