Phishing attacks present a serious threat to enterprise systems,requiring advanced detection techniques to protect sensitive *** study introduces a phishing email detection framework that combines Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers(BERT)for feature extraction and CNN for classification,specifically designed for enterprise information ***’s linguistic capabilities are used to extract key features from email content,which are then processed by a convolutional neural network(CNN)model optimized for phishing *** an accuracy of 97.5%,our proposed model demonstrates strong proficiency in identifying phishing *** approach represents a significant advancement in applying deep learning to cybersecurity,setting a new benchmark for email security by effectively addressing the increasing complexity of phishing attacks.

Multilingual text recognition (MLTR) systems typically focus on a fixed set of languages, which makes it difficult to handle newly added languages or adapt to ever-changing data distribution. In this paper, we propose the Incremental MLTR (IMLTR) task in the context of incremental learning (IL), where different languages are introduced in batches. IMLTR is particularly challenging due to rehearsal-imbalance, which refers to the uneven distribution of sample characters in the rehearsal set, used to retain a small amount of old data as past memories. To address this issue, we propose a Multiplexed Routing Network (MRN). MRN trains a recognizer for each language that is currently seen. Subsequently, a language domain predictor is learned based on the rehearsal set to weigh the recognizers. Since the recognizers are derived from the original data, MRN effectively reduces the reliance on older data and better fights against catastrophic forgetting, the core issue in IL. We extensively evaluate MRN on MLT17 and MLT19 datasets. It outperforms existing general-purpose IL methods by large margins, with average accuracy improvements ranging from 10.3% to 35.8% under different settings. Continual Pre-Training for Cross-Lingual LLM Adaptation: Enhancing Japanese Language Capabilities

Cross-lingual continual pre-training of large language models (LLMs) initially trained on English corpus allows us to leverage the vast amount of English language resources and reduce the pre-training cost. In this study, we constructed Swallow, an LLM with enhanced Japanese capability, by extending the vocabulary of Llama 2 to include Japanese characters and conducting continual pre-training on a large Japanese web corpus. Experimental results confirmed that the performance on Japanese tasks drastically improved through continual pre-training, and the performance monotonically increased with the amount of training data up to 100B tokens. Consequently, Swallow achieved superior performance compared to other LLMs that were trained from scratch in English and Japanese. An analysis of the effects of continual pre-training revealed that it was particularly effective for Japanese question answering tasks. Furthermore, to elucidate effective methodologies for cross-lingual continual pre-training from English to Japanese, we investigated the impact of vocabulary expansion and the effectiveness of incorporating parallel corpora. The results showed that the efficiency gained through vocabulary expansion had no negative impact on performance, except for the summarization task, and that the combined use of parallel corpora enhanced translation ability. © 2024, CC BY.

When making decisions, individuals often seek advice from their family, friends, and social network connections. In this way, individ-uals’ opinions are susceptible to influence from their connections’ viewpoints. For example, in elections, individuals may initially support one party, while social influence may sway their choice to another. A recent study by Stewart et al. introduced a metric, influence assortment, to quantify the phenomenon of information gerrymandering that one party can influence more voters from other parties by strategically distributing their members among the social networks. While this metric correlates strongly with voting outcomes, the finding is only suitable for two-party elections. In this paper, we define the influence assortment that incorporates the level of similarity (homophily) among neighbours in the social network and extend it to multi-party elections. We examine its ability to predict voting outcomes when all parties initially have equal votes and average degrees. Through simulations using a stochastic model of voting behaviour, we demonstrate that the correlation between the influence gap and vote difference is a strong predictor in both small and large scale-free networks. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.

Accurate wait-time prediction for HPC jobs contributes to a positive user experience but has historically been a challenging task. Previous models lack the accuracy needed for confident predictions, and many were developed before the rise of deep *** this work, we investigate and develop TROUT, a neural network-based model to accurately predict wait times for jobs submitted to the Anvil HPC cluster. Data was taken from the Slurm Workload Manager on the cluster and transformed before performing additional feature engineering from jobs' priorities, partitions, and states. We developed a hierarchical model that classifies job queue times into bins before applying regression, outperforming traditional methods. The model was then integrated into a CLI tool for queue time prediction. This study explores which queue time prediction methods are most applicable for modern HPC systems and shows that deep learning-based prediction models are viable solutions.

Ethereum is currently the second largest blockchain by market capitalization and a popular platform for cryptocurrencies. As it has grown, the high value present and the anonymity afforded by the technology have led Ethereum to become a hotbed for various cybercrimes. This paper seeks to understand how these fraudulent schemes may be characterized and develop methods for detecting them. One key feature introduced by Ethereum is the ability to use programmable smart contracts to execute code on the blockchain. A common use of smart contracts is implementing fungible tokens with the ERC-20 interface. Such tokens can be used to impersonate legitimate tokens and defraud users. By parsing the event logs emitted by these ERC-20 contracts over 20 different periods of 100K blocks, we construct token transfer graphs for each of the available ERC-20 tokens on the blockchain. By analyzing these graphs, we find a set of characteristics by which suspicious contracts are distinguished from legitimate ones. These observations result in a simple model that can identify scam contracts with an average of 88.7% accuracy. This suggests that the mechanism by which fraudulent schemes function strongly correlates with their transfer graphs and that these graphs may be used to improve scam-detection mechanisms, contributing to making Ethereum safer. © 2025, CC BY.

Tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery via semi-supervised learning

Identifying cancer-related differentially expressed genes provides significant information for diagnosing tumors, predicting prognoses, and effective treatments. Recently, deep learning methods have been used to perform gene differential expression analysis using microarray-based high-throughput gene profiling and have achieved good results. In this study, we proposed a new robust multiple-datasetsbased semi-supervised learning model, MSSL, to perform tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery across multiple tumor types and multiple datasets, which addressed the following long-lasting obstacles:(1) the data volume of the existing single dataset is not enough to fully exert the advantages of deep learning;(2) a large number of datasets from different research institutions cannot be effectively used due to inconsistent internal variances and low quality;(3) relatively uncommon cancers have limited effects on deep learning methods. In our article, we applied MSSL to The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) and the Gene Expression Comprehensive Database(GEO) pan-cancer normalized-level3 RNA-seq data and got 97.6% final classification accuracy, which had a significant performance leap compared with previous approaches. Finally, we got the ranking of the importance of the corresponding genes for each cancer type based on classification results and validated that the top genes selected in this way were biologically meaningful for corresponding tumors and some of them had been used as biomarkers, which showed the efficacy of our method.

It is estimated that over 60% of people around the globe consume alcohol and cigars daily. Many people use them beyond the permitted limit, which causes lung cancer, liver and kidney failure. If there is a system that could monitor their intake level, it will alert them in case of excess consumption, which could help them control the intake. To help the users monitor their consumption, we introduce Cleo Eyeglasses in this paper. Cleo is a wearable spectacle device with a mounted camera and single onboard computer that performs custom trained object recognition to identify alcoholic beverages and cigarettes. Upon recognition, a log is automatically maintained in the corresponding mobile application. If the intake exceeds the user threshold, then our system generates an alert to both the user and concerned medical personnel. Cigarette/alcohol consumption can immediately affect the body without noticeable symptoms. Cleo addresses this with keen monitoring of vital body parameters and generates an alert when abnormalities are detected. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
