Deep-Fakes have sparked concerns throughout the world because of their potentially explosive consequences. A dystopian future where all forms of digital media are potentially compromised and public trust in Government is scarce doesn't seem far off. If not dealt with the requisite seriousness, the situation could easily spiral out of control. Current methods of Deep-Fake detection aim to accurately solve the issue at hand but may fail to convince a lay-person of its reliability and thus, lack the trust of the general public. Since the fundamental issue revolves around earning the trust of human agents, the construction of interpretable and also easily explainable models is imperative. We propose a framework to detect these Deep-Fake videos using a Deep Learning Approach: we have trained a Convolutional Neural Network architecture on a database of extracted faces from FaceForensics' DeepFakeDetection Dataset. Furthermore, we have tested the model on various Explainable AI techniques such as LRP and LIME to provide crisp visualizations of the salient regions of the image focused on by the model. The prospective and elusive goal is to localize the facial manipulations caused by Faceswaps. We hope to use this approach to build trust between AI and Human agents and to demonstrate the applicability of XAI in various real-life scenarios.

Industries, household communities consume a lot of water on regular basis, thereby increasing water crisis. There is continuous increase in water consumption by industries. Reusing wastewater can reduce water withdrawals from local water sources thus increasing water availability, lowering wastewater discharges and their pollutant load, reducing thermal energy consumption and, potentially, processing cost. Various ways have been implemented for recycling the generated wastewater. Wastewater must be reused for the benefit of mankind. In this paper we propose a wastewater recycle control system to efficiently manage the wastewater and coordinate it among the industries and the government. Blockchain technology has been deployed for storing data and developing an incentive model to encourage wastewater reuse. Tokens are provided to industries in proportion to quantity and quality of reused wastewater. Rules for issue and trade of these tokens are written as a smart contract. Unfortunately, providing such incentives also provides a motive for tampering the data on which these tokens are awarded. Anomaly detection algorithms are used to detect the potential frauds which take place in the system upon IoT meter data tampering. The system uses IoT meters that measure volume of wastewater generated and reused, along with quality metrics such as pH, hardness and oil content. Multiple machine learning algorithms are used to detect tampering- polynomial regression, DBSCAN, autoencoders and LSTM networks. Their performance has then been compared. A first implementation of this system and an evaluation of the system's performance are also presented.

Anomaly detection has always been of utmost importance especially in log file systems. Many different supervised techniques have been explored to deal with this problem. Deep Learning approaches have shown huge promise in log file anomaly detection systems due to their superior ability to learn high level features and non-linearities eliminating the need for any domain specific knowledge or special pre-processing. But this increased performance comes at the cost of inexplicability of the outcomes resulting from the black-box nature of such models. In this paper, we propose a solution utilizing a LSTM-LRP (Long Short Term Memory - Layerwise Relevance Propagation) architecture for discrete event sequences which are obtained by processing log files using log keys derived from individual entries. We extend the idea of LSTM-LRP, used in NLP problems to Log file systems. The model is evaluated on Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) logs where an interpretation for every timestep and every feature is provided. Our major concern in this paper is the interpretation of the results over accuracy of the model. This not only offers an interpretation of the outcomes but also helps build trust in the model by making sure that spurious correlations are avoided making it suitable for real life applications.

Smart grids are in their developing stages, but they are going to impact the world soon. The more they influence us, the more they have a threat of being misused. Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT) is being extensively used in various smart grid based applications. IIoT has been an area for cyber-attacks to drastically affect various industries and businesses. Existing technologies are just not enough to deal with cyber-physical systems. Blockchain can help in creating more efficient, secure and reliable IIoT systems. Such systems, which involve rapid, distributed and complex energy transactions and data exchanges often face integrity and trust related issues. Blockchain can provide a solution to such problems. Third-party interactions have been removed using blockchain based smart contracts, thereby facilitating the adoption of decentralization and establishing a global truth across all the nodes in the network. Efficiency can further be increased by logging only the most important events like faults in the system or injection of malicious data. This paper proposes an innovative collective decision algorithm using blockchain to build a resilient network of Phasor Measurement Units(PMUs) for Wide Area Measurement System(WAMS). The algorithm not only identifies “malicious” nodes in the system but also takes the correct decision, even in their presence, to perform further action. The proposed solution is validated on a hardware-in-loop platform with the hardware PMUs connected on an IEEE 9 bus system.

The paper presents the application of DSP processor for energy management system (EMS) of non-renewable energy and renewable energy sources intended for grid connected applications. The hybrid supplies like wind power, solar power, fuel cell is the clean energy source with zero emission of hazardous gas. It is used in the portable power generation, stationary power generation and power for transportation. The storage devices like battery or ultra-capacitor is connected parallel to store the energy and to improve the transient response. The combination of hybrid energy and storage devices are considered for better charging and discharging with better life time of the battery and ultra-capacitor. The presented scheme explain the generation of pulse width modulation (PWM) gated pulse signals using the TMS320F28335 DSP digital signal controller with MATLAB/Simulink and Code composer studio (CCS). The plant for hybrid energy and storage devices based energy generation is intended for grid connected applications implemented in the dSPACE 1104 R&D Controller board for real time simulation and output of the system.

The paper presents passivity based control strategy for hybrid energy management system comprising of fuel cell and ultra capacitors. Industrial applications like electrical vehicles and certain microgrid combinations are using fuel cell as a clean energy alternative for the requirement of DC supply. But due to its slow dynamics it needs to be often combined with auxiliary storage systems like battery, super capacitors or ultra capacitors. We consider hybrid combination of fuel cell with ultra capacitors because it supports instantaneous charging and discharging characteristics with increased life time. The main contribution of this paper is to synthesize a non-linear control law based on interconnection damping assignment-passivity based control (IDA-PBC) with a desired energy function combining exponential and quadratic form. It was shown that the derived energy function satisfies conditions for candidate Lyapunov function and hence thereby satisfies stability criterion. Mathematical model of the system is obtained by the state space averaging approach. Simulations are performed on LabVIEW environment to validate the results.

Fuel Cells have emerged as one the most efficient energy conversion devices which convert chemical energy into electricity. It is a common practice to use supercapacitor or battery with a fuel cell to compensate for a high instantaneous power requirement during transients in applications such as hybrid electric vehicle, smart grids etc. This paper presents a non-linear controller design method for a fuel cell-supercapacitor hybrid structure. We identify the Lure form of the dynamic model of fuel cell-supercapacitor hybrid power source. A class of control laws is proposed to ensure the absolute stability of the system. The feedback control law satisfies the necessary and sufficient conditions for stability which are established using a Lure type Lyapunov function. This method offers more degrees of freedom in choosing controller parameters hence providing more flexibility in controller design. The performance of the proposed control scheme is tested via simulations.

The main purpose of this paper is to design a non-linear second order sliding mode control for transient stability of two generator system (TGS). Second order sliding mode algorithms such as Twisting Algorithm (TA) and Super Twisting Algorithm (STA) have been applied and their simulation results are compared. The equilibrium point of TGS is maintained after the clearance of fault and the system is in post fault condition. Simulation results verify the proposed controller. The advantage with this type of control is that it does not require linearized model for its implementation and reduced chattering effect.

Partial Discharge (PD) is the localized breakdown which does not completely bridge the gap between the electrodes. PD is the major cause of insulation degradation and eventually leads towards breakdown of the high voltage insulation system. Ionization of gas (medium) is the phenomena which occur inside the voids in dielectrics during the discharge. This paper makes an attempt to understand the PD measurements using the dynamics of particles involved for the PDs occurring inside the void in a dielectric. The particle in cell code is used for the same. An experiment is performed to measure void discharge using the LDS6 PD detector and Phase Resolved PD (PRPD) patterns are obtained. An attempt has been made to correlate the experimental results with the results obtained from the PIC simulation of void discharge. © 2013 IEEE.
