The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and ubiquitous connectivity has led to uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) playing key role as edge servers, revolutionizing the wireless communications landscape by facilitating computing and caching resources closer to ground users (GUs). This advancement significantly alleviates core network loads, reduces latency, and guarantees content availability even in congested or remote areas. However, jointly optimizing UAV caching strategies and trajectories gives rise to a multi-task optimization (MTO) problem. This paper introduces a novel multi-task geo-temporal caching (MT-GTC) framework that addresses the interplay between UAV caching mechanisms and trajectory optimization in a cohesive manner. Leveraging a proposed multi-task learning (MTL) model for joint optimization of UAV caching and trajectory design, we develop a federated learning cloud-assisted knowledge distillation (FL-CAKD) scheme to preserve data privacy and adapt to data heterogeneity. FL-CAKD transfers knowledge from a cloud model orchestrator (CMO), which houses a large and sophisticated teacher model, to a lightweight on-device MTL student models using soft target distributions instead of large model parameters, significantly reducing communication costs. MT-GTC optimizes caching and trajectories to maximize cache hits and minimize latency. Evaluations on real-world mobility datasets demonstrate up to 95% cache hit rates and 21% lower delays compared to baselines. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

The right lane and platoon assignment to a vehicle significantly impacts achieving the desired driving goals to improve occupants’ safety or reduce pollution. Preparing an intelligent assistant to address this issue has exposed researchers’ attention, especially in intelligent transportation systems. Implementing such a system is complex and challenging to design, mainly because of conflicting driving goals possibility and the mixed traffic of autonomous and human-driven vehicles. This paper presents a multi-tier computational architecture to utilize the cloud, fog, and edge computational resources and formulate the lane/platoon assignment as an optimization problem subject to safety combined with any other secondary goal. The problem is then solved by the meta-heuristic Genetic Algorithm. By evaluating the proposed method by real data gathering, machine learning, and numerical experiments, the results show that the proposed method satisfies the minimization of overlapping collision areas during vehicles’ lane/platoon changes and harmonizes the traffic in all lanes and each platoon. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Intelligent Transportation Systems Japan 2024.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the Internet of Things (IoT) has transformed numerous domains through the AI of Things (AIoT). Nonetheless, AIoT encounters issues related to energy usage and carbon emissions as mobile technology continues to progress. Generative AI (GAI) possesses significant potential to mitigate carbon emissions associated with AIoT, owing to its higher reasoning and generative powers. Conventional security protocols frequently encounter issues with computational efficiency, latency, and overall security comprehensiveness. Blockchain technology, characterized by its decentralized and immutable properties, is a viable approach for improving electronic healthcare data transmission and node authentication in IoT networks. This research examines secure data transmission and node encryption in IoT systems, with a particular emphasis on data management. Conventional approaches encounter constraints in computational efficiency, latency, and comprehensive security. This study presents a novel protocol that combines GAI and blockchain technology with quantum encryption to enhance authentication and ensure secure data transmission. The algorithm comprises multiple consecutive processes, including the encoding and transmission of node requests, followed by the authentication process utilizing hash functions and digital signatures. The authentication approach utilizes a challenge-response technique, guaranteeing that only nodes with authentic credentials can advance. Thereafter, a dynamic key exchange protocol and quantum encryption method provide secure data delivery. The results indicate the procedure’s effectiveness in ensuring secure and regulated access to patient data, underscoring its significance in medical facilities. The system’s functionalities are augmented by a thorough evaluation employing machine learning. Students 'attendance in class is one important success parameter in face-to-face learning processes. Conventional attendance systems, such as paper-based attendance sheets or identity card systems, require a long time in the manual recapitulation process. Without additional verifications, even computer vision-based methods are prone to fraudulent practices by the students instead of gaining their excitement and attention in a class. To stimulate students' attention in a class, this work designs an intelligent class attendance system, in which facial pattern and smile recognition are implemented by using the latter as an additional task-based verification to reduce the risks of fake attendance. For the face recognition module, this pilot study used FaceNet as a feature extractor combined with SVM for classification, whereas the Haar cascade algorithm is used for recognizing smiles. This face recognition pipeline was implemented as a service installed on minicomputers or Internet of Things (IoT) devices in each classroom and connected to an IP camera. Every recorded attendance will be sent as a notification to a mobile application for students that requires their active participation to confirm it with a smiling self-photo. The proposed pipeline obtained 92.86% accuracy on the test data, and 66.67% accuracy when evaluated in a real-life simulation setting through the implemented system. The lower accuracy in the simulation indicated that further improvements are indispensable, especially since the model obtained 28.57% False Negative Rate. Future studies will need to acquire more data and experiment with more efficient methods of attendance verification. © 2023 IEEE.

Skin cancer diagnosis is difficult due to lesion presentation variability. Conventionalmethods struggle to manuallyextract features and capture lesions spatial and temporal variations. This study introduces a deep learning-basedConvolutional and Recurrent Neural Network (CNN-RNN) model with a ResNet-50 architecture which usedas the feature extractor to enhance skin cancer classification. Leveraging synergistic spatial feature extractionand temporal sequence learning, the model demonstrates robust performance on a dataset of 9000 skin lesionphotos from nine cancer types. Using pre-trained ResNet-50 for spatial data extraction and Long Short-TermMemory (LSTM) for temporal dependencies, the model achieves a high average recognition accuracy, surpassingprevious methods. The comprehensive evaluation, including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, underscoresthe model’s competence in categorizing skin cancer types. This research contributes a sophisticated model andvaluable guidance for deep learning-based diagnostics, also this model excels in overcoming spatial and temporalcomplexities, offering a sophisticated solution for dermatological diagnostics research.

in complex scheduling scenarios, such as the Job Scheduling Problem (JSP) faced by human operators, the challenge is to optimize the total time mandatory to complete all jobs and the reliability of the schedule. This paper presents a unified approach that combines constraint satisfaction (CSP) techniques with heuristic algorithms to resolve JSP using operators called JSO(n, p), where n is the number of tasks and p is the number of data. The main aims are to minimize the total time required to complete all tasks and to maximize system consistency under uncertainties such as equipment failure or operator unavailability. We analysis branch-and-bound (BB) methods, neural networks, and hybrid algorithms to achieve optimal software solutions. This paper also assesses the impact of bus constraints on traditional scheduling models and suggests solutions for reliability. The evaluation of various algorithmic strategies and extensive experiments on many sampling problems demonstrate the balance between robustness and optimality. © 2024 IEEE.

Detecting brain tumours is complex due to the natural variation in their location, shape, and intensity in images. While having accurate detection and segmentation of brain tumours would be beneficial, current methods still need to solve this problem despite the numerous available approaches. Precise analysis of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is crucial for detecting, segmenting, and classifying brain tumours in medical diagnostics. Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a vital component in medical diagnosis, and it requires precise, efficient, careful, efficient, and reliable image analysis techniques. The authors developed a Deep Learning (DL) fusion model to classify brain tumours reliably. Deep Learning models require large amounts of training data to achieve good results, so the researchers utilised data augmentation techniques to increase the dataset size for training models. VGG16, ResNet50, and convolutional deep belief networks networks extracted deep features from MRI images. Softmax was used as the classifier, and the training set was supplemented with intentionally created MRI images of brain tumours in addition to the genuine ones. The features of two DL models were combined in the proposed model to generate a fusion model, which significantly increased classification accuracy. An openly accessible dataset from the internet was used to test the model's performance, and the experimental results showed that the proposed fusion model achieved a classification accuracy of 98.98%. Finally, the results were compared with existing methods, and the proposed model outperformed them significantly.

Digital Image Processing (DIP) is the ability to manipulate digital photographs via algorithms for pattern detection, segmentation, enhancement, and noise reduction. In addition, the Internet of Things (IoT) acts as the eye and system for all DIP in various applications. It can possess a camera or another image sensor in order to capture real-time data from its environment. All vital data is processed by image processing in such a way that it recognizes the object, detects an anomaly, and automatically decides in real-time. In addition, in an IoT system, the median filter is the technique used for noise reduction by substituting the value of the pixel with the central value of the surrounding pixels. It provides speed and efficiency for quick analysis in all IoT systems. However, the images can get corrupted, especially in resource-constrained IoT devices with small cameras, because of random glitches. Moreover, using new quantum technology like atomic-scale silicon dangling bond (DB) logic circuits, which have advanced in fabrication and become a strong contender for field-coupled nano-computing, can solve previous problems in IoT systems. In this paper, we propose a unique quantum CSM based on two new proposed Mux and De-mux. The proposed CSM can be used for computational circuits like median filter circuits (MFC) in a wide range of digital circuits, specifically IoT devices. The proposed design is verified and validated using the powerful SiQAD tool. When comparing CSM to the newest designs, the suggested quantum circuit uses 85% less energy and takes up 61% less area. © 2014 IEEE.
