Transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative games

In blockchain networks, transactions can be transmitted through channels. The existing transmission methods depend on their routing information. If a node randomly chooses a channel to transmit a transaction, the transmission may be aborted due to insufficient funds(also called balance) or a low transmission rate. To increase the success rate and reduce transmission delay across all transactions, this work proposes a transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative game *** balance, channel states, and transmission probability are fully considered. This work then presents an optimized channel transaction transmission algorithm. First, channel balances are analyzed and suitable channels are selected if their balance is sufficient. Second, a Nash equilibrium point is found by using an iterative sub-gradient method and its related channels are then used to transmit transactions. The proposed method is compared with two state-of-the-art approaches: Silent Whispers and Speedy Murmurs. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves transmission success rate, reduces transmission delay,and effectively decreases transmission overhead in comparison with its two competitive peers.

A State-Migration Particle Swarm Optimizer for Adaptive Latent Factor Analysis of High-Dimensional and Incomplete Data

High-dimensional and incomplete(HDI) matrices are primarily generated in all kinds of big-data-related practical applications. A latent factor analysis(LFA) model is capable of conducting efficient representation learning to an HDI matrix,whose hyper-parameter adaptation can be implemented through a particle swarm optimizer(PSO) to meet scalable ***, conventional PSO is limited by its premature issues,which leads to the accuracy loss of a resultant LFA model. To address this thorny issue, this study merges the information of each particle's state migration into its evolution process following the principle of a generalized momentum method for improving its search ability, thereby building a state-migration particle swarm optimizer(SPSO), whose theoretical convergence is rigorously proved in this study. It is then incorporated into an LFA model for implementing efficient hyper-parameter adaptation without accuracy loss. Experiments on six HDI matrices indicate that an SPSO-incorporated LFA model outperforms state-of-the-art LFA models in terms of prediction accuracy for missing data of an HDI matrix with competitive computational ***, SPSO's use ensures efficient and reliable hyper-parameter adaptation in an LFA model, thus ensuring practicality and accurate representation learning for HDI matrices.

Crowd dynamics analysis and behavior recognition in surveillance videos based on deep learning

Video surveillance is widely adopted across various sectors for purposes such as law enforcement, COVID-19 isolation monitoring, and analyzing crowds for potential threats like flash mobs or violence. The vast amount of data generated daily from surveillance devices holds significant potential but requires effective analysis to extract value. Detecting anomalous crowd behavior, which can lead to chaos and casualties, is particularly challenging in video surveillance due to its labor-intensive nature and susceptibility to errors. To address these challenges, this research contributes in two key areas: first, by creating a diverse and representative video dataset that accurately reflects real-world crowd dynamics across eight different categories;second, by developing a reliable framework, ‘CRAB-NET,’ for automated behavior recognition. Extensive experimentation and evaluation, using Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory networks (ConvLSTM) and Long-Term Recurrent Convolutional Networks (LRCN), validated the effectiveness of the proposed approach in accurately categorizing behaviors observed in surveillance videos. The employed models were able to achieve the accuracy score of 99.46% for celebratory crowd, 99.98% for formal crowd and 96.69% for violent crowd. The demonstrated accuracy of 97.20% for comprehensive dataset achieved by the LRCN underscores its potential to revolutionize crowd behavior analysis. It ensures safer mass gatherings and more effective security interventions. Incorporating AI-powered crowd behavior recognition like ‘CRAB-NET’ into security measures not only safeguards public gatherings but also paves the way for proactive event management and predictive safety strategies. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Privacy of Distributed Optimality Schemes in Power Networks

The increasing participation of local generation and controllable demand units within the power network motivates the use of distributed schemes for their control. Simultaneously, it raises two issues;achieving an optimal power allocation among these units, and securing the privacy of the generation/demand profiles. This study considers the problem of designing distributed optimality schemes that preserve the privacy of the generation and controllable demand units within the secondary frequency control timeframe. We propose a consensus scheme that includes the generation/demand profiles within its dynamics, keeping this information private when knowledge of its internal dynamics is not available. However, the prosumption profiles may be inferred using knowledge of its internal model. We resolve this by proposing a privacy-preserving scheme which ensures that the generation/demand cannot be inferred from the communicated signals. For both proposed schemes, we provide analytic stability, optimality and privacy guarantees and show that the secondary frequency control objectives are satisfied. The presented schemes are distributed, locally verifiable and applicable to arbitrary network topologies. Our analytic results are verified with simulations on a 140-bus system, where we demonstrate that the proposed schemes offer enhanced privacy properties, enable an optimal power allocation and preserve the stability of the power network. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Watch You under Low-Resolution and Low-Illumination: Face Enhancement via Bi-Factor Degradation Decoupling

Face enhancement aims to improve low-quality face images to a higher-quality level. However, in real-world nighttime scenes, complex degradation factors often affect these images, making it challenging to preserve important facial details. Existing image enhancement algorithms typically focus on independently conducting image super-resolution and brightness enhancement, assuming a fixed degradation level based on simulated training datasets. Nonetheless, real nighttime scenes involve complex degradation processes, where degradation factors dynamically and variably manifest. Therefore, achieving effective face enhancement in such scenarios is particularly daunting. This work analyzes and unveils the multiple factors of low resolution and low illumination during degradation. Based on this analysis, we propose a Bi-factor Degradation Decoupling network. Our method leverages a decoupling network to generate qualitative and quantitative features corresponding to each factor's degradation degree in the low-quality environment. These features are then combined with robust facial feature constraints to recover the details of low-quality faces. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method surpasses state-of-the-art approaches in both enhancement and face super-resolution. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Failure detection is an essential task in industrial systems for preventing costly downtime and ensuring the seamlessoperation of the system. Current industrial processes are getting smarter with the emergence of Industry ***, various modernized industrial processes have been equipped with quite a few sensors to collectprocess-based data to find faults arising or prevailing in processes along with monitoring the status of *** diagnosis of rotating machines serves a main role in the engineering field and industrial production. Dueto the disadvantages of existing fault, diagnosis approaches, which greatly depend on professional experienceand human knowledge, intellectual fault diagnosis based on deep learning (DL) has attracted the researcher’sinterest. DL reaches the desired fault classification and automatic feature learning. Therefore, this article designs a Gradient Optimizer Algorithm with Hybrid Deep Learning-based Failure Detection and Classification (GOAHDLFDC)in the industrial environment. The presented GOAHDL-FDC technique initially applies continuous wavelettransform (CWT) for preprocessing the actual vibrational signals of the rotating machinery. Next, the residualnetwork (ResNet18) model was exploited for the extraction of features from the vibration signals which are thenfed into theHDLmodel for automated fault detection. Finally, theGOA-based hyperparameter tuning is performedtoadjust the parameter valuesof theHDLmodel *** experimental result analysis of the GOAHDL-FD Calgorithm takes place using a series of simulations and the experimentation outcomes highlight the better resultsof the GOAHDL-FDC technique under different aspects.

Demand Management for Peak-to-Average Ratio Minimization via Intraday Block Pricing

Price based demand response schemes may significantly improve power system efficiency. Additionally, it is desired that such schemes yield improved power operation, by reducing the peak consumption. This paper proposes the Intraday Block Pricing (IBP) scheme, aiming to promote effective demand response among consumers by charging their electricity usage based on intraday time-slots. To design the prices associated with the proposed scheme, we formulate a bilevel optimization problem that aims to minimize the Peak-to-Average Ratio (PAR) and simultaneously benefit the consumers and the utility company. The bilevel problem is converted into a single-level Mathematical Program with Equilibrium Constraints (MPEC). The resulting MPEC is non-convex and includes nonlinear constraints. Hence, to obtain a solution, it is relaxed into a Mixed Integer Linear Program by dealing with all nonlinearities. To evaluate the conservativeness of the proposed approach, a lower bound to the cost of the original bilevel problem is obtained. The applicability of the proposed scheme is demonstrated with simulations on various case studies, which exhibit a significant reduction in PAR and economic gains for the utility company and consumers. Moreover, simulation results show that the solutions of the original and relaxed problems are equivalent, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed solution approach. Further simulation results demonstrate significant advantages in the performance of the IBP scheme when compared to existing schemes in the literature. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

A novel deep learning approach for automated grading of knee osteoarthritis severity

Knee Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent musculoskeletal disorder that affects the knee joint that causes pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. It is also known as "Degenerative Joint Disease" and is caused by the degeneration of cartilage in the knee joint, leading to bone-on-bone contact and further damage. Knee OA is prevalent in the population, affecting around 22% to 39% of people in India, and there is currently no treatment available that can halt the progression of the disease. Therefore, early diagnosis and management of symptoms are essential to reduce its impact on an individual’s quality of life. To address this issue, have introduced a framework that leverages ConvNeXt architecture, a modernization of ResNets (ResNet-50) architecture towards Hierarchical Transformers (Swin Transformers), to provide accurate identification and classification of knee osteoarthritis. The classification of knee osteoarthritis was done using the Kellgren and Lawrence (KL) graded X-ray images. These images of the damaged knees are preprocessed and augmented, creating a scaled, enhanced, and varied version of the features, thus making the data fitter and more significant for classification. The performance estimation of the proposed strategy is conducted on the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI), a research project focused on knee osteoarthritis that works in partnership with NIH and other private industries to develop a public domain dataset that can facilitate research and evaluation. It involves training the prepared data using various hyper-tuned versions of ConvNeXt. The different fine-tuned results of the ConvNeXt models on each KL Grade are evaluated against the other state-of-the-art models and vision transformers. The comparative assessment of widely used performance measures shows that the proposed approach outperforms the conventional models by generating the highest score for all the KL grades.
