With rapid technological changes and globalized supply chains, intelligent and adaptable logistics systems are crucial, particularly at seaports. Container terminals face increasing volumes and demands, leading to potential truck congestion and long queues. Automation offers a solution by optimizing port performance and adapting to dynamic conditions, though port digitalization is complex due to diverse stakeholders and information flows. This work is part of the digital transformation of the Port of Sines - Portugal, specifically in the Smart Gate concept context. For this purpose, the Port of Sines Administration, together with other partners, has established the prerequisite of a pre-gate, which is currently being analysed from the point of view of its processes, the technologies to be included and the information models to be supported. This work aims to dynamically analyse the pre-gate model by testing different scenarios to propose improvements to the inherent processes using simulation. The study culminated in a discrete-event simulation model with Anylogic software to predict pre-gate behaviour and foresee potential issues. By testing various scenarios and evaluating their effects on key performance indicators, this model supports the continuous improvement of pre-gate processes.

A generalization of the Majumdar-Papapetrou multi-black-hole spacetime was recently constructed by Teo and Wan [Phys. Rev. D 109, 044054 (2024)], describing charged and spinning (extremal) balanced black holes in asymptotically flat spacetime. We explore the dynamics of null geodesics on this geometry, focusing on the two-center solution. Using the topological charge formalism, we show that various light ring arrangements arise from different choices of individual angular momenta: light rings with opposite topological charges can merge and annihilate each other, resulting in configurations with a total of 4, 6, or 8 light rings. Using backward ray tracing, we obtained the shadow and lensing of these spacetimes. The former, in particular, closely resembles those for the double Kerr metric.

Invariant conditions for conformable fractional problems of the calculus of variations under the presence of external forces in the dynamics are studied. Depending on the type of transformations considered, different necessary conditions of invariance are obtained. As particular cases, we prove fractional versions of Noether's symmetry theorem. Invariant conditions for fractional optimal control problems, using the Hamiltonian formalism, are also investigated. As an example of potential application in Physics, we show that with conformable derivatives it is possible to formulate an Action Principle for particles under frictional forces that is far simpler than the one obtained with classical fractional derivatives.

Managing type 1 diabetes presents a daily challenge for patients. Advanced technologies have emerged to simplify disease management and support patients and caregivers. Notably, dosing prandial insulin remains a complex and error-prone task. This study introduces a case-based reasoning system to predict postprandial blood glucose by considering several attributes that influence glycemic metabolism. The case-based reasoning system leverages the knowledge of historical cases to forecast blood glucose levels and use it to optimize insulin bolus calculation. The proposed approach holds promise for enhancing glycemic control, offering patients a more accurate and personalized insulin regimen.
