Since 2011, LUNARC has aimed to provide an interactive HPC environment for its resource users. Several different architectures have been used, but since 2013, we have been using a remote desktop environment based on Cendio's ThinLinc [1] combined with a custom backend framework, GfxLauncher [2], supporting hardware-accelerated graphics applications and Jupyter Notebooks [3] submitted to the backend cluster.

Language acquisition is an integral part of early schooling, but young English language learners struggle to learn vocabulary and syntax since they are not provided with specialized instruction. Conventional teaching may vary according to different learning speeds and it leads to unbalanced levels of proficiency among students and possibly leading to disengagement among slow learners. The present computer-assisted learning aids provide practice interactively but without real-time adaptation and personalized feedback, limiting their capacity to address learners’ unique problems. To overcome these constraints, this study suggests an Artificial Intelligence based personalized learning system that supports vocabulary and syntax learning via adaptive learning models, NLP-based chatbots and gamified interactive lessons. The system dynamically adapts content according to students’ most recent performance in real time to enable a personalized learning experience, which results in efficient Learning. The research has experimental study design, and two groups are considered, an AI-supported learning group and a traditional learning group. Pre-test and post-test design measures the effects of the system on vocabulary recall and syntax correctness. Other learner engagement rates like survey results and qualitative feedback inform learner experience and learning efficacy. Initial results indicate that learners working with the Artificial Intelligence powered learning system gained 25percent in recalling vocabulary and 30percent in syntax accuracy over the control group. Further, learner engagement rates are elevated because of real-time feedback and gamification components. These results emphasize the promise of AI-based personalized learning to boost language acquisition and lay the basis for further effective innovations in adaptive education technologies. © (2025), (Science and Information Organization). How the outer substance could penetrate through the skin lies in the stratum corneum, because it is the main barrier in the multi-layers of the skin. Supposing the keratin cell with a special geometry as tetrakaidecahedron, the penetration property of stratum corneum was the key problem which was numerically simulated with finite element method. At first the discretization of the stratum corneum region was given in two steps： first, the discretization of the keratin cell; second, the discretization of fattiness that surrounds the keratin. Then there was the work of numerical simulation. In this procedure, the finite element method and the multi-grid method were used. The former was to obtain the discretization of basic elements; the latter was to decrease the high frequency error. At last the visualization of the numerical simulation was shown.

Virtual storage management allows an efficient use of computer memory through the cooperative actions of the computer hardware and the operating system which are completely transparent to application programs. However, when program data exceed the available memory space, the program elapsed time may be dominated by the time spent in paging I/O operations. The data transfer rate, as determined by the operating system implementation of demand paging, may be small when compared with the maximum I/O bandwidth that the I/O hardware could ***-ahead is a technique which complements the operating system support of demand paging on virtual storage systems in order to exploit the regularity and predictability which is typical of the data access pattern of large engineering and scientific (E/S) application programs. Application programs may exploit this regularity by using page-ahead to request paging operations from the operating system in anticipation of future needs and take full advantage of the operating systems I/O bandwidth to auxiliary paging store.

By considering the imprecise or fuzzy nature of the data in real-world problems, a single machine scheduling problem with uncertainty demand is investigated. A triangular fuzzy number is used to represent the uncertainty demand, and a half-trapezoid one is employed to represent fuzzy duedate. On the basis of the agreement index of fuzzy duedate and fuzzy completion time, this problem is formulated with the objective to maximize the total weighting agreement indexes for all the customer orders. We presented a hybrid algorithm QPSO of particle swarm optimization （PSO） and quantum evolutionary algorithm （QEA） to solve this problem. In the proposed QPSO, some novel coding schemes are designed for transforming a particle into a feasible process sequence of customer orders. Moreover, a mutation mechanism is also introduced into the QPSO and improves the diversity of the swarm greatly. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed QPSO is demonstrated by some simulation experiments.

The drying of bi-component droplets may be divided into five stages, including initial droplet heating and evaporation (stage I), quasi-equilibrium evaporation of the volatile component (II), solid layer formation (III), boiling (IV) and drying (V). If the drying temperature is below the boiling temperature of the involved liquid, the boiling stage does not occur. For this situation, a numerical model for spherically symmetric droplets has been developed recently, taking into account the solid layer formation and its resistance on the evaporation process. In the present study, an extension of this model is developed to include the droplet drying in an gas environment above the boiling temperature, where all five stages occur. The results of numerical simulations are compared to experimental data, where the drying of acoustically levitated mannitol-water droplets in hot gas is studied. The numerical results show that the model captures the principal droplet/particle temperature development suggested in the literature. When the pressure inside the particle causes higher structural stress than the solid layer can sustain, a crack occurs, enabling the vapor inside the particle to escape through this crack, which leads to a decrease of both pressure and temperature inside the particle. After the pressure adjusts to that of the surrounding air, the crack closes and heals, which, in turn, leads to pressure increase inside the particle, and this cycle may repeat. The numerically predicted temporal development of the size of the particle surface area is validated by comparison with experimental data obtained by shadowgraphy. The new model accurately predicts the experimentally observed final particle size, which is highly affected by the particle expansion during the boiling stage, as well as its porosity. This study offers and explores fractional models derived from a classical Pharmacokinetics (PK) compartmental system. The fractional models are essentially enlarged versions of the classical model, and their distinguishing characteristics are further examined comprehensively. Through numerical simulations using the Grunwald–Letnikov finite difference method, we demonstrate that fractional PK models provide a more realistic representation of drug dynamics compared to classical model. It is demonstrated that certain model features are incompatible with the idea of mass balance. However, they appeared to surpass classical calculus theory when simulating anomalous kinetics. We demonstrate this behaviour through stability analysis of the equilibrium point under conditions of different fractional orders as well as fitting the proposed models to an experimental data set (amiodarone), thereby estimating parameters using the least-square approach. The findings reveal that fractional pharmacokinetic models provide a more accurate and physically realistic representation of drug distribution, capturing memory effects and non-exponential drug elimination. This ensures better agreement with experimental observations compared to classical integer-order models.

IP networks, composing the Internet, form a central part of the information infrastructure of the modern society. Integrated approaches to the assessment of their dependability are, however, only emerging. This paper presents three contributions for meeting this challenge. First, we propose an adaptation of the safety case methodology, a 'dependability case' approach, as a practical form of organizing heterogeneous information concerning the dependability of a large communication network. The idea is to build structured argumentation for the support of dependability claims, making use of various kinds of evidences. Second, we suggest a conceptual framework for considering the dependability of IP networks in an integrated way. Third, we propose to structure dependability cases of IP networks according to the main aspects of dependability, rather than structural units or layers of the network. The proposed methodology is tested on the Finnish University Network and found promising. © 2008 IEEE.

Eagle+: A fast incremental approach to automaton and table online updates for cloud services

Automaton or table-based multi-pattern matching methods have been widely used in cloud services, i.e., virtual Firewall service, virtual IDS service, etc. In cloud, a large scale of patterns in such services are frequently updated causing by users’ joining or quitting and adjustment of security and management policies. Therefore, how to quickly and accurately update the Automaton and Table becomes an important issue. In this paper, we propose Eagle+, an incremental approach for updating the matching Automaton and Table whilst avoiding recalculating the whole patterns after each change. In Eagle+, we attain efficiency by computing only the latest update set of patterns when updating the Automaton and Table. Moreover, Eagle+ achieves accurately local updating based on three atomic operations, adding, updating and deleting, each of which modifies values on classical Aho–Corasick (AC) automaton, Set Backward Oracle Matching (SBOM) automaton and Wu–Manber (WM) table. Compared with existing pattern updating methods, Eagle+ reduces the computation complexity from O(n2) to O(n). The experimental results show that Eagle+ can save nearly 72%–92% of the time consumption in updating automatons and perform 100X faster in WM table. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.
