Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection task plays the key role in reliable and safety-critical applications. Existing researches mainly devote to designing or training the powerful score function but overlook investigating the decision rule based on the proposed score function. Different from previous work, this paper aims to design a decision rule with rigorous theoretical guarantee and well empirical performance. Specifically, we provide a new insight for the OOD detection task from a hypothesis testing perspective and propose a novel generalized Benjamini Hochberg (g-BH) procedure with empirical p-values to solve the testing problem. Theoretically, the g-BH procedure controls false discovery rate (FDR) at pre-specified level. Furthermore, we derive an upper bound of the expectation of false positive rate (FPR) for the g-BH procedure based on the tailed generalized Gaussian distribution family, indicating that the FPR of g-BH procedure converges to zero in probability. Finally, the extensive experimental results verify the superiority of g-BH procedure over the traditional threshold-based decision rule on several OOD detection benchmarks. The rising threat of backdoor poisoning attacks (BPAs) on Deep Neural networks (DNNs) has become a significant concern in recent years. In such attacks, the adversaries strategically target a specific class and generate a poisoned training set. The neural network (NN), well-trained on the poisoned training set, is able to predict any input with the trigger pattern as the targeted label, while maintaining accurate outputs for clean inputs. However, why the BPAs work remains less explored. To fill this gap, we employ a dirty-label attack and conduct a detailed analysis of BPAs in a two-layer convolutional neural network. We provide theoretical insights and results on the effectiveness of BPAs. Our experimental results on two real-world datasets validate our theoretical findings. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

In the realm of medical image analysis, self-supervised learning (SSL) techniques have emerged to alleviate labeling demands, while still facing the challenge of training data scarcity owing to escalating resource requirements and privacy constraints. Numerous efforts employ generative models to generate high-fidelity, unlabeled 3D volumes across diverse modalities and anatomical regions. However, the intricate and indistinguishable anatomical structures within the abdomen pose a unique challenge to abdominal CT volume generation compared to other anatomical regions. To address the overlooked challenge, we introduce the Locality-Aware Diffusion (Lad), a novel method tailored for exquisite 3D abdominal CT volume generation. We design a locality loss to refine crucial anatomical regions and devise a condition extractor to integrate abdominal priori into generation, thereby enabling the generation of large quantities of high-quality abdominal CT volumes essential for SSL tasks without the need for additional data such as labels or radiology reports. Volumes generated through our method demonstrate remarkable fidelity in reproducing abdominal structures, achieving a decrease in FID score from 0.0034 to 0.0002 on AbdomenCT-1K dataset, closely mirroring authentic data and surpassing current methods. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in self-supervised organ segmentation tasks, resulting in an improvement in mean Dice scores on two abdominal datasets effectively. These results underscore the potential of synthetic data to advance self-supervised learning in medical image analysis. © 2024 ACM.

Recently, advancements in artificial intelligence technology have greatly influenced the field of education, particularly in the area of intelligent homework assistance. However, current approaches are primarily designed for procedural and logical tasks and often lack comprehension abilities. This limitation is particularly evident when it comes to multi-hop and continuous tasks. To address this challenge, the integration of Large Language Model (LLM) has significantly enhanced the capability of AI systems to handle multi-hop and highly interconnected inputs. In this study, we focus on the learning needs of students in Acting Department, specifically their study of movies and the significance of classic movie videos in their learning process. However, assessing deep comprehension of classic movies poses its own challenges. To overcome these challenges, we develop a quiz system utilizing Knowledge Graphs (KG) and LLM to facilitate a deeper understanding of classic films. The generation of video quiz pairs is achieved through the use of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technology, which leverages movie subtitles for question generation. For answering these questions, we employ techniques KG and LLM to process questions and retrieve corresponding answers. The proposed method achieves good performance in Deep Video Understanding (DVU) task of NIST TRECVID, demonstrating its effectiveness. © 2023 IEEE.

The effective utilization of data through Deep Neural networks (DNNs) has profoundly influenced various aspects of society. The growing demand for high-quality, particularly personalized, data has spurred research efforts to prevent data leakage and protect privacy in recent years. Early privacy-preserving methods primarily relied on instance-wise modifications, such as erasing or obfuscating essential features for de-identification. However, this approach highlights an inherent trade-off: minimal modification offers insufficient privacy protection, while excessive modification significantly degrades task performance. In this paper, we propose a novel Recombining for Obfuscation (FRO) approach to address this trade-off. Unlike existing methods that generate one anonymized instance by perturbing the original data on a one-to-one basis, our FRO approach generates an anonymized instance by reassembling mixed id-related features from multiple original data sources on a many-in-one basis. Instead of introducing additional noise for de-identification, our approach leverages the existing non-polluted features from other instances to anonymize data. Extensive experiments on identity identification tasks demonstrate that FRO outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods, not only in utility performance but also in visual anonymization. Lip-reading is to utilize the visual information of the speaker's lip movements to recognize words and sentences. Existing event-based lip-reading solutions integrate different frame rate branches to learn spatio-temporal features of varying granularities. However, aggregating events into event frames inevitably leads to the loss of fine-grained temporal information within frames. To remedy this drawback, we propose a novel framework termed Multi-view Temporal Granularity aligned Aggregation (MTGA). Specifically, we first present a novel event representation method, namely time-segmented voxel graph list, where the most significant local voxels are temporally connected into a graph list. Then we design a spatio-temporal fusion module based on temporal granularity alignment, where the global spatial features extracted from event frames, together with the local relative spatial and temporal features contained in voxel graph list are effectively aligned and integrated. Finally, we design a temporal aggregation module that incorporates positional encoding, which enables the capture of local absolute spatial and global temporal information. Mutual Retinex: Combining Transformer and CNN for Image Enhancement

Images captured in low-light or underwater environments are often accompanied by significant degradation, which can negatively impact the quality and performance of downstream tasks. While convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and Transformer architectures have made significant progress in computer vision tasks, there are few efforts to harmonize them into a more concise framework for enhancing such images. To this end, this study proposes to aggregate the individual capability of self-attention (SA) and CNNs for accurate perturbation removal while preserving background contents. Based on this, we carry forward a Retinex-based framework, dubbed as Mutual Retinex, where a two-branch structure is designed to characterize the specific knowledge of reflectance and illumination components while removing the perturbation. To maximize its potential, Mutual Retinex is equipped with a new mutual learning mechanism, involving an elaborately designed mutual representation module (MRM). In MRM, the complementary information between reflectance and illumination components are encoded and used to refine each other. Through the complementary learning via the mutual representation, the enhanced results generated by our model exhibit superior color consistency and naturalness. Extensive experiments have shown the significant superiority of our mutual learning based method over thirteen competitors on the low-light task and ten methods on the underwater image enhancement task. In particular, our proposed Mutual Retinex respectively surpasses the state-of-the-art method MIRNet-v2 by 0.90 dB and 2.46 dB in PSNR on the LOL 1000 and FIVEK datasets, while with only 19.8% model parameters. © 2017 IEEE.

Heterogeneous graph neural networks (HGNNs) have recently demonstrated significant advantages of capturing powerful structural and semantic information in heterogeneous graphs. Different from homogeneous graph neural networks directly aggregating information based on neighbors, HGNNs aggregate information based on complex metapaths. ReRAM-based processing-in-memory (PIM) architecture can reduce data movement and compute matrix-vector multiplication (MVM) in analog. It can be well used to accelerate HGNNs. However, the complex metapath-based aggregation of HGNNs makes it challenging to efficiently utilize the parallelism of ReRAM and vertices data reuse. To this end, we propose ChainPIM, the first ReRAM-based processing-in-memory accelerator for HGNNs featuring high computing parallelism and vertices data reuse. Specifically, we introduce R-Chain, which is based on a chain structure to build related metapath instances together. We can efficiently reuse vertices through R-Chain and process different R-Chains in parallel. Then, we further design an efficient storage format for storing R-Chains, which reduces a lot of repeated vertices storage. Finally, a specialized ReRAM-based architecture is developed to pipeline different types of aggregations in HGNNs, fully exploiting the huge potential of multi-level parallelism in HGNNs. Our experiments show that ChainPIM achieves an average memory space reduction of 47.86% and performance improvement by 128.29× compared to NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPU. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Fatigue is a critical factor contributing to accidents in industries such as safety monitoring and engineering construction. Fatigue exhibits dynamic complexity and non-stationary characteristics, so there are many intermediate states of short-term variation between alert and fatigue. Capturing and learning the signs of these intermediate states is essential for accurate fatigue assessment. However, current fatigue detection methods primarily rely on coarse-grained labels, typically spanning minutes to hours, and commonly treat alert and fatigue as two distinctly separate distributions, overlooking the expression of intermediate states and oversimplifying the rich distribution information of fatigue types and levels, thereby limiting detection effectiveness. To address these, this paper explores a refined representation of fatigue in terms of three dimensions: time, type, and level, and proposes a MultiDimensional Fine-Grained Modeling for Fatigue Detection (MDFG). This introduces the SmallLoss to extract trustworthy samples, utilizes clustering to identify diverse subtypes under alert and fatigued states, and establishes base class sets in each state. Subsequently, a complete base class set containing intermediate state bases is constructed using the base class synthesis method, which achieves the expression of intermediate fatigue states from absence to presence. Finally, fatigue levels are quantified based on the matching between samples and the complete base class set. Moreover, to cope with the complex variability of fatigue states, MDFG employs meta-learning for training. MDFG achieves an Average accuracy improvement of 10.0% and 12.1% on two real datasets compared to methods that do not consider fine-grained information.
