The recent development of channel technology has promised to reduce the transaction verification time in blockchain *** transactions are transmitted through the channels created by nodes,the nodes need to cooperate with each *** one party refuses to do so,the channel is unstable.A stable channel is thus *** nodes may show uncooperative behavior,they may have a negative impact on the stability of such *** order to address this issue,this work proposes a dynamic evolutionary game model based on node *** model considers various defense strategies'cost and attack success ratio under *** can dynamically adjust their strategies according to the behavior of attackers to achieve their effective *** equilibrium stability of the proposed model can be *** proposed model can be applied to general channel *** is compared with two state-of-the-art blockchain channels:Lightning network and Spirit *** experimental results show that the proposed model can be used to improve a channel's stability and keep it in a good cooperative stable *** its use enables a blockchain to enjoy higher transaction success ratio and lower transaction transmission delay than the use of its two peers.

This work proposes a real-time anomaly detection scheme that leverages the multi-step ahead prediction capabilities of encoder-decoder (ED) deep learning models with recurrent units. Specifically, an encoder-decoder is used to model soft-failure evolution over a long future horizon (i.e., for several days ahead) by analyzing past quality-of-transmission (QoT) observations. This information is subsequently used for real-time anomaly detection (e.g., of attack incidents), as the knowledge of how the QoT is expected to evolve allows capturing unexpected network behavior. Specifically, for anomaly detection, a statistical hypothesis testing scheme is used, alleviating the limitations of supervised (SL) and unsupervised learning (UL) schemes, usually applied for this purpose. Indicatively, the proposed scheme eliminates the need for labeled anomalies, required when SL is applied, and the need for on-line analyzing entire datasets to identify abnormal instances (i.e., UL). Overall, it is shown that by utilizing QoT evolution information, the proposed approach can effectively detect abnormal deviations in real-time. Importantly, it is shown that the information concerning soft-failure evolution (i.e., QoT predictions) is essential to accurately detect anomalies. © 2023 IEEE.

A Novel Constrained Filter Integrated with an Extended Kalman Filter in Underground Pipeline Navigation Using MEMS IMU

Abstract—: To produce a 3D map of the Tehran’s first gas transfer pipeline (Tehran—Kuhnamak), a methodology has been developed in this research, in which a strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) based on micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) and inertial measurement unit (IMU) is applied on pipeline inspection gauges (PIGs) to sense data every 4 millimeters of 111 kilometers of the whole pipeline. The navigation solution is based on an extended Kalman filter (EKF) using Allan variance (AVAR) to analyze and tune the EKF initial inputs. A new constrained PIG filter (CPF) is proposed in this paper in integration with EKF, in which two Euler angles (pitch and yaw) of the PIG are updated due to non-holonomic state constraints between pipe junctions. Besides, 98 magnetic control points have been used to increase robustness about every kilometer, which is coordinated by GPS. Furthermore, odometer measurements have been employed as measurements in the EKF. The results show that using such a hybrid approach has improved the PIG positioning accuracy by about 81% compared with that of the Basic EKF. In addition, positioning accuracy in comparison with the latest methods like EKF/pipeline junctions (PLJ) has increased by 32%. Furthermore, the proposed method is 55% better than EKF/PLJ in the algorithm runtime. © 2022, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Artificial intelligence systems are usually implemented either using machine learning or expert systems. Machine learning methods are usually more accurate and applicable to a broader range of applications. Expert systems, on the other hand, require much less data for training and generate more comprehensible results. These characteristics are typically desired in the fields of surgery and medicine because there isn't much data available. In order to give a machine's decisions a deeper level of semantics, it is also advantageous to incorporate a doctor's expertise into it. Furthermore, it is safer to understand the reasoning behind a machine's choices. In this paper, a Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST) based expert system is suggested for the task of surgical training skill assessment. An interval-based probabilistic feature analysis was applied to the data to assign values to the mass functions. Zhang's rule of combination was applied to handle the conflicting evidence in the prediction phase. The performance of the proposed method was compared to another DST classifier, SVM, and XGBoost. Our method outperforms SVM and other DST classifiers, but it is not as precise as XGBoost. By reducing the size of the dataset, the added benefit of using an expert system as opposed to a machine learning method was explored further. The performance of the suggested method is not adversely affected by the size of the dataset, whereas the XGBoost classifier is. © 2023 IEEE.

Advancements in technology have led to the development and increased use of biomedical wearable devices equipped with various biosensors. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of blood oxygen saturation measurements in Saudi pediatric users using the Apple Watch Series 6 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. These smartwatches, widely available and relatively affordable fitness trackers, offer the capability to measure blood oxygen saturation and facilitate health monitoring. This paper presents preliminary findings from an investigation into the accuracy of the Apple Watch and Samsung Watch in measuring blood oxygen saturation. Data was collected from a sample of one hundred Saudi pediatric users, comprising 43 females and 57 males, with an average age of 13±3.3 years and a BMI of 21.07±6.3 kg/m2. Three measurements of blood oxygen saturation were simultaneously recorded using a hospital-grade pulse oximetry machine, as well as the Apple Watch and the Samsung Watch. Statistical comparisons were conducted using a T-test with a significance level of p=0.05, and the results were visualized using Bland-Altman plots. The T-test results indicated a statistically significant difference between the oximeter readings of the smartwatches and the medical-grade oximeter. Additionally, the calculation of errors revealed discrepancies between the measurements obtained from the smartwatches and the hospital-grade oximeter. It was observed that the errors were generally lower in measurements taken from male subjects compared to female subjects. The Bland-Altman plots, considering data from both the Apple Watch and the Samsung Watch, showed moderate agreement between the smartwatches and the hospital pulse oximetry. These findings suggest that while the Apple Watch and Samsung Watch demonstrate potential for measuring blood oxygen saturation, there are discrepancies compared to the accuracy of the hospital-grade oximeter. In this paper we address the issue of output-feedback robust control for a class of feedforward nonlinear *** different from the related literature,the feedback/input signals are corrupted by additive noises and can only be transmitted intermittently due to the consideration of event-triggered communications,which bring new challenges to the control *** the aid of matrix pencil based design procedures,regulating the output to near zero is globally solved by a non-conservative dynamic low-gain controller which requires only an a priori information on the upper-bound of the growth rate of *** analysis shows that the closed-loop system is input-to-state stable with respect to the sampled errors and additive *** particular,the observer and controller designs have a dual architecture with a single dynamic scaling parameter whose update law can be obtained by calculating the generalized eigenvalues of matrix pencils offline,which has an advantage in the sense of improving the system convergence rate.

Evaluating the effectiveness of flipped learning in an upper-division undergraduate electrical engineering course

This paper explores the implementation and effectiveness of flipped learning methodology, in an upper-division undergraduate electrical engineering course at a public research university. Given the limited research on flipped learning practices in engineering education, this study highlights the potential of flipped learning while addressing its implementation challenges. The objective of this study is to compare the learning outcomes between flipped and traditional classrooms taught between 2006 and 2023, using a quasi-experimental design. Additionally, student perceptions and their performance in various assessments are investigated for the Fall 2023 modified flipped classroom. Students’ feedback garnered at the end of the semester was combined with their grades to evaluate learning outcomes and perceptions of the flipped learning approach. The findings revealed an increase in the grades for the flipped classroom. The Fall 2023 students’ feedback indicated a preference for collaborative and active learning methods while revealing a reluctance to engage with pre-recorded videos, posing a major challenge in implementing flipped learning. The paper offers implications for future flipped courses, including methods to incentivize students to watch the pre-recorded videos and mitigate uneven learning outcomes in collaborative learning environments. Furthermore, it was observed that not all students prefer the flipped learning format. Hence, integrating mini-lectures may cater to students who prefer the traditional approach while maintaining the benefits of flipped learning. © The Author(s) 2024.

Accurate modeling of power systems is crucial for various control center applications. One of the key components in a power system model is the transmission lines. The line model includes parameters such as series impedance and shunt admittance, which are typically assumed to be time-invariant. However, these parameters vary based on the ambient and operating conditions of the system. Therefore, it is essential for the different monitoring and protection applications of the power system to have an accurate visualization of the line parameter variance throughout the day. In this context, this paper develops a hybrid line parameter estimation scheme that makes use of the available Phasor Measurement Unit (PMUs) measurements and Neural Network (NN) estimations to calculate the series line parameters of the transmission lines. The developed scheme was tested in the IEEE 14-bus system under realistic ambient and operating conditions, showcasing its practical applicability and enhanced accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.
