The growing adoption of 5G private networks has significantly enhanced industries such as smart factories, autonomous vehicles, and smart homes, thanks to their high-speed data transmission, low latency, and support for large-scale device connectivity. These networks have driven advancements in real-time monitoring and process automation, boosting productivity and efficiency while reducing costs. However, the deployment of 5G private networks has also introduced various security challenges, particularly with the emergence of AI-driven technologies. This paper discusses these challenges, focusing on the design and implementation of a 5G security testbed to validate AI solutions within such environments. Key security threats associated with 5G private networks include the exploitation of AI and generative AI for sophisticated phishing and spoofing attacks, the hacking of autonomous vehicles and smart homes that can compromise both safety and privacy, and security breaches in AI-based smart factory systems, which could lead to operational disruptions and economic losses. These risks emphasize the need for proactive countermeasures to ensure the integrity and security of 5G private networks. This paper verifies the security of AI-based applications implemented through a testbed using Nokia's 5G network system and provides the necessary configurations for the stable deployment of AI-based service solutions. © 2024 IEEE.

Group scheduling problems have attracted much attention owing to their many practical *** work proposes a new bi-objective serial-batch group scheduling problem considering the constraints of sequence-dependent setup time,release time,and due *** is originated from an important industrial process,i.e.,wire rod and bar rolling process in steel production *** objective functions,i.e.,the number of late jobs and total setup time,are minimized.A mixed integer linear program is established to describe the *** obtain its Pareto solutions,we present a memetic algorithm that integrates a population-based nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II and two single-solution-based improvement methods,i.e.,an insertion-based local search and an iterated greedy *** computational results on extensive industrial data with the scale of a one-week schedule show that the proposed algorithm has great performance in solving the concerned problem and outperforms its *** high accuracy and efficiency imply its great potential to be applied to solve industrial-size group scheduling problems.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) play a pivotal role in a variety of modern applications, with traffic monitoring emerging as a critical use case. This study presents the Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) 2.0 framework as applied to UAS operations dedicated for traffic monitoring in urban environments. A comprehensive risk assessment is provided by incorporating real-world scenarios and addressing practical aspects of traffic monitoring missions. A fleet of semi-autonomous drones is employed to safely acquire video footage of traffic for further analysis, based on a detailed elaboration of SORA methodology steps. In this regard, enhancements are proposed for structuring the Air Risk Class assessment and corresponding mitigation measures, as well as recommendations concerning Multi-UAS and autonomous operations, aiming to improve the methodology. As the demand for UAS operations in urban environments, including efficient and secure traffic management solutions, constantly increases, this study aspires to contribute to the UAS operational safety and regulatory framework.

Healthy living and well-being at all ages are one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Active mobility is a must as a basic choice for healthy individuals and communities in sustainable cities. However, commuting by walking presents a critical challenge in the city with rapid urbanization, leading to auto dependency rather than a non-motorized mode of residents’ daily mobility. By employing spatial configurations of urban physical elements, the interaction between its association and active mobility can be unfolded. Bangkok, a megacity in Thailand, is used as a case study for the objective assessments by generating data from on-street images and incorporating it into the analysis through geographic information systems (GIS). The finding based on the results of spatial configurations related to the pedestrian volume can then be quantified. The linkage between the physical environment—both sidewalks and their surrounding context—can demonstrate its significance in term of relationship. This information is useful for promoting compact urban development with consideration of the availability of transportation systems, especially public transport, which can lead to the promotion of healthy cities and environmental protection while solving traffic problems.

Recent advancements in Silicon Dangling Bond (SiDB) fabrication have transitioned from manual to automated processes. However, sub-nanometer substrate defects remain a significant challenge, thus preventing the fabrication of functional logic. Current design automation techniques lack defect-aware strategies. This paper introduces an idea for a surface defect model based on experimentally verified defects, which can be applied to enhance the robustness of established gate libraries. Additionally, a prototypical automatic placement and routing algorithm is presented, utilizing STM data from physical experiments to obtain dot- accurate circuitry resilient to atomic surface defects. Initial evaluations on surfaces with varying defect rates demonstrate their critical impact, suggesting that fabrication processes must achieve defect rates of around 0.1 % to further advance this circuit technology. © 2024 EDAA.

Organized around discussions on challenges, advancements, and future directions, this review aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse in the dynamic RGB image-based hand pose estimation field. By addressing unique challenges specific to this method, the paper offers insights that contribute to developing precise and robust hand pose estimation systems, impacting the broader landscape of computer vision and human-machine interaction.

An Escort and Defense Scenario is presented in which a high-value Target maneuvers through a high-risk region while being escorted by a mobile, defensive agent. Along this trajectory, an Attacker may be launched from one of several possible launch locations. If a launch occurs, the three agents play out a Target-Attacker-Defender (TAD) differential game in which the Defender attempts to intercept the Attacker at maximal distance from the Target while the Attacker strives to maneuver as close as possible to the Target. Prior to launch, the Target and Defender strive to preposition themselves in advantageous positions to effectively respond to a potential threat while simultaneously moving towards a safety region. An augmented collocation-based direct optimal control method is developed to solve the escort problem by solving and utilizing the value of the TAD differential subgame at each collocation point while simultaneously optimizing the primary optimal control problem. © 2024 IEEE.

We report a comparative study of temperature-dependent photoluminescence and structural dynamics of two perovskite semiconductors, the chalcogenide BaZrS3 and the halide CsPbBr3. These materials have similar crystal structures and direct band gaps, but we find that they have quite distinct optoelectronic and vibrational properties. Both materials exhibit thermally activated nonradiative recombination, but the nonradiative recombination rate in BaZrS3 is four orders of magnitude faster than in CsPbBr3, for the crystals studied here. Raman spectroscopy reveals that the effects of phonon anharmonicity are far more pronounced in CsPbBr3 than in BaZrS3. Further, although both materials feature a large dielectric response due to low-energy polar optical phonons, the phonons in CsPbBr3 are substantially lower in energy than in BaZrS3. Our results suggest that electron-phonon coupling in BaZrS3 is more effective at nonradiative recombination than in CsPbBr3 and that BaZrS3 may also have a substantially higher concentration of nonradiative recombination centers than CsPbBr3. The low defect concentration in CsPbBr3 may be related to the ease of lattice reconfiguration, typified by anharmonic bonding. It remains to be seen to what extent these differences are inherent to the chalcogenide and halide perovskites and to what extent they can be affected by materials processing.

Providing secure communications has become imperative in single- and multi-agent systems that need to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the transmitted data, especially when these systems are employed in critical in-frastructure applications. This work presents a novel approach for secure communications between a group of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to safeguard the confidentiality of the data exchanged in such a multi-agent system, employing the robot operating system (ROS), a virtual private network (VPN), and a chaotic-based communication architecture. Specifically, a custom ROS-based framework is developed to collect and distribute the UAV sensor data, while a VPN network is deployed as the first layer of security for the system. Subsequently, a lightweight chaotic-based module is incorporated as the second layer of security to enable secure communications between the UAVs in real time. To evaluate the proposed system, a prototype multi-UAV system is designed, implemented, and extensively tested in a real-world environment. The proposed system achieves secure real-time communications, with low power consumption and minimal processing resources (CPU and RAM usage), demonstrating its applicability for the energy-constrained UAV-based system under consideration.

Urban Water Consumption Forecasting Using Deep Learning and Correlated District Metered Areas

Accurate water consumption forecasting is a crucial tool for water utilities and policymakers, as it helps ensure a reliable supply, optimize operations, and support infrastructure planning. Urban Water Distribution Networks (WDNs) are divided into District Metered Areas (DMAs), where water flow is monitored to efficiently manage resources. This work focuses on short-term forecasting of DMA consumption using deep learning and aims to address two key challenging issues. First, forecasting based solely on a DMA's historical data may lack broader context and provide limited insights. Second, DMAs may experience sensor malfunctions providing incorrect data, or some DMAs may not be monitored at all due to computational costs, complicating accurate forecasting. We propose a novel method that first identifies DMAs with correlated consumption patterns and then uses these patterns, along with the DMA's local data, as input to a deep learning model for forecasting. In a real-world study with data from five DMAs, we show that: i) the deep learning model outperforms a classical statistical model;ii) accurate forecasting can be carried out using only correlated DMAs' consumption patterns;and iii) even when a DMA's local data is available, including correlated DMAs' data improves accuracy. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.
