From bricks to bytes: Verifiable data for decarbonizing the building sector

Amidst the pressing need to combat climate change and curb greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the building sector emerges as a pivotal sector, substantially impacting worldwide emissions. Despite efforts to improve energy efficiency and incorporate non-fossil energy sources, the sector still lags in achieving the necessary decarbonization goals. Existing Building Energy management systems primarily prioritize economic criteria, overlooking the vital aspect of emissions reduction. Energy Informatics and information systems hold the potential to bridge this gap by enabling precise and verifiable GHG emissions accounting, end-to-end real-time tracking, and automated verification within Energy management systems (EMS). This paper presents research on designing the advancement of EMSs in the form of a Building Energy Emission management System (BEEMS) leveraging verifiable emission data for emission-based actions. The central research question revolves around designing BEEMS to facilitate emission-based actions based on verifiable data. Following a multi-step approach, the research methodology encompasses a comprehensive literature review and iterative evaluation of our design principles through a workshop and semi-structured interviews with experts from industry and research. The contributions include a conceptual architecture of a BEEMS and six design principles for future BEEMS development. Ultimately, this research strives to facilitate end-to-end verifiable GHG emissions management in the building sector to enable emission-based energy consumption decisions, contributing to the existing body of knowledge of the Energy Informatics field on BEEMS. © The Author(s) 2024.

Transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative games

In blockchain networks, transactions can be transmitted through channels. The existing transmission methods depend on their routing information. If a node randomly chooses a channel to transmit a transaction, the transmission may be aborted due to insufficient funds(also called balance) or a low transmission rate. To increase the success rate and reduce transmission delay across all transactions, this work proposes a transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative game *** balance, channel states, and transmission probability are fully considered. This work then presents an optimized channel transaction transmission algorithm. First, channel balances are analyzed and suitable channels are selected if their balance is sufficient. Second, a Nash equilibrium point is found by using an iterative sub-gradient method and its related channels are then used to transmit transactions. The proposed method is compared with two state-of-the-art approaches: Silent Whispers and Speedy Murmurs. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves transmission success rate, reduces transmission delay,and effectively decreases transmission overhead in comparison with its two competitive peers.

Conceptualizing the Integration of Business and Private Components in Individual information systems

Individuals build their individual information system (IIS) with which they manage the boundary between different domains of life. In this age of permanent mobile accessibility, however, the boundary between the private and business domains can become blurred. While some users try to maintain a degree of separation between the two IIS sub-systems (the private and the business information system), others integrate them. Understanding such integration is essential as it affects well-being and performance in both domains. To further this understanding, we introduce a conceptualization of IIS that distinguishes between four layers of IIS: devices, digital identities, relationships, and information. To measure IIS integration, we develop a method based on the IIS components’ usage frequencies in each domain. We evaluate our conceptualization as well as our measurement method by empirically testing a theoretical model of IIS integration on multiple layers. Our data provides empirical support for the importance of relationship integration as one of the four layers. This leads us to the conclusion that even though IIS are composed of four layers, only the relationship layer is of interest regarding IIS integration. Our results are of interest and service to individuals, organizations, and IT designers who aim to manage IIS integration for individual and organizational benefits. © 2023, The Author(s).

Digital transformation is a complex, multi-level phenomenon that still challenges research and practice. Recent research has highlighted the influence of digital ecosystems on digital transformation, but we lack knowledge about how this relationship unfolds across the organisational and the ecosystem levels. Following a phenomenon-based theorising approach and applying a digital resource-based view, we present the OCO (orientation, cooperation, orchestration) theory of digital transformation. The OCO theory explains the relationship between an organisation's digital transformation and its integration into a digital ecosystem. We uncover and explain three interdependent mechanisms, that is, orientation, cooperation, and orchestration, that are set in motion by cross-level interactions between the organisational and the ecosystem levels and that centre around digital resources. Our work advances the frontier of multi-level digital transformation research explaining the influence of a digital ecosystem on digital transformation. We conclude through six propositions that the deeper its digital ecosystem integration, the more likely an organisation's digital transformation is effective. Therewith, we aim at mobilising future digital transformation research to bridge the organisational and the ecosystem levels and provide four future research themes. Our work also encourages practitioners to acknowledge and manage the influence of digital ecosystems on digital transformation. © 2024 The Author(s). information systems Journal published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Vehicles are becoming physical computer systems that connect with other cars and collect data from numerous pieces of equipment. These improvements contribute to developing smart and connected automobiles that will supply valuable data to owners, producers, insurance firms, and repair network operators for various uses. In post-accident circumstances, especially for auto vehicles (self-driving cars), using transportation data might help identify the guilty party. Verification, accessibility, secrecy, and dependability are all privacy needs for a vehicular ad hoc network. These criteria are linked to critical attacks that make operating a network difficult. However, to access different types of information in automobiles, we proposed a permissioned blockchain framework to organize the acquired transportation information among the numerous parts concerned. We incorporate the public key exchange protocol on the vehicle into the projected blockchain-based forensic system to ensure participation identification and anonymity. The proposed system offers a deep learning-based predictive incident modeling with blockchain for the incident data stored in the blockchain. Moreover, several methods have been combined in forensic management with blockchain to establish an auto-evaluation scheme. As a result, we extensively evaluated, analyzed, and discussed the works and contributions of skilled researchers to uncover new avenues in an ongoing and prospective study. Cloud computing has become an integral part of modern corporate IT infrastructures. However, conventional IT-security measures cannot cope with its specific technical needs resulting from complexity, virtualization, or multi-tenancy as well as the need for holistic security approaches incorporating both technological and organizational perspectives on security. Security Chaos engineering (SCE) constitutes a promising approach to overcome these shortcomings. Unfortunately, existing literature focuses on technical aspects of SCE and neglects the organizational perspective, i.e., which organizational success factors need to be addressed for a successful implementation. To close this gap, we conducted an interview study following the approach of Gioia et al. (2013) and identified seven success factors related to goals, social structure, participants, and technology within a company following Scott (1981). Log Preservation in Custody Dual Blockchain With Energy Regime and Obfuscation Shuffle

The rise of cybercrime has led to an explosion of threats in recent years, resulting in the increasingly important of digital forensics. To achieve successful investigation and prosecution, the log preservation is a critical aspect of incident response. The blockchain technology is considered as one of the powerful log storage mechanism, which bringing data transparency and non-tempering property aside from taking off the hypothesis of a trusted third party. Nevertheless, the sensitivity of the data makes it vulnerable to malicious attacks, and the adoption of blockchain has significantly burdened participants regarding consensus time and storage. To address these challenges, we aim to develop a custody dual blockchain (CDB) to secure the confidentiality and integrity of log data. The design of reputation consensus attains that only attractive participants need to offer computation and storage for efficiency enhancing, while the energy regime constructs a positive feedback loop that invigorates users to contribute to CDB. Moreover, the obfuscation shuffle effectively obscures the explicit log plaintext to prevent illegal access. Thus, the confidential data on the CDB nodes can even be used as evidence of digital forensics. Simulation results have demonstrated that the ledger overhead can be significantly reduced, and CDB could pass the robust examination of two formal proof tools: Proverif (Blanchet et al. 2021) and AVISPA. © 2013 IEEE.

Inspired by the success of agile practices in small teams, organizations seek to achieve agility at scale, leading to large-scale agile transformations. Several frameworks have been developed to guide organizations through this process. While multiple challenges for adopting scaled agile frameworks have already been identified, research on the interplay between traditional management approaches and scaled agile frameworks is scarce. We conduct an in-depth exploratory case study with a German financial services provider to identify tensions that arise when applying a scaled agile framework in a non-agile environment. As a result, we derive 13 tensions along with three areas: goal-setting, planning, and reporting. Thereby, we advance the understanding of tensions within large-scale agile transformations and provide a foundation for future research on scaled agile practices in traditional organizations. High-dimensional and incomplete(HDI) matrices are primarily generated in all kinds of big-data-related practical applications. A latent factor analysis(LFA) model is capable of conducting efficient representation learning to an HDI matrix,whose hyper-parameter adaptation can be implemented through a particle swarm optimizer(PSO) to meet scalable ***, conventional PSO is limited by its premature issues,which leads to the accuracy loss of a resultant LFA model. To address this thorny issue, this study merges the information of each particle's state migration into its evolution process following the principle of a generalized momentum method for improving its search ability, thereby building a state-migration particle swarm optimizer(SPSO), whose theoretical convergence is rigorously proved in this study. It is then incorporated into an LFA model for implementing efficient hyper-parameter adaptation without accuracy loss. Experiments on six HDI matrices indicate that an SPSO-incorporated LFA model outperforms state-of-the-art LFA models in terms of prediction accuracy for missing data of an HDI matrix with competitive computational ***, SPSO's use ensures efficient and reliable hyper-parameter adaptation in an LFA model, thus ensuring practicality and accurate representation learning for HDI matrices.

Research on blockchain has found that the technology is no silver bullet compared to traditional data structures due to limitations regarding decentralization, security, and scalability. These limitations are summarized in the blockchain trilemma, which today represents the greatest barrier to blockchain adoption and applicability. To address these limitations, recent advancements by blockchain businesses have focused on a new cryptographic technique called "Zero-knowledge proofs". While these primitives have been around for some time and despite their potential significance on blockchains, not much is known in information systems research about them and their potential effects. Therefore, we employ a multivocal literature review to explore this new tool and find that although it has the potential to resolve the trilemma, it currently only solves it in certain dimensions, which necessitates further attention and research. © 2023 International Conference on information systems, ICIS 2023: "Rising like a Phoenix: Emerging from the Pandemic and Reshaping Hu.
