With the rapid proliferation of vehicle availability and usage in recent years, finding a vacant car parking space is becoming more and more difficult, resulting in a number of practical conflicts. Parking problems are becoming ubiquitous and ever growing at an alarming rate in every major city. Lot of research and development is being done all over the world to implement better and smarter parking management mechanisms. Widespread use of wireless technologies paired with the recent advances in wireless applications for parking, manifests that digital data dissemination could be the key to solve emerging parking problems. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology has attracted increased attention and are rapidly emerging due to their enormous application potential in diverse fields. This buoyant field is expected to provide an efficient and cost-effective solution to the effluent car parking problems. This paper proposes a Smart Parking (SPARK) Management System based on wireless sensor network technology which provides advanced features like remote parking monitoring, automated guidance, and parking reservation mechanism. The paper describes the overall system architecture of SPARK from hardware to software implementation in the view point of sensor networks. We implemented a full-fledged prototype system for parking management to realize the design functionalities and features mentioned. Our preliminary test results show that the performance of this WSN based system can effectively satisfy the needs and requirements of existing parking hassles thereby minimizing the time consumed to find vacant parking lot, real-time information rendering, and smart reservation mechanisms.

Our proposed solution is a Linux bonding approach to vertical handoff for heterogeneous networks. Currently, there are approaches of Linux bonding implementation for wired & wireless interfaces. The Linux bonding provides methods to aggregate multiple wired or wireless interfaces to support fault-tolerance and throughput improvement. The existing interface bonding allows the aggregation of homogeneous wired or wireless interfaces. There is no heterogeneity available in bonding of various interfaces together, such as Ethernet, WLAN etc. We are particularly interested in using the Linux bonding to bond multiple wireless and wired interfaces in order to achieve faster vertical handoff by providing heterogeneity. In this paper, we propose a daemon that accomplishes the handoff process between various radio interfaces both wired & wireless supporting IP. This daemon runs at the user level of the Linux Operating System and the results show that the handoff is significantly faster for all applications. © 2011 IEEE.

Recent years witnessed a huge demand of personalization in the e-learning system tailoring the learning services based on the characteristics of individual learners. Learner's knowledge, style of learning, and individual preferences play a vital role in offering personalized learning services. Existing learning systems investigated various data mining methods in order to cluster students based on their learning style. These systems cannot provide accurate results using smaller data sets in building models that can generate new clusters based on the historical data. The aim of this paper is to propose a Recommendation system to assist the instructor in identifying the groups of learners who have similar learning styles and provide specialized advices to these clusters of learners. This paper focuses on analyzing the learning styles identified by Felder-Silverman learning style model (FSLSM).

Reverse time migration (RTM) is a widely used method in seismic imaging, particularly in situations where other migration methods may not be effective, such as in complex geologies. However, traditional RTM images are affected by a strong low wavenumber noise, which tends to appear mainly at shallow depths and above strong reflectors and can mask migrated structures, making it difficult to interpret the resulting image. To reduce this noise, Laplacian filtering is often used, which adjusts the filtering parameters to preserve the characteristics of useful better signals while still effectively removing low-wavenumber noise. In this work, an alternative approach is proposed, which utilizes deep learning. Here, a residual neural network is trained on a dataset of input-output pairs to replicate the functionality of a modified Laplacian filter. This approach results in outcomes that are similar or potentially better than the conventional method. © 2023 84th EAGE Annual Conference and Exhibition. All rights reserved.

This paper describes the implementation of a dictation system for Malayalam office documents in OpenOffice Writer. Dictation system is built using state-of-the-art large vocabulary continuous speech recognition system for the Malayalam language. This system supports a vocabulary of 5000 most commonly used office domain words and is employed with a vocabulary updating facility to handle out-of-vocabulary words. The system is based on Hidden Markov Model (HMM), trained with huge (25 hours) amount of data. The training data is collected in room environment, ensuring the speaker variance and the phonetic richness. A hybrid model which integrates the rule based method with statistical method is used to handle the pronunciation variations for the creation of the pronunciation dictionary. The system is first of its kind which simplifies the tedious task of typing in Malayalam. Apart from dictating office documents with 75 ±5 % accuracy, the system is equipped with a facility of suggestion generation by which the user will be provided with alternate words for mis-recognized words. The system also supports some basic voice command operations for file operations like open, save, close etc. This system has an option to adapt to the user's voice which will improve the recognition accuracy by 2-5%. The system is successfully implemented in OpenOffice Writer and tested. © 2012 ACM.

This paper describes the development of state-of-the-art large vocabulary continuous speech recognition (LVCSR) system for the Malayalam language with an application for visually challenged. For an LVCSR, building a high accurate acoustic models and large-scale language models are the challenging task. Speech corpus for training the system is collected from 80 native speakers in room environment ensuring the speaker variance. Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) method is used as a front-end to extract acoustic features from the input signal. Acoustic model is built on 30 hours of speech data based on Hidden Markov Model (HMM). A hybrid model, integrating rule based and statistical method is used to handle pronunciation variations in the dictionary. The best configuration of the system achieved word accuracy of 75% in average. Accuracy of the system is further increased up to 80% in average, by implementing speaker adaptation technique. The developed system is integrated to OpenOffice Writer together with TTS for making it user friendly editor for visually challenged people. © 2012 IEEE.

Implementation of Electronic Health Record (EHR) has become essential towards delivery of standardized healthcare services, particularly in developing nations. Legacy hospital management systems developed earlier lack compliance to EHR guidelines and required standards. In this paper, we focus on a specific aspect of EHR, the Continuity of Care Document (CCD), which is a standard format used for ubiquitous migration of patient information and medical records across hospital management systems. We discuss the challenges involved in implementation of CCD for legacy systems and present case studies on such a system with a view to understand the gap and effort required in such an endeavour. We also introduce an SDK and web API for assisting organizations to easily extending the existing Hospital Information Systems to generate CCD. This would be useful for developers of healthcare solutions in understanding and practically implementing the same. © 2017 ACM.

Grid computing is often implemented by relying on the concept of sharing of available resources, in order to improve economies of scale and utilization. However, after the advent of Cloud computing, the adoption of Grid computing has been rather slow, and people wonder if it is still relevant, and whether Grid computing truly matters. In a developing country like India where computer, smart phone and internet penetration is still low compared to richer nations, Grid computing can make a huge difference in the adoption of scientific computing, by making niche resources available to the researchers. Grid computing provides a framework to bridge the gap between what the researchers want and what they currently have. Grid aggregates available resources through efficient security mechanisms, meta-scheduling capabilities, and file transfer methodologies among others, and offers an unprecedented infrastructure for solving grand challenge problems. Grid computing is here to stay, though it may not become as common as Cloud computing, since it targets a comparatively niche set of users. It is also felt that the proponents of Grid computing need to come up with new ideas and paradigms to improve the relevance of the grid in the changed scenario of computing. © 2020 IEEE.

Face recognition is a method to recognize people from image and video sources. It can be used for several applications by law enforcement agencies such as surveillance systems and person authentications. Multi-person face recognition is the task of identifying multiple people approaching camera view at same time. Performing real-time and accurate multiple person face recognition is highly challenging due to the uncontrolled face poses, illuminations and expressions. Due to these factors of unconstrained environment, the accuracy gets degraded across video frames. In this paper, we propose improved face recognition framework for multiple people in unconstrained movement/walking towards camera which is implemented on the NVDIA graphics processing unit (GPU)-enabled computer systems. We propose the use of a face tracker to save the GPU computational power and also to increase the overall accuracy of the system. The idea is to do the detection of the faces once through face detector model and subsequently use the face tracker for further frames until the face disappears from camera view. We do combined the use of this tracked faces information along with a face recognition model over same faces. This has achieved face recognition rate improvements on videos of people walking across camera. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
