Social assistive robots usually encompass a great compromise between the advanced perception models that one can use and their computing capabilities. The ideal approaches are always oriented towards low power consumption while maintaining a higher order of responsiveness to the surroundings. Therefore, we present in this paper, an improvement of the follow-me system on ASTRO. In detail, we propose the use of Mediapipe SDK for human detection and tracking, when ASTRO is meant to accompany someone that is walking. A study on the new velocity and distance profiles that the robot keeps from the individuals is presented and we have also evaluated how it affects their perception of being safe. The presented results show that our new approach allows the system to achieve real-time performance by becoming ≈ 9.1× faster, smoothing, and keeping a more natural distance from the user. © 2023 IEEE.

Speech emotion recognition(SER)is an important research problem in human-computer interaction *** representation and extraction of features are significant challenges in SER *** the promising results of recent studies,they generally do not leverage progressive fusion techniques for effective feature representation and increasing receptive *** mitigate this problem,this article proposes DeepCNN,which is a fusion of spectral and temporal features of emotional speech by parallelising convolutional neural networks(CNNs)and a convolution layer-based *** parallel CNNs are applied to extract the spectral features(2D-CNN)and temporal features(1D-CNN)representations.A 2D-convolution layer-based transformer module extracts spectro-temporal features and concatenates them with features from parallel *** learnt low-level concatenated features are then applied to a deep framework of convolutional blocks,which retrieves high-level feature representation and subsequently categorises the emotional states using an attention gated recurrent unit and classification *** fusion technique results in a deeper hierarchical feature representation at a lower computational cost while simultaneously expanding the filter depth and reducing the feature *** Berlin Database of Emotional Speech(EMO-BD)and Interactive Emotional Dyadic Motion Capture(IEMOCAP)datasets are used in experiments to recognise distinct speech *** efficient spectral and temporal feature representation,the proposed SER model achieves 94.2%accuracy for different emotions on the EMO-BD and 81.1%accuracy on the IEMOCAP dataset *** proposed SER system,DeepCNN,outperforms the baseline SER systems in terms of emotion recognition accuracy on the EMO-BD and IEMOCAP datasets.

To model the periodicity of beats, state-of-the-art beat tracking systems use 'post-processing trackers' (PPTs) that rely on several empirically determined global assumptions for tempo transition, which work well for music with a steady tempo. For expressive classical music, however, these assumptions can be too rigid. With two large datasets of Western classical piano music, namely the Aligned Scores and Performances (ASAP) dataset and a dataset of Chopin's Mazurkas (Maz-5), we report on experiments showing the failure of existing PPTs to cope with local tempo changes, thus calling for new methods. In this paper, we propose a new local periodicity-based PPT, called predominant local pulse-based dynamic programming (PLPDP) tracking, that allows for more flexible tempo transitions. Specifically, the new PPT incorporates a method called 'predominant local pulses' (PLP) in combination with a dynamic programming (DP) component to jointly consider the locally detected periodicity and beat activation strength at each time instant. Accordingly, PLPDP accounts for the local periodicity, rather than relying on a global tempo assumption. Compared to existing PPTs, PLPDP particularly enhances the recall values at the cost of a lower precision, resulting in an overall improvement of F1-score for beat tracking in ASAP (from 0.473 to 0.493) and Maz-5 (from 0.595 to 0.838). © 2014 IEEE.

Defects in gastric progenitor cell differentiation are associated with various gastric disorders, including atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and gastric cancer. However, the mechanisms underlying the multilineage differentiation of gastric progenitor cells during healthy homeostasis remain poorly understood. Here, using a single-cell RNA sequencing method, Quartz-Seq2, we analyzed the gene expression dynamics of progenitor cell differentiation toward pit cell, neck cell, and parietal cell lineages in healthy adult mouse corpus tissues. Enrichment analysis of pseudotime-dependent genes and a gastric organoid assay revealed that EGFR-ERK signaling promotes pit cell differentiation, whereas NF-κB signaling maintains gastric progenitor cells in an undifferentiated state. In addition, pharmacological inhibition of EGFR in vivo resulted in a decreased number of pit cells. Although activation of EGFR signaling in gastric progenitor cells has been suggested as one of the major inducers of gastric cancers, our findings unexpectedly identified that EGFR signaling exerts a differentiation-promoting function, not a mitogenic function, in normal gastric homeostasis.

The rapid advancement in mobile broadband technology has evolved wireless infrastructure influencing internet-of-things (IoTs). This evolution has made mobile IoTs (mIoTs) as centre of attention due to its potential of providing seamless connectivity to enable intelligent transportation systems with huge data demands of vehicular users. To address the ever-escalating data demands of vehicular mobile users, vehicular edge computing (VEC) and moving small cells (mSCs) play a pivotal role. mSCs together with VEC are capable to provide improved service quality for mIoTs. However, incorporating the mSCs in vehicles for mIoTs presents challenges while assigning the resources in mIoT-mSC network. This is due to the existence of time varying interference among mSCs. This work explores the distributed resource assignment mechanism for RSU assisted mIoT-mSC network formed in vehicular environment. In the proposed work, location prediction of city buses deployed with mSCs is done using federated learning (FL) which is subsequently utilized for efficient assignment of resources in mIoT-mSC network. Numerical results are provided to validate the proposed resource assignment mechanism. © 2024 IEEE.

WSNs are applied in many disciplines where certain conditions require the ability to adapt to network sink mobility and changes in the dynamics of the area coverage. To meet these needs, it is necessary to develop integrated systems where the ''terrestrial' systems and the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)' collect data from sensors efficiently. Planning of UAV trajectories is another challenging issue if many WSN nodes are randomly deployed. This challenge has a big impact on the overall effectiveness of the system. This paper presents a novel approach for reducing the traveled distance of unscrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) to improve the data collection efficiency in WSNs with poor node density. In this paper, we consider an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which serves multiple legitimate ground users with frequency division multiple access (FDMA) approach in the presence of a potential eavesdropper (EV) with uncertain location information. We also assume that UAV must also avoid flying over the no-fly-zone (NFZ). We aim to maximize the secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) by the robust joint design of the rotary-wing UAV three dimensional (3D) trajectory, bandwidth allocation, and transmit power. However, the optimization problem becomes challenging to solve optimally due to the non-convexity of the problem and the imperfect location information of the EV. We develop an efficient iterative algorithm to obtain its high-quality suboptimal solution. The numerical results indicate that our proposed joint optimization algorithm outperforms the benchmark schemes, resulting in significant enhancement of the energy efficiency of the system. © 2023 IEEE.

We have investigated the impact of H-impurity in AlO_x-passivated ultrathin ALD-InO_x bottom-gate FETs on positive bias stress (PBS) behavior. While the devices fabricated on SiO₂ with N₂ annealing show better current characteristics and long-term stress stability, the devices fabricated on the ALD-deposited AlO_x dielectric show abnormal negative-V_th shift and change of stability behavior with N₂ annealing. These PBS instabilities in ultrathin InO_x, FET are attributed to the H-incorporation from the gate dielectric. © 2025 IEEE.

Exceptional points(EPs)have been extensively explored in mechanical,acoustic,plasmonic,and photonic ***,little is known about the role of EPs in tailoring the dynamic tunability of optical devices.A specific type of EPs known as chiral EPs has recently attracted much attention for controlling the flow of light and for building sensors with better responsivity.A recently demonstrated route to chiral EPs via lithographically defined symmetric Mie scatterers on the rim of resonators has not only provided the much-needed mechanical stability for studying chiral EPs,but also helped reduce losses originating from nanofabrication imperfections,facilitating the in-situ study of chiral EPs and their contribution to the dynamics and tunability of ***,we use asymmetric Mie scatterers to break the rotational symmetry of a microresonator,to demonstrate deterministic thermal tuning across a chiral EP,and to demonstrate EP-mediated chiral optical nonlinear response and efficient electro-optic *** results indicate asymmetric electro-optic modulation with up to 17 dB contrast at GHz and CMOS-compatible voltage *** wafer-scale nano-manufacturing of chiral electro-optic modulators and the chiral EP-tailored tunning may facilitate new micro-resonator functionalities in quantum information processing,electromagnetic wave control,and optical interconnects.
