Heat-induced stress impacts various physiological parameters in the body. Elevated temperature can cause tachycardia (an increase in heart rate), as the body attempts to dissipate heat through vasodilation, leading to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. In addition, the hypothalamus triggers sweating in order to regulate body temperature; that can culminate in fluid and electrolyte loss, which could impact metabolic processes and blood pressure. A prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and other ailments including organ damage and systemic dysfunction. Existing electroencephalography (EEG)-based heat-induced stress detection often considers the entire EEG frequency range (delta to gamma), concealing redundant and lossy information and increasing the likelihood of false detection rates. To address the limitations of conventional handcrafted feature engineering approaches in heat stress detection, this paper introduces MAESTRO, a novel model comprising two blocks: Convolutional and Multi-head Attention. The Convolutional block extracts precise information from individual EEG frequency bands, while the Multi-head Attention block enhances feature representation through attention mechanism. Finally, two dense layers are employed to classify heat stress into three classes: Acute, Chronic, and Control. The proposed framework undergoes validation using EEG data obtained from 40 rodents in a simulated laboratory environment. The outcomes illustrate the viability of the method in classifying heat-induced stress, yielding remarkable results for overall accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score of 98.88 %, 98.54 %, 98. 67 %, and 98.60 %, respectively.

This paper proposes a machine vision solution for classification of cocoa beans using structural characteristics like shape and size of the cocoa beans extracted from images using classic machine learning techniques. The features are extracted from images through a chain of image processing *** traditional machine learning techniques (KNN, SVM, Decision Tree and Random Forest) are employed to classify the cocoa beans in four classes e.g. large, medium, small and rejected. Comparative studies among different techniques are also performed. Prior to train the model, extracted features are optimized by two optimization techniques-Univariate Selection and Feature Importance. Trained models are evaluated using stratified K-fold cross validation and finally mean cross validation scores are calculated for performance analysis. The experimental results show that the Random Forest Classifier provides highest accuracy score of 0.75. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents a new spatial-based regularization technique to efficiently reconstruct unknown scatterers using microwave imaging. In general, a constant regularization parameter is used to obtain an inverse solution. However, the major drawback of using this parameter is that it produces ghost images, often known as artifacts. To overcome this problem, a spatially varying regularization parameter is developed in this work. The main contribution of this approach is that it removes unwanted artifacts and provides uniform reconstruction over the entire investigation domain. This results in improved reconstruction quality. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated using several numerical examples utilizing both synthetic and experimental data. In all the cases, the proposed method is able to provide an optimal solution free of speckle artifacts. Consequently, better reconstruction results are obtained compared to a standard Tikhonov method with constant regularization parameter.

Social phishers cleverly devise stringent methods to secretly obtain login_names and passwords by forming seemingly friendly connections through microblogs and various social media platforms. They adapt these techniques to gain financial benefits. The 2024 APWG latest report shows that Cyber-Phishing attacks are increasing using different methods like fake websites, fake email links, and social media content. Despite efforts to defend against these attacks, there are still problems, especially with compromised microblogs in social network environments (SNEs). This puts confidential information at risk. It's crucial to stop Cyber-Phishing attacks on SNEs, and this paper looks at different ways to detect and prevent Social Cyber-Phishing specifically for these environments.

The increasing data resources from multiple sensors challenges the researchers in developing a standard job submission framework that can be readily used over an HPC cluster and cloud environment. Developing a framework will be of great use to small computing labs, where the availability of HPC resources is limited. In addition to this, the issues such as network failure, software dependencies, etc. also hinder the nature and processing duration of the simulations. Resolving any such system-centric factor is out of the scope in many applications. In this regard, this article addresses the need for developing a problem-solving framework that can integrate the available HPC and cloud resources. Furthermore, the impact happens due to the network failure, non-availability of remote HPC clusters and delay in deriving the critical results that can be reduced to a major extent. © 2020 IEEE.

Typically verification of arithmetic units is based on simulation/emulation with random / coverage models enabled constrained test vectors or formal techniques. Our PositGen generates coverage models based Posit domain vectors, enabling a native PositIn and PositOut verification paradigm for Posit units covering corner and special cases. It generates vectors for Add, Sub, Mul, Fused Multiply Add/Sub (FMA/S), Div., Sq. Root and data conversion. As a case study, test vectors have been generated for Posit (16, 1) and (32, 2) and adopted for verifying Posit Add/Sub, FMA/S, Div. and Sq. root units with functional simulation. Further, Posit units have been verified with randomly generated vectors (random integers plugged to regime, exponent, fraction parts of (16, 1), (32, 2)). Besides, FPGen and Berkeley Test Float vectors for IEEE-754 single precision (SP) floating point arithmetic has been mapped to Posit (16,1) and (32, 2) and adopted as another kind of vectors. Code coverage analysis has been done for all the above three approaches. SoftPosit library is the reference for outputs. Irrespective of type of operations, PositGen provides wider coverage on Focused Expression Coverage (FEC) conditions and expressions as compared to Random models and IEEE-754 to Posit convert vector based approaches.

Quantum self-interference enables the counterfactual transmission of information, whereby the transmitted bits involve no particles traveling through the channel. In this work, we show how counterfactuality can be realized even when the self-interference is replaced by interference between identical particles. Interestingly, the facet of indistinguishability called forth here is associated with first-order coherence, and is different from the usual notion of indistinguishability associated with the (anti-)commutation relations of mode operators. From an experimental perspective, the simplest implementation of the proposed idea can be realized by slight modifications to existing protocols for differential-phase-shift quantum key distribution or interaction-free measurement. © 2022, CC BY.

Matching is an essential operation towards automated registration of digital images. Registration of images is basically done either by studying the characteristics of the region surrounding the object of interest or by considering image morphological features. Many automated matching algorithms have been proposed and evaluated in the literature. However, previous studies on automated matching have either used a small number of benchmarks images in their evaluation, been directed at microscopy and not digital cameras, or have been based on ad hoc evaluation criteria. In this paper, we are presenting an image independent automated algorithm for pixel-to-pixel matching between two digital images obtained from two different microscope imaging devices. Here, SURF feature points and Euclidean distance measures are used for identifying key matching member index (KM2I). We have extensively tested our algorithm on a macro set of 1,69,000 digital images obtained from 250 pap smear samples. Experimental results prove that the proposed algorithm performs better for digital photography. © 2020 IEEE.

The increasing demand for the realization of global-scale quantum communication services necessitates critical investigation for a practical quantum secure communication network that relies on full-time all-location coverage. In this direction, the non-terrestrial quantum key distribution is expected to play an important role in providing agility, maneuverability, relay link, on-demand network, and last-mile coverage. In this work, we have summarized the research and development that has happened until now in the domain of quantum communication using non-terrestrial platforms with a specific focus on the associated challenges and the relevant models. Further, to extend the analysis beyond the existing know-how, a hybrid model involving the features of Vasylyev et al.’s model and Liorni et al.’s model is introduced here. The hybrid model entails us adapting a spherical beam to an elliptic beam approximation and effectively capturing the characteristics of transmittance in densely humid weather conditions and at low altitudes. Further, to understand the potential impact of the weather conditions of a region on atmospheric attenuation, as an example the average monthly visibility of Pune city was analyzed for the years 2021 and 2022. In addition, a simulation of a generic model is performed using a software-defined network paradigm where quantum teleportation is simulated between distant parties using a swarm of drones in NetSquid. © 2023, CC BY.

Performance of instruction cache has become an important factor in enhancing the overall performance of a system. This paper describes a novel method to evaluate the performance of a level-1 instruction (L1i) cache designed for single-core, out-of-order (OoO) RISC-V superscalar processor. A synthesizable high-level Bluespec System-Verilog (BSV) based framework, consisting of front-end model of an OoO superscalar RISC-V processor, TLB model and lower-level memory, is used to evaluate a virtually-indexed-physically-tagged (VIPT), nonblocking, pipelined, wide fetch-group L1i-cache. The framework works in various modes, depending on the bandwidth and latency across various interfaces of processor, TLB, L1i-cache and lower-level memory. It allows variation in terms of variable latency of lower-level of memory and variable demand for instructions, simulating varying processor execution rates. The performance of the cache was evaluated through parameters such as hit-rate, MPKI, bus-traffic and hardware complexity. The objective of the paper was to evaluate and analyze different cache optimizations, viz. cache replacement policies, victim-cache buffer size/replacement policies and prefetch-unit enablement, on a baseline L1i-cache configuration. The analysis yielded in an effective L1i-cache configuration after running standard workload programs and benchmarks in single-core environment. The framework and L1i-cache were validated on Xilinx UltraScale+ VCU118 board.
