In this paper, system identification and neural network predictive control (NNPC) of a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) is presented. The control problem with the objective of set point tracking between several modes is investigated. The real measurements of this process are used in system identification. Artificial networks such as MultiLayer Perceptron (MLP), Radial Basis Function (RBF), and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference Systems (ANFIS) are applied as the intelligent identifiers to system identification. Neural network predictive control is utilized to control of continuous stirred tank reactor output. The predictive control strategy is used to calculate optimal control inputs. Two viewpoints are considered in neural network predictive control. One of them is based on neural network model of continuous stirred tank reactor and another one is based on dynamical model of continuous stirred tank reactor. Simulation results show the validity and feasibility of the proposed methods to neural network predictive control of continuous stirred tank reactor process.

Recently video-based data collection has been widely used in intelligent transportation systems. For instance, traffic flow monitoring at an intersection is one of these systems used for transportation network analysis. Main problems in intersection monitoring are vehicle detection and tracking. In this paper, we have developed and implemented a video-based vehicle detection and tracking system. The vehicle detection method is based on a combination of background estimation and dynamic texture modeling. After extracting vehicles from the video frames, a point tracking method has been used for prediction of vehicles' central points in the next frames. Weighted recursive least square has been used for point tracking purpose. Moreover, to solve the occlusion of two or more vehicles problem, fast normalized cross correlation algorithm has been used as a template matching method. The reported experimental results, verify the effectiveness of proposed method in vehicle tracking when occlusions occurs.

Color Doppler Twinkling Artifact (TA) images acquired from the internal body stones contain coded information about the roughness level of the tissue calculi which can be used for treatment management. The TA time series however have never been mathematically studied for roughness identification. This paper investigates the feasibility of estimating the roughness level of a surface by analyzing its TA time series. The TA data of a roughness phantom was used in this study in 2 classes and 1000 TA time series were extracted for each of the classes. Then, three subsets of temporal, spectral, and wavelet features were extracted from each time series. Next, the Bayesian and Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifiers were employed for roughness differentiations. The performance of the proposed method was investigated for cross-comparison of feature subsets, classifiers, and dimension reduction efficiency. Results showed that with only first two principle components projected from the extracted features, an accuracy of 96.06% was obtained which proves the feasibility of roughness recognition by time series analysis of the TA data.

In this paper, Ethernet-based solutions for fieldbus interoperability is discussed. In order to evaluate whether real-time requirements can be met, the maximum communication delay between PROFIBUS and CAN on switched Ethernet is calculated.
