The decentralization of power systems and the rapid deployment of renewable energy sources (RES) has upgraded the role of the Distribution System Operator (DSO) from a passive network observer to an active system operator. This requires effective collaboration and coordination with the Transmission System Operator (TSO) to avoid any congestion issues in the distribution grid. In this paper, the local market coordination scheme is considered, where DSO has priority to procure services from distributed energy resources (DERs) in an optimization-based separate local market. In this framework, a prequalification scheme is proposed and developed to enable the participation of DERs in central markets without risking the stability of the distribution system. The proposed prequalification scheme allows the DSO to detect and manage congested lines in the distribution grid preventing decisions by the TSO that can threaten the distribution system stability. Simulation results on the IEEE 33-bus system illustrate the effectiveness of the prequalification scheme in managing potential congestions in the distribution grid that might occur by the actions of the TSO. © 2022 IEEE.

Integrated Attitude-Position Formation Control of Multiple Vehicles on SE(3) with Individual Objectives

This paper explores the integrated attitude-position formation control problem of multiple vehicles, where individual entities within the formation have heterogeneous objectives. The six-degree-of-freedom multi-vehicle model is established by using the Lie group SE(3), where the attitude of each vehicle is represented by the rotation matrix. Initially, leveraging left-invariant metrics on SE(3), cost functions with respect to individual objectives and the group goal are established, formulating the formation control problem as a non-cooperative differential game. The existence of Nash equilibrium (NE) points is proven by using the monotonic game function analysis technique. To account for vehicle individual objectives, we apply a regularization technique for a strongly monotone operator to reformulate the game, providing conditions such that the NE points of the two games coincide. This transforms the original coordinated optimization problem into a NE-seeking problem for the augmented game. The aforementioned game control problem is solved using a Laplacian-flow-consensus-based NE-seeking algorithm, which yields a distributed geometric controller, for which we offer analytic convergence guarantees. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the practical validity of the proposed method. © 1965-2011 IEEE.

Sliding Mode Control for Robustness in Networked Switched Systems under Denial-of-Service Attacks

Denial-of-service (DoS) attacks impose an important threat for networked switched systems, as they impede the effective transmission of the control signals and measurement data and disrupt the synchronization of the switching modes between the controllers and the plant. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a sliding-mode controller design for safety against DoS attacks in networked switched systems. Firstly, we analyze the impact of the time delays induced by signal quantization and DoS attacks on the switching signals, control laws, and measurement data. We then design an integral sliding surface associated with the switching modes such that, when system uncertainties, disturbances, and the frequency and duration of DoS attacks are suitably bounded, input-to-state practical stability is guaranteed. Moreover, a reaching law is designed such that the trajectories of the networked switched system reach the sliding surface in finite time. The practicality and applicability of the proposed approach is demonstrated with numerical simulations on a networked continuous stirred tank reactor system. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Concept drift refers to a change in the data distribution affecting the data stream of future samples. Consequently, learning models operating on the data stream might become obsolete, and need costly and difficult adjustments such as retraining or adaptation. Existing methods usually implement a local concept drift adaptation scheme, where either incremental learning of the models is used, or the models are completely retrained when a drift detection mechanism triggers an alarm. This paper proposes an alternative approach in which an unsupervised and model-agnostic concept drift adaptation method at the global level is introduced, based on autoencoders. Specifically, the proposed method aims to 'unlearn' the concept drift without having to retrain or adapt any of the learning models operating on the data. An extensive experimental evaluation is conducted in two application domains. We consider a realistic water distribution network with more than 30 models in-place, from which we create 200 simulated data sets / scenarios. We further consider an image-related task to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 2023 IEEE.

The widespread use of charts and infographics as a means of data visualization in various domains has inspired recent research in automated chart understanding. However, information extraction from chart images is a complex multi-tasked process due to style variations and, as a consequence, it is challenging to design an end-to-end system. In this study, we propose a deep learning-based framework that provides a solution for key steps in the chart information extraction pipeline. The proposed framework utilizes hierarchal vision transformers for the tasks of chart-type and text-role classification, while YOLOv7 for text detection. The detected text is then enhanced using Super Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks to improve the recognition output of the OCR. Experimental results on a benchmark dataset show that our proposed framework achieves excellent performance at every stage with F1-scores of 0.97 for chart-type classification, 0.91 for text-role classification, and a mean Average Precision of 0.95 for text detection. © 2023 IEEE.

Named Data Networking (NDN) is an emerging technology that aims to provide rapid and efficient content distribution and retrieval in the network. This paper focuses on the impact of selecting the pair between cache replacement and placement within NDN, an aspect often overlooked in previous research. Four cache placement strategies will be implemented in the initial simulation: Leave Copy Down (LCD), Leave Copy Everywhere (LCE), Prob Cache, and Cache Less for More (CL4M). Each cache placement will be combined with two replacements: least frequently used (LFU) and least recently used (LRU). The effects of these combinations on critical metrics such as cache hit ratio, latency, link load, and path stretch are investigated. The results reveal that LCE combined with LFU demonstrates remarkable enhancements in all measurements over LCE coupled with LRU. These findings underscore the importance of meticulous selection and optimization of cache placement and replacement strategies in NDN environments to augment network efficiency and performance. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper develops a new decomposition algorithm for solving Electricity Market Pricing (EMP) problem, taking into account both revenue-adequacy and Fast Frequency Reserve (FFR) constraints. Due to revenue-adequacy constraint, a bilevel model of the EMP problem is introduced (BL-EMP). The upper level of the BL-EMP model represents the non-convex unit commitment (UC) decisions as well as the revenue-adequacy constraints of the market participants (generators, loads, and battery-storage owner). The lower level is a convex economic dispatch model with FFR constraint. To tackle the computational complexity of the considered BL-EMP model, this paper develops, tests, and proposes a Strengthened Primal-Dual Decomposition (SPDD) algorithm, which takes benefits from both Benders-like and Lagrange Dual-like algorithms. The new SPDD algorithm has a series of interesting computational properties, which are theoretically discussed in the paper. The SPDD algorithm has better computational performance than standard Benders decomposition algorithm and it also does not need tuning of the Big-M (or disjunctive) parameters for solving the proposed BL-EMP problem. Results from the modified IEEE 24-bus, the IEEE 118-bus, and the IEEE 300-bus system show the superiority of proposed SPDD algorithm over the classic Benders algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

Matrix multiplication is a computationally hefty task when done by a general purpose RISC based CPU. Caching a CPU is one of the possible solutions to reduce the number of access in the DRAM part of the memory that would slow down the computation. One of the challenges that embedded engineers face is choosing a microprocessor that's used to perform a matrix multiplication of a fixed size that would fit the system criterion, this paper aims to aid engineers on the caching parameter when choosing or designing a microprocessor. With many possible of cache associativity and replacement policy combinations, an evaluation is done on which configurations might be reasonable for the use case of a hardware designer. This paper evaluates matrix integer multiplication performance on various cached RISC-V processor configurations using simulation and how one can decide Ll cache memory size that would be appropriate for performing matrix multiplication per a given matrix size. © 2022 IEEE.

The utilization of solar photovoltaic systems has seen a marked uptick in recent years. Research efforts have been geared towards improving efficiency and reducing the cost of solar PV plants. In light of concerns over the potential consequences of high penetration of PV systems, governments have been implementing renewable energy programs. A wind turbine in wind energy conversion systems (WECS) captures a portion of the wind energy. It converts it to mechanical energy through a dynamic interaction with the electrical generator, transforming this mechanical energy into electrical energy. Therefore, wind turbine dynamics are crucial when researching and developing the whole WECS. It is highly desirable to study the behavior of wind energy and monitor the impact on power quality and short circuit level. In this study, a wind turbine using a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) simulation system is designed, simulated, cases study is discussed. The PMSM is torque-controlled using the field orientation method. A three-phase IGBT inverter with closed loop current PI-controllers powers the PMSM. The study and control system are executed on MATLAB SIMULINK. © 2023 IEEE.
