Multi-fidelity approaches are emerging as effective strategies in computational science to handle otherwise intractable tasks like Uncertainty Quantification (UQ), training of Machine Learning (ML) models, and optimization, for expensive high-fidelity applications in which the amount of available simulations or data is limited. The main idea is simple: large datasets generated for low-fidelity approximations of the problem at hand are fused with a much sparser dataset for the target (high-fidelity) system. In this paper, we build on our recent success in designing random Fourier Neural Networks (rFNNs) [1] to target problems arising in wind energy applications and in particular problems of interest for hurricane modeling. In this context, data for the high-fidelity models are limited and lower fidelity alternatives are needed. In this work, we introduce a novel multi-fidelity training approach for our rFNNs and demonstrate its use on a simple verification problem and on a hurricane modeling problem in which high-fidelity data are generated via Large-Eddy Simulations (LES), while low-fidelity data are given by a mesoscale model. Initial results demonstrate how the multi-fidelity training approach can improve the quality of the resulting surrogate. © 2025, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. Net load forecasting is crucial for energy planning and facilitating informed decision-making regarding trade and load distributions. However, evaluating forecasting models' performance against benchmark models remains challenging, thereby impeding experts' trust in the model's performance. In this context, there is a demand for technological interventions that allow scientists to compare models across various timeframes and solar penetration levels. This paper introduces a visual analytics-based application designed to compare the performance of deep-learning-based net load forecasting models with other models for probabilistic net load forecasting. This application employs carefully selected visual analytic interventions, enabling users to discern differences in model performance across different solar penetration levels, dataset resolutions, and hours of the day over multiple months. We also present observations made using our application through a case study, demonstrating the effectiveness of visualizations in aiding scientists in making informed decisions and enhancing trust in net load forecasting models.

We consider a reconfiguration version of the homomorphism problem HomM(N) for binary matroids N. This reconfiguration problem, RecolM(N), asks, for two homomorphisms φ and ψ of a matroid M to N, if there is a path of homomorphism from φ to ψ such that consecutive homomorphism in the path differ on a single cocircuit of N. We show that this problem is trivial in the case that N is, or dismantles to, the graphic matroid M(K2), and that the problem is PSPACE-complete when N is the graphic matroid M(K3), M(K4), or any graphic matroid containing M(K5).MSC Codes 05C15, 05B35 © 2025, CC BY.

Human Learning optimization (HLO) is a novel potential and promising meta-heuristic, which is developed based on a simplified human learning model. In recent years, the hypothesis that the human cognitive process obeys the laws of quantum rather than classical probability has been successfully used to explain a variety of seemingly "irrational" judgment and human decision-making behaviors, and the independent evidence for this hypothesis has been provided from different experiments. Inspired by this hypothesis, this paper introduces a quantum cognition model of humans into HLO and proposes a quantum-like human learning optimization algorithm (QHLO), in which the belief and its change in human brains during the learning process is simulated and implemented in the search of the algorithm. The developed QHLO is validated on the benchmark functions, and the performance is compared with one recent HLO variants, two quantum-inspired meta-heuristics and two recent binary meta-heuristics. The experimental results show that that the presented QHLO inherits the advantages of HLO and has better global search ability as its diversity is further enhanced with the integration of the quantum cognition model. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The aim of this article is to study the singular perturbations for a class of elliptic variational–hemivariational inequalities without strong monotonicity and relaxed monotonicity hypotheses. First, we prove existence of solutions to the original variational–hemivariational inequality under consideration, and its singular perturbation problem by applying an existence theorem for nonlinear equilibrium problems. Then, we provide a convergence result stating that the Kuratowski weak-upper limit of solution sets to singular perturbation problem coincides with the Kuratowski strong-upper limit of solution set to singular perturbation problem, and it is a nonempty subset of the solution set of original variational–hemivariational inequality. The singular perturbation analysis is completely new in the literature. Finally, in order to demonstrate the applicability of the results, an obstacle elliptic inclusion problem with convex subdifferential term, p-Laplace operator, and generalized Clarke's subdifferential operator, is studied. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Objective: To comprehensively explore the mechanism of action of Scrofula ointment in treating gastric cancer by network pharmacology and molecular docking, utilizing GO, KEGG and PPI interactions. METHODS: There are 31 active compounds in Scrofula ointment components, which regulate 187 targets in the human body, and there are 862 significant mutated genes in gastric cancer, and a total of 31 intersecting genes in Scrofula ointment and gastric cancer. All of these 31 genes were significantly differently expressed in normal and gastric cancer tissues. Biological process (BP) enrichment yielded 1000 entries, cellular composition (CC) enrichment yielded 159 entries, and molecular function (MF) enrichment yielded 247 entries. KEGG signaling pathway enrichment yielded 211 signaling pathways. The PPI interactions and the construction of herbal medicine-active ingredient-target-disease gene network map yielded that the active ingredient of Poria cocos,rosemarinic acid, quercetin, harpagide, anguloside C, kombuchin and hesperidin, modulated AKT1, TNF, ANXA1, and NR3C1 to play a therapeutic role in the treatment of gastric cancer, where the molecular docking were all <-5, which was significant. CONCLUSION:rosemarinic acid, quercetin, harpagide, anguloside C, kombuchin and hesperidin in Scrofula ointment plays a role in treating gastric cancer by regulating the genes of AKT1, TNF, ANXA1 and NR3C1 in gastric cancer cells.

Wireless network optimization is essential for improving the network performance in mobile communications. However, due to the stochastic nature of wireless networks, existing schemes based on analytical models and deterministic optimization are less reliable. To this end, we design a framework for robust network optimization based on deep generative models and stochastic optimization. Inspired by the powerful diffusion process, we propose a deep generative simulator to capture the statistical distribution of the network performance. By sampling from the deep generative simulator, we can alleviate the inherent uncertainty related to the network performance and devise an innovative expectation-quantile-based stochastic objective function. The inner expectation is designed for the temporal statistics, while the outer quantile is developed for the spatial statistics. This designated two-tier objective function is capable of mitigating temporal fluctuations and ensuring satisfactory network performance across most geographical grids, thereby achieving robustness. To solve this stochastic optimization problem, a smooth zeroth-order approach is introduced by taking advantage of the unique structure of quantile functions. Through theoretical performance analysis and simulation experiments with real-world datasets, we demonstrate the superiority of our approach over other baseline schemes, highlighting its practical utility in robust network optimization. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

The article proposes a method for assessing the static stability of a power system in incomplete-phase modes. An analysis of permissible power system modes in the event of incomplete-phase operating modes is performed. A general approach to solving the problem of finding reserves of static aperiodic stability is formulated, with the help of which generalized equations of limit modes are obtained. The influence of a controlled shunt reactor on the throughput of intersystem power transmission lines is considered. A method for determining the limits of aperiodic static stability is developed, taking into account the asymmetry caused by the incomplete phase mode of operation. Experimental studies have been conducted that have shown the effectiveness of applying the developed method for finding limit states in the direction of weighting to solve practical problems of estimating reserves of static aperiodic stability. The work comprehensively considers the problem of asymmetric modes in main electric networks using the example of a positional model of the electric power system. Special attention is paid to introducing into the region of permissible modes according to the criterion of static stability according to the criteria of the power transmission node and, accordingly, the transmitted power along the power transmission lines. To introduce into the region of permissible modes, controlled shunt reactors are used with the corresponding developed voltage regulation law, which ensures that the maximum permissible voltage values along the line route and in the nodes of the positional model are not exceeded. The work also evaluates the influence of the incomplete phase mode on the voltage values in the nodes under conditions of different numbers of phases of shunt reactor groups. © 2025

An exact duality theory for semidefinite programming and its complexity implications

In this paper, an exact dual is derived for Semidefinite Programming (SDP), for which strong duality properties hold without any regularity assumptions. Its main features are: (i) The new dual is an explicit semidefinite program with polynomially many variables and polynomial size coefficient bitlengths. (ii) If the primal is feasible, then it is bounded if and only if the dual is feasible. (iii) When the primal is feasible and bounded, then its optimum value equals that of the dual, or in other words, there is no duality gap. Further, the dual attains this common optimum value. (iv) It yields a precise theorem of the alternative for semidefinite inequality systems, i.e. a characterization of the infeasibility of a semidefinite inequality in terms of the feasibility of another polynomial size semidefinite inequality. The standard duality for linear programming satisfies all of the above features, but no such explicit gap-free dual program of polynomial size was previously known for SDP, without Slater-like conditions being assumed. The dual is then applied to derive certain complexity results for SDP. The decision problem of Semidefinite Feasibility (SDFP), which asks to determine if a given semidefinite inequality system is feasible, is the central problem of interest, he complexity of SDFP is unknown, but we show the following: (i) In the Turing machine model, the membership or nonmembership of SDFP in NP and Co-NP is simultaneous;hence SDFP is not NP-Complete unless NP = Co-NP. (ii) In the real number model of Blum, Shub and Smale, SDEP is in NP boolean AND Co-NP. (C) 1997 The Mathematical Programming Society, Inc. Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
