We initiate the study of quantum algorithms for optimizing approximately convex functions. Given a convex set K ⊆ ℝn and a function F : ℝn → ℝ such that there exists a convex function f : K → ℤ satisfying supx∈K |F(x) - f(x)| ≤ ε/n, our quantum algorithm finds an x* ∈ K such that F(x*) - minx∈K F(x) ≤ ε using Õ(n3) quantum evaluation queries to F. This achieves a polynomial quantum speedup compared to the best-known classical algorithms. As an application, we give a quantum algorithm for zeroth-order stochastic convex bandits with Õ(n5 log2 T) regret, an exponential speedup in T compared to the classical (√T) lower bound. Technically, we achieve quantum speedup in n by exploiting a quantum framework of simulated annealing and adopting a quantum version of the hit-and-run walk. Our speedup in T for zeroth-order stochastic convex bandits is due to a quadratic quantum speedup in multiplicative error of mean estimation.

Active vision is inherently attention-driven:an agent actively selects views to attend in order to rapidly perform a vision task while improving its internal representation of the scene being *** by the recent success of attention-based models in 2D vision tasks based on single RGB images, we address multi-view depth-based active object recognition using an attention mechanism, by use of an end-to-end recurrent 3D attentional network. The architecture takes advantage of a recurrent neural network to store and update an internal representation. Our model,trained with 3D shape datasets, is able to iteratively attend the best views targeting an object of interest for recognizing it. To realize 3D view selection, we derive a 3D spatial transformer network. It is dierentiable,allowing training with backpropagation, and so achieving much faster convergence than the reinforcement learning employed by most existing attention-based models. Experiments show that our method, with only depth input, achieves state-of-the-art next-best-view performance both in terms of time taken and recognition accuracy.

Coulomb and Franklin’s electricity laws are used in this paper to model an efficient optimization algorithm based on electric particle searches, which has been named CFA. For the CFA optimizer, the influence of electrically charged particles on each other in charged things has been predicated on the forces of attraction and repulsion. Evolutionary algorithms (EA) such as hybrid real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) which combines the global and local search (GL-25), differential evolution (DE) with strategy adaptation (SaDE), composite DE (CoDE), the improved standard particle swarm optimization 2011 (SPSO2013) and the grouped comprehensive learning PSO (GCLPSO) are compared to the CFA optimizer for finding global solutions of seven basic benchmark functions of high dimension D = 50. (GCLPSO). Experiments have shown that the suggested CFA optimizer is quite effective and competitive for the benchmark functions. With the continuous development of IoT, a number of sensors establish on the roadside to monitor traffic conditions in real time. The continuously traffic data generated by these sensors makes traffic management feasible. However, loss of data may occur due to inevitable sensor failure, impeding traffic managers to understand traffic dynamics clearly. In this situation, it is becoming a necessity to predict missing traffic flow accurately for effective traffic management. Furthermore, the traffic sensor data are often distributed and stored by different agencies, which inhibits the multi-party sensor data sharing significantly due to privacy concerns. Therefore, it has become a major obstacle to balance the tradeoff between data sharing and vehicle privacy. In light of these challenges, we propose a privacy-aware and accurate missing traffic flow prediction approach based on time-aware Locality-Sensitive Hashing technique. At last, we deploy a set of experiments based on a real traffic dataset. Experimental reports demonstrate the feasibility of our proposal in terms of traffic flow prediction accuracy and efficiency while guaranteeing sensor data privacy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Although using convolutional neural networks(CNNs)for computer-aided diagnosis(CAD)has made tremendous progress in the last few years,the small medical datasets remain to be the major bottleneck in this *** address this problem,researchers start looking for information out of the medical *** efforts mainly leverage information from natural images via transfer *** recent research work focuses on integrating knowledge from medical practitioners,either letting networks resemble how practitioners are trained,how they view images,or using extra *** this paper,we propose a scheme named Domain Guided-CNN(DG-CNN)to incorporate the margin information,a feature described in the consensus for radiologists to diagnose cancer in breast ultrasound(BUS)*** DG-CNN,attention maps that highlight margin areas of tumors are first generated,and then incorporated via different approaches into the *** have tested the performance of DG-CNN on our own dataset(including 1485 ultrasound images)and on a public *** results show that DG-CNN can be applied to different network structures like VGG and ResNet to improve their *** example,experimental results on our dataset show that with a certain integrating mode,the improvement of using DG-CNN over a baseline network structure ResNet 18 is 2.17%in accuracy,1.69%in sensitivity,2.64%in specificity and 2.57%in AUC(Area Under Curve).To the best of our knowledge,this is the first time that the margin information is utilized to improve the performance of deep neural networks in diagnosing breast cancer in BUS images.

SEOpinion: Summarization and Exploration Opinion of E-Commerce Websites

E-Commerce (EC) websites provide a large amount of useful information that exceed human cognitive processing ability. In order to help customers in comparing alternatives when buying a product, previous studies designed opinion summarization systems based on customer reviews. They ignored templates’ information provided by manufacturers, although these descriptive information have much product aspects/characteristics. Therefore, this paper proposes a methodology coined as SEOpinion (Summarization and Exploration of Opinions) which provides a summary for the product aspects and spots opinion(s) regarding them, using a combination of templates’ information with the customer reviews in two main phases. First, the Hierarchical Aspect Extraction (HAE) phase creates a hierarchy of product aspects from the template. Subsequently, the Hierarchical Aspect-based Opinion Summarization (HAOS) phase enriches this hierarchy with customers’ opinions;to be shown to other potential buyers. To test the feasibility of using Deep Learning-based BERT techniques with our approach, we have created a corpus by gathering information from the top five EC websites for laptops. The experimental results show that Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) achieves better results (77.4% and 82.6% in terms of F1-measure for the first and second phase) than the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and the Support Vector Machine (SVM) technique. Optimizing Irregular Communication with Neighborhood Collectives and Locality-Aware Parallelism

Irregular communication often limits both the performance and scalability of parallel applications. Typically, applications individually implement irregular messages using point-to-point communications, and any optimizations are added directly into the application. As a result, these optimizations lack portability. There is no easy way to optimize point-to-point messages within MPI, as the interface for single messages provides no information on the collection of all communication to be performed. However, the persistent neighbor collective API, released in the MPI 4 standard, provides an interface for portable optimizations of irregular communication within MPI libraries. This paper presents methods for optimizing irregular communication within neighborhood collectives, analyzes the impact of replacing point-to-point communication in existing codebases such as Hypre BoomerAMG with neighborhood collectives, and finally shows an up to 1.32x speedup on sparse matrix-vector multiplication within a BoomerAMG solve through the use of our optimized neighbor collectives. The authors analyze multiple implementations of neighborhood collectives, including a standard implementation, which simply wraps standard point-to-point communication, as well as multiple implementations of locality-aware aggregation. All optimizations are available in an open-source codebase, MPI Advance, which sits on top of MPI, allowing for optimizations to be added into existing codebases regardless of the system MPI install. © 2023, CC BY.

The widespread use of Android smartphones in daily life can be attributed to the extensive prevalence stemming from the Android OS and the availability of opensource applications. People have become accustomed to performing various tasks, such as online banking transactions, scheduling appointments, attending virtual meetings and classes, and online shopping, on their mobile devices instead of computers. However, the significant use of mobile phones also presents opportunities for attackers to access sensitive and confidential information without the user's knowledge. Intruders often use malicious applications found on the Google Play Store and other third-party app markets. The increased volume of Android malware in recent years has severely threatened human privacy and security. In this paper, we present a novel solution that utilizes a stacking ensemble machine learning approach to detect whether an application is malware or benign, which achieved 98% accuracy and F1-Score, and to identify the malware category with 96% accuracy and F1-Score. We conducted the experiment on the CCCS-CIC-AndMal-2020 dataset, which comprises 27,125 samples. Static features such as permissions, meta-data, and intents were analyzed, and the performance of standard machine learning algorithms was compared to our proposed model. Our results demonstrate that the stacked ensemble model shows promising results for malware detection (binary classification) and malware type classification (multi-class classification).

Data deduplication is a highly efficient method for data storage, providing significant benefits in terms of storage utilization and cost reduction in large-scale storage systems. This research introduces a novel approach to dynamic chunk allocation in deduplication systems, aiming to minimize fragmentation and enhance read performance by leveraging supported SSD commands. The write strategy is intelligently determined based on the popularity of chunks within each die, optimizing overall system performance. Additionally, we introduce a read/write unit based on the plane level to harness the internal parallelism of SSDs. Through extensive simulations, our proposed design demonstrates an average performance improvement of 18.8%, highlighting our approach’s effectiveness and impact.

Goal-Oriented Requirements Engineering (GORE) plays a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between stakeholders in system development. Through the use of goal models, GORE provides a structured approach for eliciting, analyzing, and managing requirements from the perspective of stakeholders' goals and intentions. However, goal models are susceptible to poor practices, called also bad smells, that may hinder the effective communication and understanding among stakeholders, potentially leading to misinterpretations and inconsistencies in requirements. In particular, goal models are prone to linguistic bad smells encompassing a spectrum of anoma-lies such as unclear or ambiguous goal statements, conflicting or contradictory requirements, and instances of misspellings. Therefore, identifying and addressing linguistic bad smells in goal models is crucial for ensuring the quality and accuracy of goal models. In this paper, we define seventeen linguistic bad smells in goal models, classified into four categories: Syntax, Semantics, Pragmatics, and Complexity. Furthermore, we provide Natural Language Processing (NLP) based detection methods for twelve specific bad smells, which we have automated to target Textual GRL (TGRL) models. The proposed approach and tool are evaluated using two TGRL models achieving an F2-Score of 0.8.
