Enhanced catalytic oxidation of dichloromethane by a surfactant-modified CeO_(2)@TiO_(2) core-shell nanostructured catalyst

Surfactant-modified CeO_(2)@TiO_(2) core-shell nanostructure catalysts were prepared by coprecipitation with the addition of sodium dodecyl sulfonate(SDS),and their catalytic oxidation of dichloromethane(DCM) was studied.A 90% DCM conversion efficiency is obtained at 300℃ with the CeO_(2)@TiO_(2)SDS catalyst,and its catalytic stability in the 55 h test period is better than that of Ce/TiO_(2) and CeO_(2)@TiO_(2).Based on the characterization of CeO_(2)@TiO_(2)SDS,the dispersion of active components is promoted due to the inhibition of crystal growth with the introduction of *** improvement of surface acidity and redox capacity is beneficial to the enhancement of catalytic *** higher adsorbed oxygen content on the surface of the CeO_(2)@TiO_(2)SDS catalyst is responsible for the better catalytic ***,a novel method was developed to design catalytic oxidation catalysts for the treatment of chlorinated volatile organic compounds in future applications.

Mg-6Zn-2X(Fe/Cu/Ni)alloys were prepared through semi-continuous casting,with the aim of identifying a degradable magnesium(Mg)alloy suitable for use in fracturing balls.A comparative analysis was conducted to assess the impacts of adding Cu and Ni,which result in finer grains and the formation of galvanic corrosion *** electronic microscopy examination revealed that precipitated phases concentrated at grain boundaries,forming a semi-continuous network structure that facilitated corrosion penetration in Mg-6Zn-2Cu and Mg-6Zn-2Ni *** corrosion was observed in Mg-6Zn-2Fe,while galvanic corrosion was identified as the primary mechanism in Mg-6Zn-2Cu and Mg-6Zn-2Ni *** the tests,the Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloy exhibited the highest corrosion rate(approximately 932.9 mm/a)due to its significant potential *** testing showed that Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloy possessed suitable ultimate compressive strength,making it a potential candidate material for degradable fracturing balls,effectively addressing the challenges of balancing strength and degradation rate in fracturing applications.

A Three-Dimensional SPH Simulation of Lander Footpad Impact on a Lunar Regolith Bed

Landing spacecraft experience significant impact forces during landing,resulting in large deformation and failure in the soil surface,which severely affects landing safety and *** paper establishes a smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH)model based on the theory of soil elastoplastic constitutive relations to describe the process of a lander’s footpad impacting lunar regolith *** model can provide engineering indices such as impact load and penetration depth,and illustrate the large deformation and crater characteristics of the regolith.A detailed analysis of the response of the footpad and lunar regolith during landing reveals that the process can be broadly divided into two stages of rapid penetration and oscillatory ***,there are significant similarities in the landing process under different landing velocities and footpad *** research investigates the large deformation and crater characteristics of the lunar regolith *** results demonstrate two failure modes in the *** the impact of a footpad with a smaller mass,the final failure surface of the regolith exhibits a bowl-shaped profile with a uniformly open *** contrast,under the impact of a footpad with a larger mass,the final failure surface of the regolith presents an urn-shaped profile with a large abdomen and a small ***,the impact craters in both scenarios show a bowl-like *** cases of high-velocity impacts,the impact crater exhibits obvious blocky spalling on its *** SPH model developed in this study can be applied to predict the large deformation and failure response of lunar soil under the impact of rigid structures as well as the impact load and penetration *** effectively predicts the dynamic response of the landing process,which is expected to provide a reference for engineering design.

Efficient water disinfection with ball milled Mg-biochar: The key role of trace Cu

In this study, magnesium and coconut shell carbon (CSC) were prepared by a ball milled process and used for water disinfection with adsorbing tiny amounts of copper(II). Dissolved oxygen (DO) was reduced to hydrogen peroxide (H_(2)O_(2)) via a two-electron pathway by Mg corrosion. Cu(II) in the wastewater will be enriched on the CSC surface and efficiently catalyzes H2O2 for inactivating E. coli. The results show that E. coli with an initial concentration of approximately 106 CFU/mL was under the detection limit (<4 CFU/mL) within 15 min. All of the Cu(II) could be adsorbed by the composite and catalyzed H2O2 to different active species. The quenching experiments, electron spin resonance (ESR) capture measurements and the UV-vis spectroscopy detection confirmed the present of the hydroxyl radicals (·OH), superoxide radicals (·O_(2)^(-)) and Cu(III). Different with tradition Fenton like process, Cu(III), rather than radicals, played the major role during the Mg-CSC/Cu(II) process. In addition to the cellular membrane damage, most of the bacterial genomic DNA was also be degraded and the bacterial reactivation was avoided. The Mg-CSC/Cu(II) process also showed a satisfied disinfection performance in real wastewater treatment. Overall, this study provides a new strategy for water disinfection.

Industrial robots are increasingly being used to assist and replace workers in factories to address the global labor shortage in various applications. The use of robots can provide many benefits to the effective production and manufacturing. Taping is one of the robots' applications. However, current tape robots can only tape one strip at a time, which can be time-consuming in practice if multiple strips of tape are required at the same time for special workpieces. This paper presents a novel sticking adhesive tape robot system. As the object to be taped are four-line hot pipes to be attached on the outer shell of refrigerator, thus four strips of tape are required at the same time before assembly process. The proposed robot system contains the novel tooling called 'Quadruple Dispensing Heads'. This tooling was developed to tape four strips of tape to be applied simultaneously. This tooling can adjust the gap of tape strips from 80mm to 110mm. Moreover, the research objective is to produce a robot system that can apply tape with higher quality and faster than human workers, so that human workers can move on to more complicated tasks instead of performing repetitive, routine tasks that do not require such special skills and knowledge. As the result, our proposed system can achieve the four lines of *** length, through IS7N pushing force (when operate the air working pressure at ***) sticking taping task perfectly with 100% success rate of experiments in just 3 seconds and faster than human worker significantly. Since, human worker needs about 3 seconds per each I.5m taping line. Therefore, human needs approximately 12 seconds in total for four lines. Accordingly, our proposed robot system is faster than human worker in four times. © 2025 IEEE.

Relationships between hydrological connectivity and river-lake ecospace in urban-rural areas

Hydrological connectivity refers to a water-mediated transfer of matter, energy, and organisms in the hydrological cycle and plays a key role in shaping river-lake ecospace and their relevant functions. However, the river-lake ecospace is usually used to indicate static land units such as rivers, lakes, and riparian zones, which lack deep exploration of their relationships and connotations. As a functional space, the river-lake ecospace correlate with variations in hydrological connectivity in terms of structural and functional diversity along the unban-rural gradient. To better understand the relationship between hydrological connectivity and the river-lake ecospace, we first analyzed the characteristics and driving factors of hydrological connectivity in urban-rural areas and then summarized the distribution and functions of the river-lake ecospace. Based on these, we discussed the relationship between the variations in both of them in river-lake system from the aspects of structure, process, and function. Finally, we propose implications for regulating and optimizing the river-lake connectivity to expand the ecospace and enhance its functions. © 2025 The Authors

Landfast ice plays an important role in atmosphere‒ocean interactions and ecosystems in the near coast area of *** the characteristics and variations of landfast ice is crucial to the study of climates and field activities in *** this study,a high-resolution thermodynamic snow-ice(HIGHTSI)model was applied to simulate the seasonal changes of landfast ice along the Mawson Coast,East Antarctica,through ERA-Interim reanalysis *** ocean heat-flux(Fw)values(10,15,20 and 25 W m−2)were used in sensitivity *** results showed that it is reasonable to simulate landfast ice using the HIGHTSI model,and the simulation of landfast ice thickness matched best well with field measurements when Fw was 20 W m^(−2).Then,2-D distributions of landfast ice from 2006 to 2018 were modeled by HIGHTSI with 2-D ERA-Interim reanalysis data in a 0.125°×0.125°cell grid as external *** results showed that fast ice was thicker along the coast and thinner near open water,and usually reaches its maximal thickness in October,varying from 1.2 to 2.0 m through the study *** was no statistical trend for the thickness during the study period.

An elevation change dataset in Greenland ice sheet from 2003 to 2020 using satellite altimetry data

ABSTRACT A decade-long pronounced increase in temperatures in the Arctic resulted in a global warming hotspot over the Greenland ice sheet(GrIS).Associated changes in the cryosphere were the consequence and led to a demand for monitoring glacier changes,which are one of the major parameters to analyze the responses of the GrIS to climate ***-term altimetry data(***,CryoSat-2,and ICESat-2)can provide elevation changes over different periods,and many methods have been developed for altimetry alone to obtain elevation *** this work,we provided the long-term elevation change rate data of the GrIS in three different periods using ICESat data(from February 2003 to October 2009),Cryosat-2 data(from August 2010 to October 2018)and ICESat-2 data(from October 2018 to December 2020).Optimal methods were applied to the datasets collected by three different altimeters:crossover analysis for ICESat/ICESat-2 and the surface fit method for *** data revealed that the elevation change rates of the GrIS were-12.19±3.81 cm/yr,-19.70±3.61 cm/yr and-23.39±3.06 cm/yr in the three different periods,corresponding to volume change rates of-210.20±25.34 km^(3)/yr,-339.11±24.01 km^(3)/yr and-363.33±20.37 km^(3)/yr,*** general,the obtained results agree with the trends discovered by other studies that were also derived from satellite altimetry *** dataset provides the basic data for research into the impact of climate change over the *** dataset is available at https://***/10.57760/sciencedb.j00076.00121.

Geochemistry of Sediments from a Subalpine Lake Sedimentary Succession in the Western Nanling Mountains,Southern China:Implications for Catchment Weathering During the Last 15400 Years

In the present work,15400 yr old geochemical records of a core from the subalpine Daping swamp are presented with the aim to examine the relationship between the chemical weathering and the climatic changes in the region of the western Nanling Mountains,*** climate of the study region was deeply controlled by the East Asian summer *** results indicate that,in the past 15400 yrs,the values of chemical index of alteration(CIA)ranged from 73.9%to 88.2%(mean:85.3%),suggested a medium and high intensity of chemical *** local exogenous clastic materials,which were derived from the weathered residues,played a key role in contributing towards the *** the climate-induced chemical weathering exerted strong influences on the geochemical features of weathered residues,the geochemical characteristics of the sediments were deeply impacted by climatic *** and warmer conditions would favor increased chemical weathering,resulting in more leaching of soluble and mobile elements(e.g.,Ba and Sr)and leaving the resistant and immobile elements(e.g.,Al and Ti)enriched in the weathered *** materials were then eroded and transported into the lake,and led to the sediments characterized by the characteristic of having depleted soluble *** contrast,dry and cold conditions would result in an opposite *** this sense,the geochemical records can serve as proxies to indicate changes of chemical weathering intensity,which were closely related to the evolution of summer monsoon.
