Maintenance scheduling and asset management practices play an important role in power systems,specifically in power generating *** paper presents a novel riskbased framework for a criticality assessment of plant components as a means to conduct more focused maintenance *** components in power plants that influence overall system performance are identified by quantifying their failure impact on system reliability,electric safety,cost,and the *** of plant components according to the proposed risk-based method ensures that the most effective and techno-economic investment decisions are ***,in turn,helps to initiate modern maintenance approaches,such as reliability-centered maintenance(RCM).The proposed method is applied to a real combined cycle power plant(CCPP)in Iran,composed of two gas turbine power plants(GTPP)and one steam turbine power plant(STPP).The results demonstrate the practicality and applicability of the presented approach in real world practices.

One of the most common causes of induction motor damage is turn insulation failure of stator windings. This failure may come from the undetected turn insulation degradation. Surge test is able to detect early this degradation. However, most of surge test is conducted without using rotor for a reason that the test result is more valid. In this paper, a diagnostic tool based on surge voltage was designed and applied to the tested induction motor to analyse how significant the rotor position affects the result of surge test, such as value of error area ratio (EAR) and zero crossing time of surge wave. There were two schemes tested during surge test, i.e. induction motor with rotor and without rotor. The variations of rotor position angle were also performed. In order to simulate some turn fault conditions on the stator windings, the external taps were given to the stator windings of induction motor. The result revealed that the value of EAR and the zero crossing time of surge wave were clearly different between the induction motor with rotor and without rotor for the same short circuit condition. Moreover, the zero crossing time showed a repetition for rotor position angle with a multiple of four.

A signed network is a network with each link associated with a positive or negative sign. Models for nodes interacting over such signed networks, where two different types of interactions take place along the positive and negative links, respectively, arise from various biological, social, political, and economic systems. As modifications to the conventional DeGroot dynamics for positive links, two basic types of negative interactions along negative links, namely the opposing rule and the repelling rule, have been proposed and studied in the literature. This paper reviews a few fundamental convergence results for such dynamics over deterministic or random signed networks under a unified algebraic-graphical method. We show that a systematic tool of studying node state evolution over signed networks can be obtained utilizing generalized Perron-Frobenius theory, graph theory, and elementary algebraic recursions. In this paper a scenario consisting of a defending missile, an attacker missile, and a target aircraft which cooperates with the defender is considered. Using indirect optimization techniques, an optimal aircraft heading is selected to maximize the distance of the pursuing attacking missile while also striving to minimizing the distance of the defender missile from the attacker. Proportional Navigation guidance laws are selected for the attacking and defending missiles;while constraints are held on the target vehicle to prevent instantaneous changes in velocity. This article provides an introduction to event-triggered coordination for multi-agent average consensus. We provide a comprehensive account of the motivations behind the use of event-triggered strategies for consensus, the methods for algorithm synthesis, the technical challenges involved in establishing desirable properties of the resulting implementations, and their applications in distributed control. We pay special attention to the assumptions on the capabilities of the network agents and the resulting features of the algorithm execution, including the interconnection topology, the evaluation of triggers, and the role of imperfect information. The issues raised in our discussion transcend the specific consensus problem and are indeed characteristic of cooperative algorithms for networked systems that solve other coordination tasks. As our discussion progresses, we make these connections clear, highlighting general challenges and tools to address them widespread in the event-triggered control of networked systems. Non-linear feature extraction from HRV signal for mortality prediction of ICU cardiovascular patient

Intensive care unit (ICU) patients are at risk of in-ICU morbidities and mortality, making specific systems for identifying at-risk patients a necessity for improving clinical care. This study presents a new method for predicting in-hospital mortality using heart rate variability (HRV) collected from the times of a patients ICU stay. In this paper, a HRV time series processing based method is proposed for mortality prediction of ICU cardiovascular patients. HRV signals were obtained measuring R-R time intervals. A novel method, named return map, is then developed that reveals useful information from the HRV time series. This study also proposed several features that can be extracted from the return map, including the angle between two vectors, the area of triangles formed by successive points, shortest distance to 45° line and their various combinations. Finally, a thresholding technique is proposed to extract the risk period and to predict mortality. The data used to evaluate the proposed algorithm obtained from 80 cardiovascular ICU patients, from the first 48 h of the first ICU stay of 40 males and 40 females. This study showed that the angle feature has on average a sensitivity of 87.5% (with 12 false alarms), the area feature has on average a sensitivity of 89.58% (with 10 false alarms), the shortest distance feature has on average a sensitivity of 85.42% (with 14 false alarms) and, finally, the combined feature has on average a sensitivity of 92.71% (with seven false alarms). The results showed that the last half an hour before the patients death is very informative for diagnosing the patients condition and to save his/her life. These results confirm that it is possible to predict mortality based on the features introduced in this paper, relying on the variations of the HRV dynamic characteristics. © 2016 Taylor & Francis.

This paper is concerned with the distributed consensus problem of multiple underactuated surface vessels, where the number of the vehicles actuators is fewer than the vehicles degrees of freedom. To cope with the coupling of unactuated and actuated states, a state transformation is proposed to change the format of the system to a cascade nonlinear system, and an appropriate switching controller is designed based on the stability properties of cascade systems to make the vehicles to reach a consensus. To illustrate the performance of the proposed approach, simulation results are provided.

In this paper, we present the dynamical equations of a nonlinear adaptive natural oscillator (NANO) in order to exploit the natural dynamics in robotic systems. The presented oscillator tries to minimize an energy-based cost function by adapting the shape and frequency of the reference trajectory. Stability, convergence, and optimality of this oscillator are guaranteed analytically. Moreover, the performance of this oscillator is investigated by applying it to three different types of robotic models;i.e., the pendulum, the adaptive-toy, and the hopper-leg.

Distributed clock synchronization with intermittent communication is addressed in this paper. An event-triggered control and communication approach is presented in order to determine in a decentralized way the time instants at which each agent transmits information. The decentralized event-triggered synchronization of clocks is formulated as a single integrator consensus problem in the particular case and as double integrator consensus problem in the general case. The main contribution of this paper, besides the implementation of event-triggered mechanisms, is the feature that the virtual clocks are continuous. This is an important property because of the processes associated to each local clock, where missing deadlines or performing time dependent tasks more than once needs to be avoided.
