In this paper the spontaneous emission modification and coupling factor was calculated for evaluating the microcavity effects of nanowire lasers. This calculation was performed for hexagonally shaped nanowire lasers by finite integral simulations, where dipoles at different positions of nanowire laser and different orientations were examined.

Ventricular Late Potentials (VLPs) are lowamplitude, high-frequency components that appear at the end of the QRS complex of a High-Resolution ECG (HRECG) record. VLPs are clinically useful for identifying post-MI (Myocardial Infarction) patients prone to Ventricular Tachycardia (VT) and Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD). In this paper, the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) and a supervised fuzzy clustering algorithm are used together to detect VLP. The terminal part of the QRS complex in the Vector Magnitude (VM) waveform is processed with the CWT to extract a feature vector. Resulting time-frequency representation is subdivided into several sub bands, and the sum of the squared decomposition coefficients is computed in each region. Finally, a supervised Fuzzy clustering method, trained by an appropriate set of these feature vectors, is applied to this data in order to identify VLP.

Three basic movements for path planning of a nonholonomic wheel-based pole climbing robot, UT-PCR, are proposed. In order to simplify the system equations, the state equations are first derived in the velocity space in which the nonholonomic constraint is easily shown. Subsequently, according to the derived equations, three basic movements are defined and a suitable control method is proposed. Finally, the proposed movements and the control method are tested via simulations.

A major problem in control over wireless networks is conceiving a joint control and communication system design to optimize a given cost function. To solve this problem we have recently proposed a theoretical framework based on the Platform Based Design (PBD). The first step consists in mapping control specifications onto communication network specifications: this involves parameters as quantization noise, coding and modulation scheme, and power level. Next, a communication scheme is chosen so that the control specifications are satisfied. Hybrid models are exploited in order to capture the intrinsic discrete-continuous behaviors, and the developed framework is able to account for safety specifications that often occur in industrial control systems. While in our previous work we have been concerned with modeling efforts, in this paper we focus on the development of control methodologies and provide an example of application within a test case that is currently considered within the project HYCON.

As a service-based language, WS-BPEL is widely adopted into enterprise solutions. However, because of the intrinsic flexibility and dynamism of the web services it used, its behavior couldn't be foreseen until it is running, runtime monitoring is needed. The paper introduces an approach of dynamic monitoring of WS-BPEL processes. It uses Past Linear Temporal Language (PLTL) to describe monitor rules, with the support of Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP). This approach, which has been implemented on OnceBPEL, a BPEL engine designed by ISCAS, can be applied to runtime monitoring of WS-BPEL processes effectively.

In this paper a novel criterion function is introduced to diagnose the breakage in rotor bars, which uses wavelet transform (WT) to process the stator current signal in faulty induction motors. This criterion function facilitates the diagnosis of fault in induction motors under load variation, precisely. The proposed function is based on wavelet coefficients of stator current in a specific frequency band. Meanwhile, in this paper broken rotor bar in induction motor is detected using spectrum analysis of stator current. It is also shown that increasing the load makes an increase in harmonic components amplitude of a faulty induction motor. A Time stepping finite element (TSFE) method is used for modeling broken rotor bar faults in induction motors. In this modeling, the effects of the spatial distribution of the stator winding, non uniform air-gap permeance, geometrical and physical characteristics of different parts of the motor, and finally non-linearity of the core materials are taken into account. The proposed algorithm is applied to the stator current of a healthy and faulty induction motor. The simulation results are obtained and their accuracy is verified by experimental results.

On the basis of concept algebra, this article presents a hierarchical model for web document restructuring and comprehension. The formal model for information restructuring of web documents is built on decoding the external knowledge representation in informal documents into cognitive knowledge represented by concept algebra and concept networks. The semantic relations between concepts in a document are expressed by semantic links among concepts. To automatically implement the information restructuring by machines, a two level knowledge base that mimic human lexical, syntactical, and semantic cognition is introduced. The information restructuring model provides a foundation for automatic concept indexing and knowledge extraction from web documents.
