Punicalagin has been demonstrated to exhibit anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties,but whether and how it could impact hypercholesterolemia remains not fully *** aim of this study was to investigate the influence of punicalagin on hypercholesterolemia in mice and its related *** 6 weeks'intervention,punicalagin significantly reduced serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)levels in mice fed a high-fat high-cholesterol(HFHC)***,punicalagin supplementation lowered hepatic cholesterol level,which corresponded to the down-regulation of cholesterol synthesis genes(Fdps,Cyp51)and up-regulated bile acid synthesis genes(Cyp7a1,Cyp27a1).In addition,bile acid reabsorption was retarded in punicalagin-fed mice through down-regulating ileal apical sodium-dependent BA transporter(ASBT).Furthermore,intestinal farnesoid X receptor(FXR)-fibroblast growth factor 15(Fgf15)pathway was inhibited while hepatic FXR-small heterodimeric partner(SHP)pathway was activated in punicalagin *** analysis and targeted metabolomics showed that punicalagin decreased the abundance of bile-salt hydrolase(BSH)-producing bacteria(Clostridiaceae and Bifidobacteriaceae)and the ratio of primary BAs to secondary *** conclusion,the cholesterol-lowering effect of punicalagin partly through down-regulating cholesterol synthesis and increasing cholesterol catabolism,which could be achieved by regulating gut microbiota,altering bile acid composition and modulating FXR signaling *** findings indicate the potential application of punicalagin-related products as an alternative strategy for hypercholesterolemia prevention and mitigation.

We use pump-probe, spin- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) with a 10.7 eV laser accessible up to the Brillouin zone edge, and reveal the entire band structure around the Fermi level, including the unoccupied side, for the elemental bismuth (Bi) with the spin-polarized surface states. Our data identify Bi as in a strong topological insulator phase (Z2=1) against the prediction of most band calculations. We unveil that the unoccupied topological surface states possess spin-polarized saddle points yielding the van Hove singularity. The unique feature provides an excellent platform for the future development of optospintronics.

In this work,we synthesized MoS_(2)catalyst via one-step hydrothermal method,and systematically investigated the catalytic effect of MoS_(2)on the hydrogen storage properties of MgH_(2).The MgH_(2)-5MoS_(2)composite milled for 5 h starts to release hydrogen at 259℃.Furthermore,it can desorb 4.0 wt.%hydrogen within 20 min at 280℃,and absorb 4.5 wt.%hydrogen within 5 min at 200℃.Mo and MoS_(2)coexistedin the ball milled sample,whereas only Mo was kept in the sample after dehydrogenation and rehydrogenation,which greatly weakens theMg-H bonds and facilitates the dissociation of MgH_(2)on the surface of Mo(110).The comparative study show that the formed MgS has nocatalytic effect for MgH_(2).We believed that the evolution and the catalytic mechanism of MoS_(2)will provide the theoretical guidance for theapplication of metal sulfide in hydrogen storage materials.

Photosynthetic organisms have developed various light-harvesting antenna systems to capture light and transfer energy to reaction centers(RCs).Simultaneous utilization of the integral membrane light-harvesting antenna(LH complex) and the extrinsic antenna(chlorosomes) makes the phototrophic bacterium Chloroflexus(Cfx.) aurantiacus an ideal model for studying filamentous anoxygenic phototrophs(FAPs). Here, we determined the structure of a minimal RC–LH photocomplex from Cfx. aurantiacus J-10-fl(CaRC–LH) at 3.05-? resolution. The CaRC–LH binds only to seven LH subunits, which form a crescent-shaped antenna surrounding the movable menaquinone-10(QB)binding site of Ca RC. In this complex with minimal LH units, an extra antenna is required to ensure sufficient light-gathering, providing a clear explanation for the presence of chlorosomes in Cfx. aurantiacus. More importantly, the semicircle of the antenna represents a novel RC–LH assembly pattern. Our structure provides a basis for understanding the existence of chlorosomes in *** and the possible assembly pattern of RC–LH.
