The Volume-Viscosity Swallowing Test – Portuguese Version: Validation and prevalence of safety and efficacy clinical signs in acute stroke patients

Purpose: The early identification of oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) in patients after an acute stroke using non-invasive and easily administered instruments can minimize its consequences and reduce comorbidity and mortality. The Volume-Viscosity Swallow Test (V-VST) is a screening test that makes it possible. The goal of this study is to contribute to the validation of the V-VST European Portuguese (V-VST: EP) version and study the prevalence of safety and efficacy signs in acute stroke patients. Method: The V-VST: EP, its instructions manual and algorithm, was presented to a panel of experts, to assess its content validity. It was applied to 33 acute stroke patients, with signs of OD, to analyze its psychometric properties. Finally, the prevalence of impaired signs of safety and efficacy was analyzed. Results: The V-VST: EP and its instruction manual (content) demonstrate very good agreement values. Most of the results for inter and intra-evaluator reliability presented Cohen's kappa values higher than 0.60 or 0.80 (75.0%). The concurrent validity (against the 3 OZ wst) presented a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 57.1%. For evaluator 1, the results presented are for the nectar, liquid and pudding consistencies, the prevalence values for the 5 ml, 10 ml and 20 ml volume capacity was: impaired lip closure (36%, 39%, 18%), piecemeal deglutition (50%, 50%, 50%), oral residue (7%, 0%, 9%), pharyngeal residue (25%, 17%, 9%) and safe swallowing (89%, 33%, 94%), respectively. © 2022 Elsevier España, S.L.U. y Asociación Española de Logopedia, Foniatría y Audiología e Iberoamericana de Fonoaudiología

An operational method to solve fractional differential equations

In this paper, we present an operational method for solving two fractional equations, namely, the Legendre and the Laguerre equations. Based on operational approach for the Laplace and Mellin, we obtain a particular solution as a generalized power series for both equations, where the fractional derivatives are defined in the Riemann-Liouville sense. We prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions via Banach fix point theorem.

Partition problems in graphs are extremely important in applications, as shown in the Data science and Machine learning literature. One approach is spectral partitioning based on a Fiedler vector, i.e., an eigenvector corresponding to the second smallest eigenvalue a(G) of the Laplacian matrix LG of the graph G. This problem corresponds to the minimization of a quadratic form associated with LG, under certain constraints involving the 2-norm. We introduce and investigate a similar problem, but using the 1-norm to measure distances. This leads to a new parameter b(G) as the optimal value. We show that a well-known cut problem arises in this approach, namely the sparsest cut problem. We prove connectivity results and different bounds on this new parameter, relate to Fiedler theory and show explicit expressions for b(G) for trees. An explicit formula for the monogenic Szegö kernel function on 3D spheroids

Complete orthogonal systems of monogenic polynomials over 3D prolate spheroids have been previously introduced and shown to have some important properties. In particular, the underlying functions take on values in the quaternion algebra (identified with R4 ), and are nullsolutions of the well known Moisil-Théodoresco system. In this paper we introduce a new complete orthogonal system of monogenic polynomials as solutions of this system for the space exterior to 3D prolate spheroids. Additionally, we show how monogenic polynomials for the interior and exterior of a spheroid look like once their values on the surface are prescribed. With the help of these polynomials an explicit expression of the monogenic Szegö kernel function over the surface of 3D spheroids is given.

Recent trends in Lisbon's winter tourism indicate a shift towards off-peak travel, attracting diverse visitors with its rich cultural heritage, sustainable initiatives, and extended stay options for digital nomads. The city's culinary scene, arts, wellness activities, and tech-driven tourism options enhance its appeal. Aligned with these recent trends, tourism in Lisbon's region during the winter season presents a unique and dynamic landscape influenced by a wide range of motivations, tourist profiles, and travel behaviours. This study aims to define distinctive clusters of winter tourists in Lisbon by analysing these key variables, providing valuable insights specific to the winter travel context. Based on a compiled dataset from the winter season in Lisbon, this study delves into examining the factors driving tourist visits, encompassing socio-economic backgrounds, travel frequency, and age demographics. We aim to reveal the distinctive subgroups that define Lisbon's winter tourist population, employing data analysis techniques such as cluster analysis. From an academic perspective, this study offers a novel tourist segmentation model based on motivations, profiles, and behaviour. This model enriches the existing body of knowledge in tourism studies, providing a valuable reference for future research. For tourism agents in Lisbon, this study provides actionable insights to enhance strategic decision-making. By segmenting winter tourists, they can tailor marketing strategies and product development to cater to diverse tourist segments. A stochastic fractional calculus with applications to variational principles

We introduce a stochastic fractional calculus. As an application, we present a stochastic fractional calculus of variations, which generalizes the fractional calculus of variations to stochastic processes. A stochastic fractional Euler–Lagrange equation is obtained, extending those available in the literature for the classical, fractional, and stochastic calculus of variations. THE MONOTONE-LIGHT FACTORIZATION FOR n-CATEGORIES VIA n-PREORDERS

Starting with a symmetric monoidal adjunction with certain properties, we derive another symmetric monoidal adjunction with the same properties between the respective categories of all V-categories. If we begin with a reflection of a full replete subcategory, the derived adjunction is also a reflection of the same kind. Semi-left-exactness (also called admissibility in categorical Galois theory) or the stronger stable units property is inherited by the derived reflection. Applying these results, we conclude that the reflection of the category of all n-categories into the category of n-preorders has stable units. Then, it is also shown that this reflection determines a monotone-light factorization system on n-categories, n ≥ 1, and that the light morphisms are precisely the n-functors faithful with respect to n-cells. In order to achieve such results, it was also shown that n-functors surjective both on vertically composable triples of horizontally composable pairs of n-cells, and on horizontally composable triples of vertically composable pairs of n-cells, are effective descent morphisms in the category of all n-categories nCat, n ≥ *** Codes 18M05, 18D20, 18A32, 18E50, 18N10 © 2023, CC BY.
