Bad smells are software patterns that are generally associated with bad design and bad programming. They can be removed by using the refactoring technique which improves the quality of software. Aspect-oriented (AO) software development, which involves new notions and the different ways of thinking for developing software and solving the crosscutting problem, possibly introduces different kinds of design flaws. Defining bad smells hidden in AO software in order to point out bad design and bad programming is then necessary. This paper proposes the definition of new AO bad smells. Moreover, appropriate existing AO refactoring methods for eliminating each bad smell are presented. The proposed bad smells are validated. The results show that after removing the bad smells by using appropriate refactoring methods, the software quality is increased.

Link analysis is a critical component of current Internet search engines' results ranking software, which determines the ordering of query results returned to the user. The ordering of query results can have an enormous impact on web traffic resulting business activity of an enterprise;hence businesses have a strong interest in having their web pages highly ranked in search engine results. This has led to attempts to artificially inflate page ranks by spamming the link structure of the web. Building an artificial condensed link structure called a "link farm" is one technique to influence a page ranking system, such as the popular PageRank algorithm. In this paper, we present an approach to remove the bias due to link farms from PageRank computation. We propose a method to first measure the PageRank weight accumulated by link farms, and then distribute the weight to other web pages by a modification of the transition matrix in the standard PageRank algorithm. We present results of a selected web graph that is manually spammed The results show that the proposed approach can effectively reduce the bias from link farms in PageRank computation.

This paper presents a novel approach to solve the constrained unit commitment problem using the Selective Self-Adaptive Ant Colony Optimization (SSACO) for improving search performance by automatically adapting ant populations and their transition probability parameters, which cooperates with the Candidate Path Management Module (CPMM) and the Effective Repairing Heuristic Module (ERHM) in reducing search space and recovering a feasible optimality region so that a high quality solution can be acquired in a very early iterative. A new concept of the Relativity Pheromone Updating (RPU) is also introduced to provide a reasonable evaluation of the pheromone trail intensity among the agents. The proposed SSACO method not only enhances the convergence of search process, but also provides a suitable number of the population sharing which conducts a good guidance for trading-off between the importance of the visibility and the pheromone trail intensity. The proposed method has been performed on a test system up to 100 generating units with a scheduling time horizon of 24 hours. The numerical results show the most economical saving in the total operating cost when compared to the previous literature results. Moreover, the proposed SSACO topology can remarkably speed up the computational time of ant colony optimization, which is favorable for a large-scale UC problem implementation.

Anomaly detection is an important challenge for tasks such as fault diagnosis and intrusion detection in energy constrained wireless sensor networks. A key problem is how to minimise the communication overhead in the network while performing in-network computation when detecting anomalies. Our approach to this problem is based on a formulation that uses distributed, one-class quarter-sphere support vector machines to identify anomalous measurements in the data. We demonstrate using sensor data from the Great Duck Island Project that our distributed approach is energy efficient in terms of communication overhead while achieving comparable accuracy to a centralised scheme.

Microscopic traffic simulation, an effective analysis approach for traffic channel, management and control schemes, has become one of interested research fields in intelligent traffic. Traffic flow is a complex multi-agent system, and person-vehicle is main body in traffic flow. In order to simulate real traffic flow exactly, a hybrid architecture of driver-vehicle agent, combined cognitive architecture with reactive architecture, is presented and modeled in this paper. The memory structure of driver-vehicle agents is studied in depth. The structure relations of multi-agent are characterized by artificial potential field, and effective communication range is defined, so as to enhance communication efficiency among agents. A microscopic traffic simulator is developed, and effectivity of our approach is demonstrated by experimental results.

This report describes the joint work by Kyoto University and the University of Melbourne for the TREC Genomics Track in 2007. As with 2006, the task for this year was the retrieval of passages from a biomedical document collection. The overall framework of our system from 2006 remains unchanged and is comprised of two parts: a paragraph-level retrieval system and a passage extraction system. These two systems are based on the vector space model and a probabilistic word-based aspect model, respectively. This year, we have adopted numerous changes to our 2007 system which we believe corrected some problems.
