In view of the terraced field terrain in Gansu Province, manual spraying of crops is not only time-consuming and inefficient, but also likely to cause safety problems due to the long-term contact of operators with pesticides. Therefore, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for plant protection and pesticide spraying was proposed. Terrace fields were collected for vertical view and they were first rasterized using the oxen-led (Boustrophedon) plant protection method to plan the full-coverage path of the UAV. Pesticides were sprayed on the crops. After they finish a layer of spraying, the UAV fell a certain distance from the second terrace of crops onto the next layer. Such a process was repeated until the completion of the entire task. If there is a missed area that has not been sprayed, the operator can automatically control the UAV to spray. It provides comprehensive coverage of complex areas, which is environmentally safe and efficient, and can be applied to agricultural operations. © 2023 SPIE.

Optical tweezers, capable of precise manipulations on micron/nano particles, can be greatly used to study the biophysics of cells and the interaction between biological molecules. The mechanical properties of cells are inherent properties of a cell, which could be measured by using a probe navigated by optical tweezers instead of the expensive atomic force microscopy (AFM). However, it is still a great challenge to precisely measure the cell mechanical properties because of the cell deformation highly depending on the contact mechanics of the probe. In this study, the finite element analysis (FEA) method was firstly employed to simulate the cell deformation with the spherical probe manipulated by optical tweezers. Then, cell mechanical responses to the contact force were discussed to investigate the probe radius effects on mechanical properties of cells. Traditionally, Young's modulus could be calculated in Hertz model with the cell deformation. It was found that the measured results of Young's modulus varied as the probe radius, although the preset mechanical property in the cell model was kept the same. When the contact force was less than 100 pN, the measured Young's modulus of the cell decreased with the increase of the probe radius, and gradually tended to be constant at the state of the maximum deformation. We proposed an algebra method to optimize the Young's modulus fit to the preset material parameter. This may provide a precise way of predicting the mechanical properties of biological cell manipulated by contact probes. © 2023 SPIE.

Due to their unique operational flexibility and ability to facilitate functional integration, the fascinating application of optical fibers has recently attracted significant attention in the field of optical tweezers and optical manipulation. In this paper, we have designed an elongated optical fiber tweezer, which is straightforward to fabricate and enables the capture of smaller particles, such as yeast cells, within confined spaces. Additionally, we have employed finite element analysis to simulate this optical fiber tweezer, resulting in the characterization of its optical field and intensity distribution. This technology holds great potential for future applications in the field of biomedicine. © 2023 IEEE.

With the rapid development of information technology, video has become an important carrier for people to perceive information in daily life. If you want to analyze the action of people in the video data of various scenes and make use of the results, you must first identify the human action accurately. In this paper, a temporal self-attention module is proposed to help the network dynamically learn the correlation between different data frames, so as to better capture the dependency on the time of action. On this basis, a novel network structure, Channel-Temporal Self-Attention Block (C-TSAB), is further proposed. C-TSAB adaptively emphasizes the key channels of input features and focuses on the time dimension to enhance the model's ability to recognize and represent action features. In the ablation experiment, the Top-1 and Top-5 indicators in HMDB51 dataset were 58.54% and 81.70%, respectively, and the Top-1 and Top-5 indicators in UCF101 dataset were 58.54% and 82.73%, respectively. Comparative experiments were conducted on HMDB51 dataset and UCF101 dataset respectively, our model obtained a better Top-1 indicator, both of which were 58.54%, proving that our model has relatively good performance in video HAR task. © 2024 IEEE.

Effects of an article-structure strategy-based spherical video-based virtual reality approach on EFL learners’ English reading comprehension and learning conceptions

Reading comprehension is critical and challenging for the English learning process. EFL (English as Foreign Language) learners often do not understand the meaning of the text due to the lack of an authentic learning context. This easily leads learners to read literally without deeply understanding. To address this issue, an article-structure strategy-based SVVR (short for ASS-SVVR) approach was proposed in the study, in which spherical video-based virtual reality (SVVR) was employed to immerse EFL learners in a real environment, and the article-structure strategy was introduced as step-by-step reading scaffolding to improve reading efficiency, accuracy, and comprehension. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a quasi-experiment was conducted in an English reading class at a university with two classes of 63 EFL learners. Among them, 33 learners were randomly distributed to the experimental group, conducting the ASS-SVVR approach, while the remaining 30 were assigned to the control group, conducting the conventional SVVR (C-SVVR) approach. The research findings showed that EFL students conducting the ASS-SVVR approach had positive performance in reading comprehension, extrinsic learning motivation, and metacognitive awareness of reading strategy. Moreover, cognitive load and sense of presence were not shown to have a significant difference between the two groups. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

One of the most important services provided by cloud service providers (CSPs), cloud storage is economically attractive and can provide on-demand data storage service to resource-constrained tenants in the manner of pay-per-use. Therefore, by embracing cloud storage service, tenants can store their large-scale data on the remote cloud host to tremendously reduce local storage burden and computational overhead. However, due to the separation of cloud data ownership and management, cloud storage inevitably suffers from a few new security challenges, such as fine-grained cloud data deletion. To achieve data deletion in cloud storage, we design a vector-commitment-based publicly verifiable data deletion scheme, which can achieve data integrity auditing and block-based fine-grained data deletion. Specifically, our proposed scheme disguises the data deletion operation as data update operation. Therefore, the tenants can achieve data deletion by updating the cloud data blocks with some unrelated data blocks. Meanwhile, the tenants can prevent cloud data from being polluted by periodically performing data integrity auditing operation, thus guaranteeing that the cloud host sincerely maintains the data. Moreover, we formally analyze the security, which shows that our proposed scheme can satisfy all of the anticipative security requirements without interaction with a centralized third party. Finally, we develop a prototype system and evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme, which can intuitively demonstrate the high-efficiency and practicality of our proposal. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Optical lattices are generated by superposition of a set of plane waves, and have been widely used in the quantum information, atomic cooling, condensed-matter physics, optical sectioning imaging and lithography. A periodic two-dimensional optical lattices, weakly confined in its propagation direction, can be used as an excite source to perform multifocal scanning. By controlling the angles of superimposed plane waves, the propagation direction of 2D optical lattices can be adjusted to achieve 2D optical lattices with equal obliquity. In this paper, we have firstly investigated the basic generation principles of the square 2D optical lattices with good symmetry. The influence of numerical aperture, and other parameters on the basic parameters of fundamental optical lattices, had been analyzed with the finite element method. Based on these, the basic parameters of 2D inclined lattices had been further analyzed. The research results will provide a theoretical basis for future applications of optical lattices in optical sectioning imaging. © 2023 SPIE. All rights reserved.

Here focus on freeform lens design for irradiance tailoring on tilted target planes based on differentiable ray tracing. Leveraging the computational graph, we develop a differentiable Monte Carlo ray tracing framework featuring a 3D coordinate rotation operator. The forward calculation within this framework can simulate the irradiance distribution on a tilted target plane generated by a freeform lens, facilitating the assessment of deviations from the desired irradiance distribution. The back-propagation efficiently acquires surface parameter gradients for optimization through the Adam optimizer. The design example demonstrates that the proposed method can effectively generate a high-quality uniform irradiance distribution on a tilted receiver. © 2024 SPIE.
