This article addresses the lack of literature on developing a digital platform for real-time spare parts inventory management in the mining industry. From this perspective, we investigated a holistic and multidisciplinary approach that combines business process reengineering, systems engineering, and software development. The goal was to develop an easy-to-adapt framework for researchers and industry professionals. This research proposed a comprehensive vision of the spare parts inventory management process and provided managers with the ability to monitor the process. The proposed digital spare parts management system was successfully implemented for a Moroccan phosphate company. It was demonstrated that the system could save up to 1.3 million DH annually by resolving spare parts inventory issues and improving customer satisfaction in the mining industry. © 1973-2011 IEEE.

Offshore wind energy can be considered one of the renewable energy sources with high force potential installed in marine areas. Consequently, the best wind farm layouts identified for constructing combined offshore renewable energy farms are crucial. To this aim, offshore wind potential analysis is essential to highlight the best offshore wind layouts for farm installation and development. Furthermore, the offshore wind farm layouts must be designed and developed based on the offshore wind accurate assessment to identify previously untapped marine regions. In this case, the wind speed distribution and correlation, wind direction, gust speed and gust direction for three sites have been analyzed, and then two offshore wind farm layout scenarios have been designed and analyzed based on two offshore wind turbine types in the Northwest Persian Gulf. In this case, offshore wind farm layouts software and tools have been reviewed as ubiquitous software tools. The results show Beacon M28 and Sea Island buoys location that the highest correlation between wind and gust speeds is between 87% and 98% in Beacon M28 and Sea Island Buoy, respectively. Considerably, the correlation between wind direction and wind speed is negligible. The Maximum likelihood algorithm, the WAsP algorithm, and the Least Squares algorithm have been used to analyze the wind energy potential in offshore buoy locations of the Northwest Persian Gulf. In addition, the wind energy generation potential has been evaluated in different case studies. For example, the Umm Al-Maradim buoy area has excellent potential for offshore wind energy generation based on the Maximum likelihood algorithm, WAsP algorithm, and Least Squares algorithm. © 2023 The Authors

A method for detecting bubbles in two-phase gas-liquid flow

Bubble detecting bubble has been a basic issue in two-phase flow systems. In this paper, a new method for measuring the frequency of bubble formation is presented. For this purpose, an electronic device is designed and constructed to work based on a change in intensity of the laser beam. Continues light beam is embedded just above the needle, which is received by a phototransistor. When bubbles go through the light beam, they make a deviation on it and change its intensity. So, the electrical resistance between two bases of phototransistor changes, and this variation is sensed by an electronic board. Based on the number of interruption and duration time, the frequency of bubble formation is be calculated. Liquid and gas phases in the present work are water and air, respectively. Tests are performed in constant liquid height (60 mm above the needle), constant needle diameter (1.6 mm), and gas flow rates between 50 to 1200 ml/hr. Also, three other methods are utilized to measure the bubble frequency: image processing (IP), numerical modeling, and theoretical model. Results show that with an increase in the flow rate of the gas phase, the frequency of formation increases approximately in a linear manner. Validation of methods with IP method shows that the new device has very good accuracy for measuring bubble formation frequency. So because of the simplicity of using and low cost, it can be a superseded method of image processing. © 2019, Shahid Rajaee Teacher Tarining University (SRTTU). All rights reserved.

The natural and atmospheric circumstances regarding energy resources are experiencing a transformation at the global level due to the exhaustion of the supply of conventional energy resources and climate change. With regards to energy storage systems, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have remained the most popular energy storage system technologies because of their high energy density, longer cycle life, and reliability. Nonetheless, the costs and scarcity of lithium as a raw material for REs are unreasonable in the long term. But, new chairs such as sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are seeing potential benefits over traditional batteries including the availability of Sodium, cost of raw materials, and eco-friendliness. However, there are concerns with SIBs about their less energy density in comparison with LIBs, which needs the invention of expertise. This paper seeks to establish the feasibility of SIBs by analyzing their strengths and weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Major and minor drawbacks presented in any SIB system are discussed regarding cost performance, safer operation, and environmental gains related to drawbacks such as energy density and cycles per life. Also, important dilemmas regarding LIBs presented in the literature including high efficiency, high power density, and environmentally sound recycling methods are discussed. This study underscores how different conditions may boost SIB performance, commercial feasibility and need for further technical efforts to eliminate existing obstacles so that SIBs can be effectively applied to smarter grids and other renewable energy systems.

The ranking of nodes in a network according to their "importance" is a classic problem that has attracted the interest of different scientific communities in the last decades. The current COVID-19 pandemic has recently rejuvenated the interest in this problem, as it is related to the selection of which individuals should be tested in a population of asymptomatic individuals, or which individuals should be vaccinated first. Motivated by the COVID-19 spreading dynamics, in this paper we review the most popular methods for node ranking in undirected unweighted graphs, and compare their performance in a benchmark realistic network, that takes into account the community-based structure of society. Also, we generalize a classic benchmark network originally proposed by Newman for ranking nodes in unweighted graphs, to show how ranks change in the weighted case. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. During the last decade, microgrids are attracting a significant attention due to their numerous advantages. Amongst them, the most important one is their ability to operate either in grid-connected or in islanded (autonomous) mode. However, the transition between the two modes can be challenging in terms of maintaining the stability and integrity of the microgrid. In this paper, an optimization-based islanding methodology is developed to ensure a timely and smooth transition from the grid-connected to the islanded mode. This is achieved through shedding loads, by defining the generation level ofthe photovoltaics (energy spill) and by regulating the charging/discharging rate of batteries. A resynchronization method is also presented along with the requirements that need to be satisfied for the smooth reconnection of the microgrid back to the main grid. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through simulation results for the events of surplus energy production, and excess energy demand of the microgrid.

In this study, dynamic transient model (Exact model) rather than annual heating and cooling degree-days method (crude and approximate one) has been applied to calculate the annual heating and cooling demands in optimization process. Concrete and Expanded polystyrene (EPS) considered as the main wall and insulation material respectively. One dimensional transient heat transfer problem for multilayer walls has been solved to obtain temperature distribution within the wall. In order to determine the optimum thickness, which minimizes the total cost of insulation and energy dissipation, economic analysis was carried out for the lifetime of 25 years. Both heating and cooling loads are taken into account in the optimization process. Time lag and Decrement factor are also calculated for the un-insulated and insulated wall. Environmental aspect of energy consumption including fuel consumption and pollutant emission are also investigated. Yearly total fuel consumption and pollutant emission are obtained for a wall with optimum insulation thickness and results have been compared with un-insulated wall. The findings revealed that application of insulation materials in optimum thickness will lessen the total heating and cooling demands significantly. It is also shown that by using the insulation in buildings, yearly fuel consumption and pollutant emission decreased considerably. © 6th International Conference on energy Research and Development, ICERD 2016. In the present research work, an experimental study is carried out to investigate the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of MWCNT/heat transfer oil nanofluid flow inside horizontal corrugated tubes under uniform wall temperature condition. The results show that tube corrugating shifts the flow regime to the turbulent condition at a lower Reynolds number than the smooth tubes. The acquired data confirm the increase of both heat transfer and pressure drop rates as a result of utilizing nanofluids instead of base fluid. However, corrugating the tubes only decreases the heat transfer rate at low Reynolds numbers. The highest enhancement in the heat transfer rate occurs at the Reynolds numbers in which the flow inside smooth tubes is in the transition regime;where the corrugations make the flow to jump to the turbulent regime.
